#InterSystems IRIS

InterSystems announces its second developer preview, as part of the developer preview program for the 2023.1 release. Many updates and enhancements have been added in 2023.1 and there are also brand-new capabilities, such as production-ready support for Columnar Storage, ability to use Bulk FHIR, and support to MacOS 13 Ventura. Some of these features or improvements may not be available in this current developer preview.

Any ideas on how this can be solved?

I need to use it with some Unicode text, in Docker image. And get this error. And documentation says nothing about it.

I know that it works in some Linux environments without Docker, but no idea where is the difference.

InterSystems IRIS 2022.2 has Native SDK for Python (https://docs.intersystems.com/iris20222/csp/docbook/Doc.View.cls?KEY=PAG...).

We know how to traverse a global data structure using IRIS Object Script $Order function.

How can I enable that for my namespace?

is it possible to export a specific data lookup table (Ens_Util.LookupTable) directly into Recordmap or Request message class or just a list of strings for me to loop through them?

Trying to find an optimal solution for a high volume interface.

Why am I writting this?

Last year I made an article for starters on using embedded python. Later, it started a little discussion on how to return values with python and I found some interesting observations that are worth writing a little article. Also, hopefully I can reach more people by writing this.

Possible situations

There are two things you'll need to care about when returning a value with python. The first is the type you're trying to return and the second is where you're returning it.

Out of curiosity, I was looking in ^ROUTINE global to see how routines are stored internally.

I found out that lot of nodes are displaying "~pointer" as associated value (eg: instead of a string).

What are those pointers ? My guess is that it references some cache internal structure (eg: some nodes inside a B-Tree).

Is there a easily way to see what is behind ? Are pointers useful for user globals or is this something purely internal to Cache database ?
