Presenter: Paul Dayan
Task: Upgrade with minimal downtime
Approach: Provide examples of planning minimal-downtime upgrades from a variety of starting scenarios

When upgrading Caché, Ensemble or your application on your business-critical system, you want zero or minimum downtime. This session explores the problems and options when upgrading, and how mirroring can reduce or eliminate business disruption, with practical steps and a demonstration.

This is the fourth part of the series of articles on migrating from the main databases on the market to InterSystems IRIS. In this part, the procedures for migrating from Microsoft SQL Server will be detailed. As described in previous articles, there are currently a few options to do the migration, but the two most popular options include the use of DBeaver ( or SQLGateway.

Hi folks!

Sometimes we need the docker image of the InterSystems IRIS solution we build to be published on some docker registry. The cases could be:

  1. Deploy it then in Kubernetes cluster
  2. Let your pal run the image of your public repo without building it locally.

You can push the image to Docker Hub Registry or Github Registry.

In this very short article, I provide a way how to do it automatically on every push to your GitHub repository.

Hi Developers!

Suppose you published your application on Open Exchange with version 1.00. And then you've added a new outstanding feature and you make a new release.

You can also make a new release of your application on Open Exchange.

Why make releases on Open Exchange?

This the way for you to highlight the new features of your application. When you publish a new release the following happens:

Release notes appear on the News page of Open Exchange

The version of your app changes

Version History tab is updated

When dealing with a support issue of one of our Deltanji source control sites this week I learned that if you're using InterSystems versions earlier than 2018.1 on Unix-type platforms it's possible that a class you export in UDL format will subsequently fail to import. So I'm posting this information here in case it helps other folk.

Hello Community,

Thank you all for your continued feedback and support of our ad hoc reporting platform, VDM.  There's been some questions around setting up a non-ODBC connection for InterSystems platforms.  We published a new YouTube video showing the steps necessary to connect to InterSystems Caché and InterSystem IRIS with BridgeWorks VDM.

Function as a service (FaaS) is a category of cloud computing services that provides a platform allowing customers to develop, run, and manage application functionalities without the complexity of building and maintaining the infrastructure typically associated with developing and launching an app. Building an application following this model is one way of achieving a "serverless" architecture, and is typically used when building microservices applications.

FaaS is an extremely popular approach to running workloads in the cloud, allowing developers to focus on writing code.

This article will show you how to deploy InterSystems IRIS methods in a FaaS way.

I have created a package that offers a utility to load a Global into JSON object and reverse
to create a Global from this type of JSON object. Academic refers to the structure created.
Each logical node of the Global is presented separately with all its descendants.
Even if they don't contain any stored data.

From time to time, we get the previous question in support, something or someone is using more licenses than expected, and we need to find what.

We have two scenarios. The first scenario is when we realize that the licenses are exhausted when the application does not work or when we try to connect through the terminal and get the "lovely"

Time travel is like visiting Paris. You can't just read the guide, you have to throw yourself into it. Eat the food, use the wrong verbs, get double the charges, and end up kissing complete strangers.

The Doctor

We are now going to travel through time, that is, we are going to see future and past dates and how to calculate them in different formats. The TARDIS doesn't wait, take the controls and hold on tight.

I have wrote an article about how to install the intersystems cache driver in a Docker container, and then deploy it using Azure Functions:

How to run a (Python) Azure Function as a Docker container & Deploy it using Bicep | Victor Sanner

This might be useful to others, especially the dockerfile which I have copied below. This builds a debian docker container and installs the Intersystems Cache driver, which python can then use :)
