Question PaulSomebody · Aug 19, 2025

Hello All,

I have used github (outside of IRIS) for many many years and have no problem with it.  Also used SVN and other source control systems.

I have a conceptual problem understanding the ISC github links and how they work via VSCode.

https://github.com/intersystems/git-source-control

 Our server is on Linux.

What I've done:

1. On Linux Server - d ##class(SourceControl.Git.API).Configure()

2. Create a local repo (we have a local git), say https://repo/myrepo

3. VSCode installed Object script addons, github Pull requests extension

4. VSCode Connect to namespace on server, all good

5.

Question JESUS (COGNOSANTE) BRAVO · Jun 24, 2025

I installed and configure CodeTidy in my local development environment, without InterSystems source-control (git-source-control) and only git for source control.

I would like to use only CodeTidy to stablish an automated  Linting and Code Style Validation for InterSystems ObjectScript code triggered by GitHub Actions.

Could you shed some light on how to accomplish that?

Hi everyone,

I’m working with an existing InterSystems IRIS server that hosts several web applications and namespace-specific code and data. I’d like to reverse-engineer the current environment into a %Installer.Manifest file so I can store it in Git and manage its changes.

My goal is to:

  • Track the application setup and configuration in version control
  • Rebuild environments consistently (namespaces, CSP apps, security roles, etc.)
  • Possibly automate deployments later on

I understand that %Installer is declarative and wasn’t necessarily designed to reflect a running system.

Hi,

We are currently switching from Studio to VSCode and central GIT with Serverside Development and have a few start problems.
I have set up a system with Git.

The baseline commit including remote push works.

But now I have a problem with the VSCode. When I create and compile a new class, it saves it correctly. But if I want to make further changes to the class, it saves the class and loads it again with the previous status.  So the changes I made are gone again.

I have deactivated CompileOnSave without success.
The log shows the following

exporting new version of Utils.HL7Documentation.

Hello everyone! This is my first post into the developer community and one that I hope is fairly simple to answer. In our environment we currently have 3 different Test environments for testing before migrating code to our Prod environment. Currently we are working on establishing a source control method using Git in house which has been a bit of a struggle. We have also had developers that had used different test and migration methods in the past which has caused some issues with keeping the different test environment in sync.

Question Rajasekaran Dhandapani · Apr 9, 2022

I am new to Intersystems, in our project we are directly connecting to the server (environment) using  Intersystems VSCode extensions and publishing our changes from local machine. This is not the way we usually do as development process.

Is it possible to implement continuous integration ? So that developers can check-in their code in GIT Hub and can integrate Jenkins and automate the deployment?

Could you please help me on this ?

Question Pavithra Rajamohan · Dec 24, 2021

Hello,

I am in the process of trying to create a GIT repository and I am struggling to export all the relevant classes from Studio, as I only have access to Studio and not able to export via the Management Portal. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can export from Studio as one project to include all the relevant folders and its associated classes?

Are there also any recommended documentations/links you would suggest to help me get a better understanding of  GIT and how it works etc?

Thanks!

Pavi

Hi

I am in the process of trying to implement version control software with studio.  Has anyone got any recommendations (either Linux based/windows based) as a place to start I have installed Gitlab and I wanted to know whether anyone has come across any obstacles using this.

I was also wondering whether anyone has developed any hooks for Gitlab that works well with Studio as I would prefer if there was a more integrated solution with studio?  Any help with this would be great.

Thank you.

Kind Regards,

Salma

Question Ben Spead · Aug 29, 2017

I want to demonstrate using Git via Server-side Source Control hooks (to allow both Studio and Atelier to access a Shared Dev namespace), and I was planning to use the popular Caché Git hooks:

https://github.com/intersystems/cache-tort-git

Unfortunately, when I installed and configured them I realized that they will not work in a Shared Dev configuration because those hooks rely on calling the TortoiseGit Windows executable, which means that your IDE and your Caché instance must both be running on the same machine (this doesn't make sense for Shared Dev configurations).

Data transformations can be changed in Management portal, but the modifications are not synced with visual studio code. Classes are synced from VSCode to Iris. VSCode can take care of the git repository.

I am curious to know how people are developing data transformations on Iris with VSCode? Are you editing the DT classes with VSCode and forget about the UI? Are you exporting from management portal the files to VSCode directory? Are you using a source control hook?

Thank you

Hi,

When wanting to use VS-Code for server-side editing.. - In VS-code I can right click on a server item (eg a class) to see a set of menu options including 'Server Source Control... ' and 'Server Command Menu...' at the bottom.

I noticed that these options are somewhat connected to my server-side source control hooks class that inherits from %Studio.SourceControl.Base, however, I am seeing different behavior between my custom subclass of this, and, the provided %Atelier.SourceControl subclass.

How should the subclass of %Studio.SourceControl.

I searched to see if there was a previous question on this, but I didn't quite find anything.  Please link if you think this has been answered before (I have a feeling it has): what are the barriers to source control using Cache 2018 and Studio?

