Hello everyone,
After some work with IRIS we want to share our ToolBox-4-Iris with you.
What is this about?
The ToolBox-4-Iris is an API for IRIS with a collection of handy and useful tools - features that are not available in IRIS, but greatly simplify application development. To save time and effort on the "typical tools" that every developer needs. This includes additional classes, individual methods or even more efficient macros, which are described in the respective packages.
Content
Macros
General ObjectScript macros, Status macros, National Language Support macros, and JavaScript macros.
Hi all, I have released the latest version of VSCode extension for ObjectScript already a month ago, and finally a time for the info about this new release.
So, what's new in the release:
For details how it works now, look further.
Hi developers!
Every day coding with IRIS and docker I call the following 3 commands in VSCode terminal. Always the same for any projects:
docker-compose build ; to build the container docker-compose up -d ; to run the IRIS in container docker-compose exec iris iris session iris ; to open the IRIS terminal
Is there any way to map the key sequence which will type me the rest?
e.g.
irisb for docker-compose build, irisup for docker-compose up -d, irist for docker-compose exec iris iris session iris
I know and use keyboard sequences for mac, but it doesn't work in VSCode terminal :/
We at George James Software are pleased to announce that our acclaimed code debugger and editorSerenji is now available as a Visual Studio Code extension.
As well as supporting the latest InterSystems IRIS platform Serenji also works with earlier platforms, including versions lacking the server-side Atelier API support required by other VS Code extensions.
Serenji connects you directly to the code in your namespaces, resulting in an experience more familiar to existing Studio users. No need to export and import classes and routines.
We believe Serenji is the first extension to bring VS Code's powerful debugging features to ObjectScript developers.

The Atelier team is excited to announce the promotion of Atelier 1.3.144 to the beta channel for Windows, Mac and Linux. This new release contains two major enhancements - a new error message for incompatible encoding schemes and an improved parser. Please head to the Release Notes to learn more.
For the best upgrade experience, InterSystems suggests that you install Eclipse Photon (4.8) fresh before installing Atelier 1.3. Find out how here.
As always, we look forward to your feedback!
There are many projects which work on InterSystems products, and they are not always written only in ObjectScript. I think some of you working with different programming languages and already have some experience with other editors, and hope you already have a favourite online editor.
My current choice is VSCode, whereas you may already know I have added an extension to support ObjectScript.
The 2019.2 version of InterSystems IRIS Studio is now Generally Available!
InterSystems IRIS Studio 2019.2 is the first release of our cross-product Studio development tool. It can connect to InterSystems IRIS servers and also to Caché/Ensemble servers, and behaves appropriately for each. This helps developers that want to work across both sets of products as well as those that want do develop against containerized IRIS using Studio.
IRIS Studio is a separate download that runs on Microsoft Windows (Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2019, and Windows 10 for x86-64).
Hi Dev Community,
My team is currently working on a project where we need to post pdf documents to a 3rd party REST API.
The API specifies a field in the JSON request message to contain the 'physical content' of the file as an array of bytes, example of the JSON request as follows - data truncated for readability purposes:
{
"CaptureSource":2,
"RecipientID":"ID34",
"Document": {
"Guid":"5D847A4E9CC1485382DC4A5F5DC80D6C",
"EventDate":"2019-01-14T13:23:46",
"FileExtension":"pdf",

Hey developers,
I have great news for you. A few days ago, GitHub was updated with the latest version of linguist project, which is being used to recognize source code types in repositories. It helps to determine which programming language had been used in every file of the repository. Repository statistics section shows the results of this module work.

Also, you can search across all available GitHub repositories for any chosen language.
Hi Community!
I have very good news for the developers, who are using GitHub to host projects with InterSystems ObjectScript. GitHub introduced the support of InterSystems ObjectScript this week!
How does it work?
Now all the .cls files in your repository are considered as InterSystems ObjectScript and highlighted according to the language rules of ObjectScript. For example WebTerminal, Samples-Data.
Atelier has reached a threshold of feature completeness. Atelier 1.3 which is currently in flight will mainly focus on supporting the latest release of Eclipse Photon. After release, Atelier and Studio will continue to receive critical software corrections.
So i'm having this problem with the task manager, the tasks simply stopped running. I had a problem with queued massages and trying to figure out what to do i'm afraid I may messed up something else, can someone help me ?
Well, we now have two different platforms Caché and IRIS. With so many changes, that it makes so many difficulties to have the same sources for both platforms. I'm not arguing about the reasons for it. Some of the changes are really reasonable.
It's good when I can import code from Caché to IRIS and get it worked after all background job was done. In Caché we have %CacheStorage type used for Storages. In IRIS it automatically converts to %Storage.Persistent. So, If I develop on IRIS, I will have incompatible sources for Caché.
So, it is one of the problems, and I expect more.
Hello everyone,
I'm trying to migrate the IDE for programming in COS, we normally use the Studio, but we want to use a more modern IDE. Our team has knowledge with Visual Studio plataform, but we couldn't configurate the compiler and terminal, I installed the extension InterSystems ObjectScript and tried to configurate to connect with my local machine, unfortunately the connection don't sucessed.
Someone has material for how i can connect and compile? Some material i saw show how to use the compiler, but not how can i do the configuration.
Best regards,
Flávio.
Hi! We have received a request to create a new rule on CachéQuality to identify when a developer uses double quotes (" ") within any SQL statement.
We have been asked many times about SQL validation rules, and we would like to open a debate to allow everyone discuss what would you like to be checked on a SQL statement.
Current examples are for basic situations:
Set stmt = ##CLASS(%SQL.Statement).
InterSystems is delighted to announce the support of Docker container technology as a platform from the moment 2016.1 will be released.
Docker is a disruptive system technology that has many benefits and offers many advantages for those investing in infrastructure-as-code or immutable-infrastructure provisioning & deployment scenarios.
Like any new technology that appears, there is a learning curve, and many considerations need to occur when using it. However, Docker container technology has already proven to be successful by a huge follow-up with many companies already using it in production.
Hope someone can help me, so i was developing a script and during the tests I was using the csession to execute a method. Also i thought i had to stop the instance i was using, so I used the ccontrol stop [instanceName] to stop the instance, but when i restarted the instance i got this error trying to start my production, I have an idea of what's the problem but i don't know how to fix it.
ERRO <Ens>ErrException: <FILEFULL>zStartProduction+62^Ens.Director.1 ^Ens.Runtime("Name"),/hs-connect-hom/db/BPINTEGRADEV-GLB/ -- - registrado no log como '-' número - @' Set ^Ens.This is a continuation of my story about the development of my project isc-tar started in the first part.
Just having tests is not enough, it does not mean that you will run tests after all changes. Running tests should be automated, and when you cover all your functionality with tests, everything should work well after any change in any place. And Continuous Integration (CI) helps to keep the code and deployment procedure with as fewer bugs as possible and automates the routine procedures, like publishing releases.
I use GitHub to store the source code. And some time ago GitHub started to work on its own CI/CD platform and named it GitHub Actions. It is not widely available, yet. You have to be signed as a beta tester for this feature, as I did. GitHub Actions uses quite a different way how to deal with a build workflow. What is important that Github Actions allows to use Docker, and it’s quite easy to customize available actions. And interesting that GitHub Actions is really much bigger than any classic CI like we have in Travis, Circle or Gitlab CI and so on. You can find more in the official documentation.

