Is your development team following best practice now that source control and continuous integration testing are better supported by InterSystems new IDE Atelier?

Many teams are turning to Git as their version control system of choice because it never locks files, among other reasons. These teams may also be following a multi-server development workflow where changes are migrated from a DEV server to a TEST server to a PROD server. How should these teams organize their repository given this configuration?

Often we create and edit InterSystems IRIS Interoperability solutions via a set of UI tools that is provided with IRIS. But it is sometimes difficult to setup the development environment to handle changes we make in the UI to source control.

Data transformations can be changed in Management portal, but the modifications are not synced with visual studio code. Classes are synced from VSCode to Iris. VSCode can take care of the git repository.

I am curious to know how people are developing data transformations on Iris with VSCode? Are you editing the DT classes with VSCode and forget about the UI? Are you exporting from management portal the files to VSCode directory? Are you using a source control hook?

We have a few projects and some of these projects share code "libraries". Some of which are persistent classes that are used by multiple systems. All these are currently deployed on Ensemble. We want to move some of the smaller ones to the cloud and make use of IRIS.

The compile step in VS Code when using the InterSystems VS Code extensions appears to modify line endings in our class files when newly pulled from remote repo.

What steps can we take to stop this happening? / What settings can we modify?

How do you configure it to have source control on a namespace accessed via the InterSystems Server Manager extension?

An example from the video explains only how it will work with a cloned git repo on a local machine (PC/Mac), but so far, I can't get it to work on a remote development server (replacing existing remote Studio via RDP with local VS Code).

Is there a way to export and import web application configuration? For example to save it to version control (git) and to import it to other server.

A lot of developers like to work with Studio and have been looking into source code version control such as GIT or into enabling modern development workflows like CICD or DevOps processes.

This article describe an elementary solution to get you started in CICD and DevOps, even if you are not yet ready to move to Atelier or forth coming VS Code approach which enable client side source code version control.
