A programming tool or software development tool is a computer program that software developers use to create, debug, maintain, or otherwise support other programs and applications.
There are many applications for working with HL7 V2 messages, but the tools for working with XML in IRIS Management Portal and Cache Studio are limited.
I'm sure most of you have already familiar with the possibility of using GZIP in InterSystems products. But, the problem is that GZIP working only with one file or stream, and it does not support folders. When you work in Unix systems, there is a possibility how to solve it, using tar compress tool which goes with every Linux system from out of the box. But what to do if you have work on Windows as well, which does not have it.
I am pleased to offer you my new project isc-tar, which will help you do not care about operating system, and deal with tar files anywhere.
Developing the project zpm "install isc-apptools-lockdown" implemented the ability to set the security level not only to lockdown, but also to minimum and normal.
Increasing security settings
You can replace the shared password if the password of the predefined system users has been compromised
In last week's discussion we created a simple graph based on the data input from one file. Now, as we all know, sometimes we have multiple different datafiles to parse and correlate. So this week we are going to load additional perfmon data and learn how to plot that into the same graph.
Since we might want to use our generated graphs in reports or on a webpage, we'll also look into ways to export the generated graphs.
This article introduces using the langchain framework supported by IRIS for implementing a Q&A chatbot, focusing on Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG). It explores how IRIS Vector Search within langchain-iris facilitates storage, retrieval, and semantic search of data, enabling precise and up-to-date responses to user queries. Through seamless integration and processes like indexing and retrieval/generation, RAG applications powered by IRIS enable the capabilities of GenAI systems for InterSystems developers.
I would like to share the history of the project - the ZAPM shell.
As soon as ZPM was implemented, I immediately began to think about how best to use it.
And immediately faced with the desire to move more quickly between namespaces, especially when there are more than 20 of them.
I had to leave the ZPM, move to the desired namespace and re-enter the shell.
I suggested an improvement - a new "namespace" command for easier navigation.
I didn’t wait - I did it myself. And so it went. If you need it, get ready to do it yourself.
Your may not realize it, but your InterSystems Login Account can be used to access a very wide array of InterSystems services to help you learn and use InterSystems IRIS and other InterSystems technologies more effectively. Continue reading to learn more about how to unlock new technical knowledge and tools using your InterSystems Login account. Also - after reading, please participate in the Poll at the bottom, so we can see how this article was useful to you!
Hi! As a developer who was forced to move from Mac to Windows (temporary) I found some things a bit confusing. In this article I would like to talk about some tweaks I made to make my experience smoother. I think it can help not only Mac users who need to use Windows environment (for ex. in VMs), but also can help some Windows users to make some things more convenient. Of course, all the points are subjective, the best setup is one that works for you.
All the tweaks are related to Windows 10 as I don’t have an access to Windows 11 at the moment.
At the global summit in Phoenix, we (Lite Solutions) will be presenting a tool performing static code analysis on ObjectScript source files. You can see it in action at this URL:
I have been walking through this with a few team members and as such I thought there might be others out there who could use it, especially if you work with HL7 & Ensemble/HealthConnect/HealthShare and never venture out past the Interoperability section.
Now the Classes/Rutines/DeepSee files will be automatically exported to the working directory after saving or compiling and files will be automatically deleted .

Installation
To install isc-dev , you just need to download and import the file isc-dev.xml from last release.
Some ways to import isc-dev .xml file:
Go to Management Portal -> System Explorer -> Classes -> Import and select the XML file.
Monitor incremental changes in the database through scheduled tasks, display change trends through charts, set alarm thresholds, and write information to messages.log
How to use it
You can install it through Docker or ZPM
Deploying with Docker Prerequisites
Make sure you have git and Docker desktop installed.
Looking at my old articles recently. I saw an undeservedly forgotten program that can significantly increase the security of your system by not allowing the user to use old passwords when changing.
If you missed our presentation at the InterSystems UK&I Summit and our demo during the Source Control roundtable, but you still want to find out more about source control for Interoperability Productions... there’s another chance to see it at our User Group Session next Thursday, November 3rd at 3pm (GMT).
The new driver enables highly granular management of Interoperability Productions with tight integration into the InterSystems IRIS management management portal.
One of the topics that comes up often when managing Ensemble productions is disk space:
The database (the CACHE.DAT file) grows in a rate that was unexpected; or the Journal files build up at a fast pace; or the database grows continuously though the system has a scheduled purge of the Ensemble runtime data.
It would have been better if these kind of phenomena would have been observed and accounted for yet at the development and testing stage rather than on a live system.
For this purpose I created a basic framework that could aid in this task.
Just wanted to give visibility to a place in GitHub where everybody can publish Enhancement Requests, Ideas and Innovations that would be great to have in our InterSystems Technology ecosystem.
I'm diving deeper into Caché ObjectScript and would love to open a discussion around the most useful tips, tricks, and best practices you’ve learned or discovered while working with it.
Whether you're an experienced developer or just getting started, ObjectScript has its own set of quirks and powerful features—some well-documented, others hidden gems. I’m looking to compile a helpful set of ideas from the community.
This sample can be used to create Identicons for users of app for example, it can be useful to use in Zen Mojo applications, generating an identifier image based on name of the user by example, but it can be used in others kind of applications too(Zen, CSP etc)
In this article, I’m excited to introduce CodeInspector, a tool designed to simplify code validation by applying custom rules tailored to your development requirements. Whether you're managing a large codebase or working in an agile environment, CodeInspector helps ensure code quality by offering flexibility and adaptability to specific project needs.
We are proud to annouce our latest release of CachéQuality to help you to find and solve coding errors, refactoring, help to follow you coding guidelines, etc. You can check the latest release notes here.
Please allow me to introduce you to a new way of interacting with IPM (InterSystems Package Manager), also known as ZPM,directly from inside Visual Studio Code.
Once again I had a challenge that costed me some time and a lot of testing to reach the best solution. And now that I've managed to solve it, I'd like to share a little bit of my knowledge.
What happened?
In a namespace there were a lot of similar classes, so to make them simpler there were a superclass with comon properties. Also, there are relationships between them. I had to export one of them to JSON, but I couldn't change the superclasses, or I would break down the flow of many other integrations.
A benefit of using Doxygenerate is that Doxygen does more than just HTML output. Tweak the Doxyfile that tells Doxygen what to do and you can easily create a PDF. Our example MARINA application yielded a 524-page PDF. Here's what page 94 looks like:
