Working on a project where we have a web browser that we have to determine a pickup date/time for a pharmacy in a different time zones.

We store the different time zones with their Daylight and Standard offsets.

We have a object script method that figures out the the pickup date/time for a particular pharmacy in their local time zone but the data is being returned in the $H format.

Hi developers!

Those who code IRIS solutions in VSCode using Docker often use the convenient ObjectScript menu, which contains links to Management Portal, Class Reference, Unittest portal, Productions, etc.

While drilling down to a Dev Container to code Embedded Python there is no such option, at least within my settings:

So I don't know how to connect to it.

Thoughts?

We all know that having a set of proper test data before deploying an application to production is crucial for ensuring its reliability and performance. It allows to simulate real-world scenarios and identify potential issues or bugs before they impact end-users. Moreover, testing with representative data sets allows to optimize performance, identify bottlenecks, and fine-tune algorithms or processes as needed. Ultimately, having a comprehensive set of test data helps to deliver a higher quality product, reducing the likelihood of post-production issues and enhancing the overall user experience.

In this article, let's look at how one can use generative AI, namely Gemini by Google, to generate (hopefully) meaningful data for the properties of multiple objects. To do this, I will use the RESTful service to generate data in a JSON format and then use the received data to create objects.

Hi Community!

Good news! One more upcoming event is nearby.

We're please to invite you to join the "J on the Beach" – an international rendezvous for developers and DevOps around Big Data technologies. A fun conference to learn and share the latest experiences, tips and tricks related to Big Data technologies and, the most important part, it’s On The Beach!

We're more than happy to invite you and your colleagues to our InterSystems booth for a personal conversation. InterSystems is also a silver sponsor of the JOTB.

In addition, this year we have a special Global Masters Meeting Point at the conference. You're very welcome to come to our booth to ask questions, share your ideas and, of course, pick up some samples of rewards and GM badges. Looking forward to seeing you soon! wink

So, remember!

Date: May 15-17, 2019
Place: Palacio de Congresos y Exposiciones Adolfo Suarez, Marbella, Spain

Hi all,

I am trying to use some process private variables (percent variables) in Triggers.

I am referring to values from $System.Process, like the ClientIPAddress and CSPSessionID.
These do to not contain values and I suspect it is bacause of scope. I also checked, and the %session variable is not available if the change originated from a CSP request.
I know that in triggers the scope of the variables are to be kept local, that is why NEW is to be used.

Hello all,

I'm "playing" a little bit with IRIS as document database, as it seems really simple to use.

So far, creating a database and inserting documents is fine. Creating a Property so it can be indexed seems very useful and it works well when this property is created at the very beginning. But here my "problem": whenever a new property is added, how can the values be recalculated and inserted, so indices can be correctly updated?

How to understand what's wrong with compilation if the compilator just hides errors?

Compilation started on 05/15/2023 15:58:11 with qualifiers 'cuk'

Detected 1 errors during compilation in 0.003s.

Compilation started on 05/15/2023 15:58:32 with qualifiers 'cuk'

Compilation started on 05/15/2023 15:58:51 with qualifiers 'cuk'

Detected 40 errors during compilation in 0.089s.

40 errors, and what do I have to do with this so valuable information?

Why change?

I have already asked a question about migrating an Oracle database to Caché, and I was promptly answered. Now, I have one more question, however it is more conceptual. In general, any tool defends its benefits, and looking at Caché's, among many, there is a lot of talk about speed. The question is, if I already have a database, and at the moment, its performance is not a problem, I would like to know what else could influence the change of this database? Remembering that it is functional and without any apparent problem.

Hi Developers!

For those who want to participate in the Advent of Code 2019 and code with ObjectScript in IRIS, I created a very simple but handy Github Template.

Use the green button

to copy template in your own repo, clone the repo and run in the repo folder:

docker-compose up -d

you will get InterSystems IRIS 2019.4 Community Edition running with the template classes to load input data from files and Day1 solution.

This is also set up to start crafting solutions of Advent of Code 2019 and edit, compile and debug ObjectScript with VSCode addon.

Happy coding with Advent of Code 2019!

Comparisons in DTLs

Is there a way to compare the value in a source field against all of the values in a repeating field? For example, we have multiple DG1 target segments populated. Is there an easy way to check a source DG1 segments against all of the target DG1 segments? I didn't know if there is a wild card I can use for the comparison.

QEWD-baseline

Hot on the heels of the QEWD-JSdb announcement, QEWD-baseline provides a ready-to-run baseline environment for developing REST APIs.

The QEWD-baseline repository (https://github.com/robtweed/qewd-baseline) includes a fully-detailed tutorial on how to build RESY APIs using QEWD and the QEWD-JSdb database (running of course on IRIS).

https://github.com/robtweed/qewd-baseline/blob/master/REST.md

Included in the tutorial is:

When there's a performance issue, whether for all users on the system or a single process, the shortest path to understanding the root cause is usually to understand what the processes in question are spending their time doing. Are they mostly using CPU to dutifully march through their algorithm (for better or worse); or are they mostly reading database blocks from disk; or mostly waiting for something else, like LOCKs, ECP or database block collisions?