I'm sure most of you have already familiar with the possibility of using GZIP in InterSystems products. But, the problem is that GZIP working only with one file or stream, and it does not support folders. When you work in Unix systems, there is a possibility how to solve it, using tar compress tool which goes with every Linux system from out of the box. But what to do if you have work on Windows as well, which does not have it.
I am pleased to offer you my new project isc-tar, which will help you do not care about operating system, and deal with tar files anywhere.
I am just recently announced my project isc-tar. But sometimes it is not less interesting what’s behind the scene: how it was built, how it works and what happens around the project. Here is the story:
So, I would like to tell all about it.
Hi
Has anyone managed to get a dark theme (Like Darcula or Obsidian) working on the Atelier plugin. The Eclipse themes apply to everything in the IDE except the editor window, so it kind of defeats the purpose. I've tried searching for one but so far no luck. I know you can set each colour individually in the settings but I'd like a single config I can load if possible.
Thanks
ˮ This is one of my articles which was never published in English. Let's fix it!
Hello! This article is about quite a practical way of developing InterSystems solutions without using the integrated tools like Studio or Atelier. All the code of the project can be stored in the form of "traditional" source code files, edited in your favorite development environment (for example, Visual Studio Code), indexed by any version control system and arbitrarily combined with many external tools for code analysis, preprocessing, packaging and so on.
For a solo developer developing web applications what will be the best technology to use IRIS or Studio with cache database and containers for deployment
The Atelier 1.3 stable release update site (https://atelier.artifactoryonline.com/atelier/updates/stable/1.3/) has been updated to 1.3.139 just in time for the holidays!
Most notably, take advantage of enhancements to compiling with InterSystems IRIS. You can find more information about the additions in the release notes here.
Hi,
I'm in the process of trying to convert my team to a Git-based workflow for source code version management (we use Ensemble and HealthShare, but build a lot of customizations on top). We are having a hard time working with Atelier in this regard for a few reasons:
Hello folks,
We’ve recently started using Ensemble as the engine of our business integration needs. While our team gain experience and knowledge in InterSystems platform, we have a consultant with expertise to help and guide the solution development process. But, one doubt remains: how to work with Atelier and Git in a collaborative way.
Hi,
I've been going through the instructions at https://download.intersystems.com/download/atelier.csp
Our development team are on the main hospital infrastructure so we need to whitelist any plugin repositories that Eclipse will need to get updates from.
I believe I need to whitelist the sites that host the both the Atelier and Eclipse plugin repositories:
1. Atelier repositories: stable and beta are currently hosted at https://atelier.artifactoryonline.com/
but that site has 'Deprecation of artifactoryonline.com domain' notice.
Deprecation of artifactoryonline.
The Atelier update site domain has changed from artifactoryonline.com to jfrog.io. JFrog Artifactory Cloud has deprecated the artifactoryonline.com domain in favor of jfrog.io. See their announcement for more details.
We've made these changes available from the beta channel for your convenience. Simply get latest updates from https://atelier.jfrog.io/atelier/updates/beta/latest/ and the deprecated URLs should be replaced with active ones.
These changes will be included in the upcoming stable update this Spring 2019 as well.
At the George James Software booth at Global Summit last year we took the wraps off the work we've been doing to make our popular editing and debugging tool Serenji available on the Visual Studio Code platform.
Rather than requiring you to pull code from your namespaces into local files, then push the changes back to the namespace to run it, you work directly in the namespace. In other words, the editing experience is like Studio rather than like Atelier.
As well as editing code you can also debug it directly from VSCode.
We're now looking for people to test a pre-release.
