I want to know how to distinguish whether a variable is a pure numeric string or a number, such as "123" and "123".

I only know an inelegant way.

I'd like to share an example on how the new Embedded Python feature in IRIS helped me in my daily routines.

While I’m participating in the iris-kaggle-socrata-generator project with Henrique Dias, I got to unzip datasets from Kaggle in order to import them.

After many sleepless nights it's a pleasure to announce the newer, better, moderner ObjectScript compiler which implemented pretty much everything you ever wanted to have in modern ObjectScript:

• Design objective of this new compiler is to parse reasonable subset of current ObjectScript syntax which will look readable for stranger, and not scare them with 1 letter syntax. The good start for compiler was the old-good COS Guidelines from here https://github.com/intersystems-ru/cos-guidelines
• For reasons we mentioned above we do not parse 1 letter syntax. It's declared evil;
• We do not handle dotted syntax for the same reason - modern syntax with {} is proper replacement for dotted syntax blocks;

But we not only parse the modern ObjectScript syntax, we have implemented finally the long-standing request which we always dreamed about. Closures!

Setting the Scene

I was editing the properties of a persistent ObjectScript class the other day and noticed that the storage definition wasn't updating to reflect my latest changes.

In this case, I deleted a property that was no longer needed from the class definition, saved, recompiled, and still saw it in the storage definition.

Totally new to IRIS and Cache.

Trying to evaluate it and work out how we could use it.

As a standard application database. Object or relational etc. does not matter.

Issue is ObjectScript.

So:

1) Can we develop, maintain and use an IRIS database and never use ObjectScript i.e. use only Java, Python, C++ interfaces etc. (exactly which one does not matter)? Would that make designing and using the IRIS database more prone to inefficiency and error?

I like to install Cache Evaluation version for learning purpose. Could you please share the download link to install it? I appreciate any help you all provide. Thanks.

Hi All,

Is anyone using Veritas NetBackup 8.1 to backup Caché database? DB is on Linux 7.4 on host running VMware ESXI 6. Size of DB is about 1.5TB. Any advice on integrating with freeze/thaw.

Hi community,

I have an incorrect InterSystems Server Credentials password stored by the Workstation Keychain in VS Code. VS Code is trying to use this incorrect stored credential to access the server and does not prompt or allow me to input a different password. I do not see any settings associated with the Keychain or resetting those credentials. Does anyone know of the process to delete or replace a stored password here?

I am trying to install Intersystems IRIS Health Community On Windows 10 Pro version. I am getting 112 error while installing and in some point it Roll Back the Action.

But I am able to configure in Windows 10 Enterprise version.

Is any other settings are there to configure in Windows 10 Pro version or IRIS is not supported?

I have to write a DTL with the Data Transformation Builder to convert messages from HL7 ORU R01 v2.1 to HL7 ORU R01 v2.5. The incoming messages contain a text in OBX-5. This text contains LF characters (only LF - Segment separator is CR). Therefore it is not possible to parse the incoming message. While testing the transformation the OBX Segment ends at the first occurence of LF. Is there a way to replace the LF character before parsing?
