1. Purpose

This is a 10-minute simple step-by-step guide on how to quickly set up various flavors of HealthShare docker containers from scratch on a Win10 laptop. 

For example, we can build a couple of  HealthShare "global edition vs UK Edition" demos as shown below.  

There are a couple of frequently asked questions from HealthShare colleagues and partners:

  • "I am no Docker guy, but is there a quick way to build various flavors of HealthShare containers simply for demo/PoC/dev/training or troubleshooting purpose?"
  • "I just can't make "Docker for Windows" work on my Win10 laptop - how did you make that work? What's the simplest/easiest way to play with HealthShare containers on my old Windows laptop?"

The truth is I am not Docker specialist either - I wish I had time for it. I am using an old laptop, and I haven't even tried "Docker for Windows" yet.

Database systems have very specific backup requirements that in enterprise deployments require forethought and planning. For database systems, the operational goal of a backup solution is to create a copy of the data in a state that is equivalent to when application is shut down gracefully.  Application consistent backups meet these requirements and Caché provides a set of APIs that facilitate the integration with external solutions to achieve this level of backup consistency.

1. Purpose and Objectives

In  previous"Part I" we have set up a deep learning demo environment. In this "Part II" we will test what we could do with it.

Many people at my age had started with the classic MLP (Multi-Layer Perceptron) model. It is intuitive hence conceptually easier to start with.

So let's try a Keras "deep learning MLP" with standard demo data that everybody in AI/NN community has been using. It is a kind of so called "supervised learning". We will see how simple to run it on the Keras level.

We could later touch on its history and on why it's called "deep learning" the buzz word - what actually evolved over the recent 20 years.

Last week it was noticed that Python overtook Java by becoming the most popular language in PYPL Index.  Tensorflow is a powerful computation engine, which is very popular in research and academic worlds too. HealthShare is a data platform that provides an unified care record of patients for care providers

There are often questions surrounding the ideal Apache HTTPD Web Server configuration for HealthShare.  The contents of this article will outline the initial recommended web server configuration for any HealthShare product. 

As a starting point, Apache HTTPD version 2.4.x (64-bit) is recommended.  Earlier versions such as 2.2.x are available, however version 2.2 is not recommended for performance and scalability of HealthShare.

For Global Summit 2016, I set out to showcase a Reference Architecture I had been working on for a National Provider Directory solution with State Level Instances and a National Instance all running HealthShare Provider Directory and all running on AWS Infrastructure.

In short, I wanted to highlight:

  • The implementation of Amazon Web Services to provision the infrastructure, including the auto-creation of the state level instances through Cloud Formation.
  • The use of the HSPD Broadcast functionality to Notify Upstream Systems Changes in Master Provider Data.
  • The implementation of a transformation of the standard Broadcast Object to HL7 MFN for interoperability.
  • The principals of Master Data Management applied to the Provider Directory.

Often InterSystems technology architect team is asked about recommended storage arrays or storage technologies.  To provide this information to a wider audience as reference, a new series is started to provide some of the results we have encountered with various storage technologies.  As a general recommendation, all-flash storage is highly recommended with all InterSystems products to provide the lowest latency and predictable IOPS capabilities.

The first in the series was the most recently tested Netapp AFF A300 storage array.  This is middle-tier type storage array with several higher models above it.  This specific A300 model is capable of supporting a minimal configuration of only a few drives to hundreds of drives per HA pair, and also capable of being clustered with multiple controller pairs for tens of PB's of disk capacity and hundreds of thousands of IOPS or higher.

I recently helped a site investigate a problem that appeared after they upgraded their Windows instance of Caché from 2015.1 to 2017.1. A terminal session launched from the server's desktop cube was unable to run OS-level commands using the $ZF(-1) function. For instance, using the no-op command "REM" as follows:

write $zf(-1,"rem")

was returning -1, indicating that the Windows command could not be issued.

It turned out that their original 2015.1 Caché service was running under a specific Windows account (as opposed to LocalSystem), which is commonly done in order to allow background processes to access UNC shares. Indeed, when installing with Normal or Locked Down security you are prompted for the credentials of a Windows account to run the service as

Zen report can create PDF document (https://docs.intersystems.com/latest/csp/docbook/DocBook.UI.Page.cls?KEY=GRPT_xslfo_pdf_config ). Store your images in the table. Pass session id to the Zen report. Zen report will select images using SQL. The <img> element will insert images to the report:

HealthShare HealthConnect and Information Exchange version 15.03 support import transformations from C-CDA 2.1 to SDA. You can find these transforms in your installation's csp/xslt/SDA3 directory. For general information about import transforms, see "CDA Documents and XSL Transforms in HealthShare" in Overview of Health Connect.

Among the enhancements to import functionality added in connection with C-CDA 2.1 support is the ability to preprocess your C-CDA input files prior to the transformation done for import.

Preprocessing support can greatly simplify and reduce total processing time for transformations. Some possible use cases are

I wanted to share a little tidbit which is in the Studio documentation (http://docs.intersystems.com/cache20152/csp/docbook/DocBook.UI.Page.cls?...) but many people who have been using the InterSystems Studio for a long time missed the addition of this *very* useful feature, and every time I mention this to an audience  I see at least one face light up because of how excited they are to learn about it!

Within Studio, the Output pane (View -> Output) is actually misnamed.  It is actually an Input/Output window which can be used to run Caché ObjectScript commands!

I needed to pass through a file with Ensemble but the operation wasn't writing some filenames as given because the  EnsLib.File.PassthroughOperation 'sanitizes' filenames removing characters that are not valid on some operating
systems;

If your application is raising <PROTECT> errors and you're finding it hard to work out why, here's a way to get additional information.

First, if auditing is not already enabled, turn it on:

Then use "Configure System Events" (highlighted above) and locate the event named %System/%Security/Protect. In the screenshot below I used the Filter field to do this (type "protect" - highlighted below - and press TAB):

Notice that the Enabled column shows a value "No". By default <PROTECT> errors are not logged in the audit. So though my system has seen a total of 2 of the associated events, 0 have been written.

Use the "Change Status" link to toggle the Enabled value to "Yes".

Now do whatever causes your application to raise a <PROTECT> error

I only recently noticed the presence of a local database named CACHE alongside the more familiar CACHESYS, CACHELIB, CACHETEMP and CACHEAUDIT.

A bit of digging through the documentation archive led me to conclude that the CACHE database arrived in 2010.2, where the release notes say:

In this posting I want to raise the profile of a feature that arrived in 2009.1 but is perhaps not very well known.

It is sometimes useful to make certain packages, globals or routines available to all of your namespaces. Of course you can add the necessary mappings whenever you create a new namespace, but here's a simpler way.

First you need a special namespace definition called %ALL. Create it in the same way you'd create any namespace. It doesn't matter which database you set as its default for code and data. I recommend picking CACHETEMP as a reminder that this namespace doesn't actually deal with its own databases