I'm trying to figure out how to create a local repository but I can't access the folder structure in the USER namespace for my local instance.  If I could, it would be as simple as navigating there in Git Bash and doing a 'git init' and then I can push changes to a remote repo for control.

Hi, Community!

I'm using Git with DeepSee and when I need to do a commit to the git repo I'm exporting ALL the pivots and dashboards from the namespace. But I can forget to do that) And it can take time for a large system.

What is the way to manage automatical export of DeepSee artefacts which we are editing in UI (Cubes, Pivots, Dashboards, Pivot Variables, Term lists, Shared Measures) into files every time when I push Save button?

Question Joaquin Montero · Feb 25, 2020

Hello,

I've always worked with typical web applications (a bunch of code files that sit in a server that connects to an RDS). Now our team is responsible for different IRIS for Health environments. We are currently working to set up the local dev environment and this is the current scenario:

* IRIS for Health local development server is running in a container

* Developers are using VSCode with the objectScript plugin

* GitHub as a version control system for the code and configuration.

Our goal is to be able to keep track of the entire code and configuration of the IRIS instance.

Question Graham Hartley · Oct 8, 2019

Hi All, I'm in the process of trying to rollout the git version control system with our current code base within Atelier.  We use Ensemble to develop interfaces but are looking to move to IRIS in the near future.  Our code is structured similar to below:

 Site

           System1

Routers

Processes

Transformations

Data

Services

Operations

System2

Routers

Processes

Transformations

Services

Operations

Data

Productions

Routers

Operations

My initial thoughts are that we would have three repositories.  One for DEV, TEST and PROD.

Hi Everyone,

We have previously implemented CI/CD for Ensemble using GitLab hooks where we had One Production file - MyProduction.xml in all branches (Dev, Test, Prod) but developers merged Items that they built (new Business Services , Processes etc) into the Production class from another branch (for ex - Dev branch to Test Branch production class) and commit taking the changes to the higher branches. I have also seen customers having Three production classes in the names of the Servers eg  - Dev.xml, Test.xml , Live.xml under production folder in Studio.

Question Stas Rabkin · May 19, 2019

Hi,

recentley we started to work with Atelier & VSTS in our organization .

we are looking for a way to use the VSTS as Our Version/Source control system .

I have read the article about "Continuous Delivery of your InterSystems solution using GitLab" & now trying to find a way to use a similar metodology with the VSTS that we have in our organization.

It Apeares that it is possible to Create a Git Repository in the VSTS but i'm not sure how are we to use it from the atelier.

The main questions are:

  1. What Is the best practice in saving cache code in VSTS GIT?(cls files?, legacy XML?

Question Travis Thurber · Apr 28, 2016

Hi,

I'm in the process of trying to convert my team to a Git-based workflow for source code version management (we use Ensemble and HealthShare, but build a lot of customizations on top). We are having a hard time working with Atelier in this regard for a few reasons:

  • Atelier always wants to sync the local files with the Cache server files, so switching between git branches causes all sorts of mayhem with the synchronization. Creating new files locally leads to a similar problem.

Question Stefan Cronje · Oct 20, 2018

Hi,

We have a few projects and some of these projects share code "libraries". Some of which are persistent classes that are used by multiple systems. All these are currently deployed on Ensemble. We want to move some of the smaller ones to the cloud and make use of IRIS.

The challenge is that once we synchronise the code to IRIS from Atelier, then IRIS changes the storage definitions, which then creates changes to the files. We do not want to commit all these changes to git as it will happen again once someone synchronises with Ensemble.

Question Gilberto Junior · Sep 13, 2018

Hi

I'm starting work with the Atelier.

Starting from the point that Eclipse uses local files on the workstation, COS development can be versioned with market tools (For example GIT or Subversion).

I would like to know how the community has worked with code versioning, to create a consistent versioning model.

I initially have the following doubts:

  1.  Creation of WorkSpaces and Projects
  2.  Merge files
  3. Change Branch Functional Development
  4. Promotion of Environments: Development -> Homologation -> Production
  5. Generating Historical Tags

Thank you all.

Question Roberto Cahanap · May 30, 2018

I posted a question here about a week ago about GIT. I believe we understand it well enough to use. We are still trying to determine the best flow for our needs.

But now the question is how do we integrate this with GIT?

We are new to both Git and Atelier and would love to get advice.

Currently I  believe the flow would be something like this:

1.Create a branch from our origin repository (let's say Ticket 123 branch)

2.Download that branch locally to our PCs with Cache running a local instance

3. Checkout Ticket 123 branch locally

4.

Question Roberto Cahanap · Apr 13, 2018

We are going to start using Git within Cache.

One question came up - if the branch that you checked out does not have the class or mac file, what is the correct thing to do?

Should we delete from Cache or should we just keep it?

I'm leaning more towards deleting it because Cache should reflect what is in your work folder in git. But other team members are saying to keep it.
