The Application Services team is pleased to announce the release of git-source-control version 2.4.0, introducing several new features to the open-source project.

For those unfamiliar, git-source-control is an embedded (or "server-side") source control tool for InterSystems products, installed through the InterSystems Package Manager.

Here are the key additions to the 2.4.0 release:

  1. Basic Mode

Basic mode presents an overall great simplification to the git workflow, suitable for users with less knowledge of git as a source control tool.

The VS Code extension development team is looking for beta testers to provide feedback on a proposed overhaul of the client-side editing workflow. The full list of changes can be found in the GitHub pull request description. Here are the highlights:

  • Support the use of client-side editing in any non-isfs workspace folder, not just folders in your local file system. For example, with VS Code Remote Development.
  • Create an index of all Classes, MAC and INT routines, and Include files inside non-isfs workspace folders.

It's been a while since I've posted about Embedded Git on the Developer Community, and I'd like to provide an update on the massive amount of work we've done this year and where we're going next.

Context

If you're building solutions on IRIS and want to use Git, that's great! Just use VSCode with a local git repo and push your changes out to the server - it's that easy.

If you're building solutions on IRIS and want to use Git, that's great! Just use VSCode with a local git repo and push your changes out to the server - it's that easy.

But what if:

  • You're collaborating with other developers on a shared, remote development environment and want to avoid concurrent editing of the same file
  • You're using editors based in the management portal for BPL, DTL, pivots, dashboards, etc.

Hi All! For those of you who are users of our cloud services, you may have been introduced to Health Connect Cloud. One topic within that cloud service that can be a little tricky is understanding how GitLab and the source control workflow fit seamlessly into your integration workflow in Health Connect Cloud. I recently presented a lightboard video explaining how this works, including the slightly different workflows for building interfaces via code versus building via the Management Portal UI. If you use Health Connect Cloud, let me know if this is helpful or if you have questions!

Exciting news for developers using GitLab for their InterSystems applications repositories! Open Exchange has expanded its support to include GitLab, allowing you to submit your projects just as easily as you would do with GitHub repos.

Submitting Your GitLab Repo app on Open Exchange:

  1. Start by navigating to Open Exchange and log in to your account.
  2. Head to the "Submit Application"
  3. In the "GitHub/GitLab URL" field, include the link to your open GitLab repository.
  4. Make sure to check the "Use GitHub/GitLab README as long description" checkbox.

Hi Developers, I am glad to announce Git for InterSystems IRIS, my first submission to OpenExchange and part of the current Developer Tools Contest.

Git for InterSystems IRIS is a source control package that aims to facilitate a native integration of the Git workflow with the InterSystems IRIS platform. It is designed to work as a transparent link between InterSystems IRIS and a Git-enabled code directory that, once setup, requires no user interaction. A detailed description can be found on GitHub.

I am looking forward to learn what you think about this approach. Does it make sense?

Hi Developers,

Often we create and edit InterSystems IRIS Interoperability solutions via a set of UI tools that is provided with IRIS. But it is sometimes difficult to setup the development environment to handle changes we make in the UI to source control.

This video illustrates how git-source-control helps with source control Interoperability components while changing it in the UI.

I'd like to bring your attention to my two Virtual Summit sessions, even though they're not HALF as cool as Embedded Python.

Git & GitLab for Shared Development Environments details the newly-released git-source-control package (see also on the Open Exchange) which provides a new best-of-breed solution for server-side IRIS/Git integration, especially for shared remote development environments. (I need to write up a post about this package specifically and plan to do so soon.

Hi, Community!

Continuous Delivery is a software engineering approach in which teams produce software in short cycles, ensuring that the software can be reliably released at any time. It aims at building, testing, and releasing software faster and more frequently. The approach helps reduce the cost, time, and risk of delivering changes by allowing for more incremental updates to applications in production.

Join us at 07:00 UTC, April 24th for a webinar with a live demo "Git flows and Continuous Delivery" by @Eduard Lebedyuk

The language of the webinar is Russian.
