I have been reviewing the details on the CPF Merge functionality offered in IRIS:

I love the frequent mentions of versioning the CPF merge files in Source control. One thing that is not yet clear to me is how this would work for rolling back a change:

Intersystems is all about name spaces. Each Name space can be mapped to one or more databases and vice versa. In my desktop with intersystems, Can i have DEV , TEST environments pointing to different name spaces at same point of time ? if i am right here, then the DEV environment is nothing but the namespace that we work on....Please let know

I am wondering about upgrading our Healthshare mirrored environment to the latest release. Has anyone upgraded recently to what version and what kind of effort was put into it. I am thinking it will take 2 analysts full time for 3 months. Am I out of the ball park on this estimate? We have bout 600 operations, Processes and services. What are some of the benefits we get from upgrading and what are some of the problems you ran into during the upgrade? Any information you have to share would be greatly appreciated.

Have you ever thought what could be a reason why some development environment (database, language) would eventually become popular? What part of this popularity could be explain as language quality? What by new and idioms approaches introduced by early language adopters? What is due to healthy ecosystem collaboration? What is due to some marketing genius?

When developing with ObjectScript Package Manager, one crucial thing is the package version, which we place in the module.xml file. When we add changes to the package and are ready to publish a new version of the package in the registry, we also need to increase the version number. This is clear, but it is annoying, and we can often forget to do that.

This small article will help you to automate such a process.

Let's say I want to execute this cache script (saved as test.txt) from OS terminal:

zn "USER"
write 1
zn "%SYS"
write 2
halt

Executing the following command in a terminal:

csession cache < test.txt

Would yield this output:

$ csession cache < script.txt

Node: gitlab-test, Instance: CACHE

USER>

USER>
1
USER>

%SYS>
2
%SYS>
Job succeeded

Is there a better way to run these scripts?

The goal of this article is to give users of InterSystems products background on source control in general, and how it can be used with Atelier, an Eclipse plugin. Specifically, I'll be discussing what to do when all of your developers share a single dev instance of an InterSystems product where they can edit and compile code.

One of the many benefits of using Atelier for your ObjectScript development is its integration with a wide range of source control systems. This integration enables you to use modern development workflows which increase collaboration while minimizing the risk inherent to volatile code bases.

Veteran ObjectScript developers can tell you about the workarounds that were needed before they could use source control systems with products like Caché and Ensemble. One of these was to treat the data store itself effectively as a code repository. And so shared development environments became essential for many of our customers to be productive and successful.

For code shops that rely on shared development environments, adopting Atelier might seem too complicated. This article aims to provide a practical example to guide your team towards success with Atelier.

There are a select few in the group that have been using Github as a Local Client push to a Repository setup in GitHub. Questions were brought up today about the security, and possible issues when it comes to data being pushed in this method.

Looking over code we have noticed that there is Histogram data within some of the class files that could be considered a security issue. Does anyone else have concerns with the Histogram data being within the class files pushed up to github?

I'm wondering... what solutions if any, have users adopted in order to track changes made to the System Default Settings that hold environment-specific component settings ?

Do you manage to control access to, and track historical changes of, these values using Source Control system ??
