A programming tool or software development tool is a computer program that software developers use to create, debug, maintain, or otherwise support other programs and applications.
While creating my latest examples for the JavaContest I faced the need to communicate with my code from a program in IRIS to my Java code.
Communication with |CPIPE| worked as READ or WRITE but not both? In the Documentation Named PIPEs are explained rather shortly. "Once open, a pipe acts like an ordinary device." Not so precise. I failed to achieve my expected READ/WRITE as TCP would offer.
Background: We have our own SQL map that predates InterSystems'. A program writes an XML file for each table map class as $system.OBJ.Export would. $system.OBJ.LoadDir loads the XML files into .cls files.
The reason is a long story, but we need to update parameter EXTENTSIZE (only) in existing classes. This does not seem to happen. As a test I used $system.OBJ.Export to make an XML file and edited EXTENTSIZE in the two places it appears in the XML:
During my search for a snapshot of a persistent object, I met a feature that I would like to share as it could be useful in some special situations. My trigger was to have a before- and an after-image during unit testing.
It can sometimes be useful to list or export all of the subclasses that are derived, directly or indirectly, from a given class. In Studio, the Class -> Derived Classes menu option will show such a list, but I'm not aware of a built-in API for programmatically exporting their source code.
Your may not realize it, but your InterSystems Login Account can be used to access a very wide array of InterSystems services to help you learn and use InterSystems IRIS and other InterSystems technologies more effectively. Continue reading to learn more about how to unlock new technical knowledge and tools using your InterSystems Login account. Also - after reading, please participate in the Poll at the bottom, so we can see how this article was useful to you!
Following this GitHub we will see how the FIX protocol can be implemented easily using IRIS and Python.
If you don't have much time focus on the Send a Quote before the Order part near the end, as it will, in a matter of minute, tell you how to send a Quote Request followed by an Order Request and show you the result from the server, and that in no more than five clicks.
This is the first article of a series diving into visualization tools and analysis of time series data. Obviously we are most interested in looking at performance related data we can gather from the Caché family of products. However, as we'll see down the road, we are absolutely not limited to that. For now we are exploring python and the libraries/tools available within that ecosystem.
I find the Data Import Wizard very handy. Has anyone thought of enabling the form in the application where it can be adapted for application user requirement?
Now the Classes/Rutines/DeepSee files will be automatically exported to the working directory after saving or compiling and files will be automatically deleted .

To install isc-dev , you just need to download and import the file isc-dev.xml from last release.
Some ways to import isc-dev .xml file:
Go to Management Portal -> System Explorer -> Classes -> Import and select the XML file.
We are in the age of the multiplatform economy and APIs are the "glue" in this digital scenario. Since they are so important, they are seen by developers as a service or product to be consumed. Therefore, usage experience is a crucial factor for its success.
I was wondering if there is a way to modify the results you get in the code assist in Visual Studio Code. Ideally even per class or package.
For example: the code below is for a custom component of a framework. From all the options listed I'm only interested in my own property "Title" and I don't want to see any %-methods or auto-generated methods like "TitleSet" and "TitleGet".
Recently GitHub introduced topics for the projects.
So you can change your InterSystems related projects introducing the topics to let it be categorized, more visible and searchable. Here is the list of good examples for your projects (some of them are clickable already):
Hello everyone, After some work with IRIS we want to share our ToolBox-4-Iris with you.
What is this about?
The ToolBox-4-Iris is an API for IRIS with a collection of handy and useful tools - features that are not available in IRIS, but greatly simplify application development. To save time and effort on the "typical tools" that every developer needs. This includes additional classes, individual methods or even more efficient macros, which are described in the respective packages.
to connect job on one MUMPS server to other job on other MUMPS server in client-server mode. This tool can connect different MUMPS systems on different OS and with different processors - MiniM, Cache and GT.M in any pairs.
EnsPlus, the Caché Objectscript plugin for Visual Studio, has now been upgraded to support all versions of Visual Studio 2015, including the free Community edition.
As a developer, usually I'm concerned about how my code health is, and how the other coders code can affect to my own work. And I'm quite sure most of us feel very similar.
In our company we use a Static Code Analysis tool to analyze code for different languages to ensure we are writing high quality and easily maintainable code by following a few best practices in terms of code structure and content. And the question was: why should be different for Caché ObjectScript language?
I am using the Java Binding to connect a Java Middleware Application to Cache. Originally I was using a CacheListOfDataTypes (JAVATYPE = "java.lang.List") object to bring data back. I was tasked with encrypting the data using AES and I was using the AESCBCEncrypt function on the List elements (up to 20k characters for each element) to bring it back before concatenating it on the middleware. This almost worked. Like 95% of the characters were being decrypted correctly but some text was coming back garbled. I couldn't understand how this was happening.
In this article, I'm excited to introduce my latest application, Journal File Indexer. The development of this application is rooted in the portal idea DPI-I-270.
In short, this application lets you load and index a log file in a database.
Why?
If you've ever used the log file search function in the management portal, you may have encountered a timeout error or even a blank page. This problem usually occurs when searching a large journal file. Journal File Indexer solves this problem by considerably increasing the speed of searches once the file has been loaded into the database.
Another problem arises during the restoration process. When searching for global entries in a log file to restore old or new values, the management portal doesn't have this specific functionality. A routine must therefore be coded to achieve this. Journal File Indexer comes to the rescue, incorporating a restore function!
This is a quick tutorial how to install and use TFS in Atelier. It is based on my self experience and some tricks that I 've noted.
If you are used to using visual studio maybe you feel that is a bit slow and heavy, but you have the same TFS panel as you have in Visual Studio, so don't need any special "training" to use it
Is it planned that LOAD DATA takes into account several DATE/DATETIME formats with, for example, a parameter indicating the format used in the source data?
example :
LOAD DATA .../...
USING
{
"from": {
"file": {
"dateformat": "DD/MM/YYYY"
}
}
}
Prompted by the words Rick didn't actually say to his pianist in Casablanca, I want to draw attention to the the "Resend" button at the top of the Ensemble Message Viewer.
It's pretty easy to use. Find the message or messages you want to resend, set the associated selection checkbox(es), then click the button.
I just updated Atelier to 1.01.263 and now many of the Atelier icons/images are blurry and the spacing in the Atelier Explorer doesn't look right. This is on Windows 10. Is this a known issue? Are there any settings I need to adjust?
