How to develop in Logi

Today we will talk about InterSystems Reports. This is a BI system that provides you with tools to create static reports and export them to different file formats. We will see how it works using the DC Analytics public analytical sample as an example. In this article, we will examine how to familiarize yourself with the reports available in the repository, how to make a new report based on a ready-made data structure, and how to prepare a data structure from scratch.

Introduction - Analyzing Textual Big Data

Big Data for Enriching Analytical Capabilities - Big data is revolutionizing the world of business intelligence and analytics. Gartner predicts that big data will drive $232 billion in spending through 2016, Wikibon claims that by 2017 big data revenue will have grown to $47.8 billion, and McKinsey Global Institute indicates that big data has the potential to increase the value of the US health care industry by $300 billion and to increase the industry value of Europe's public sector administration by Ä250 billion.

The European Space Agency (ESA) has chosen InterSystems Caché as the database technology for the AGIS astrometric solution that will be used to analyze the celestial data captured by the Gaia satellite.

The Gaia mission is to create an accurate phase-map of about a billion celestial objects. During the mission, the AGIS solution will iteratively refine the accuracy of Gaia's spatial observations, ultimately achieving accuracies that are on the order of 20 microarcseconds.

Presenter: Luca Ravazzolo
Task: Define, provision, and configure a cloud infrastructure
Approach: Use open-source tools for DevOps automation

This session demonstrates how a cloud infrastructure of clustered servers can be defined, provisioned and configured efficiently with a simple yet powerful provisioning technology.

Content related to this session, including slides, video and additional learning content can be found here.

Presenter: Mark Massias
Task: Present complete, contextualized information to the people who must act as part of a (mostly) automated business process
Approach: Give examples of using InterSystems’ workflow engine.

More and more business processes are automated, but sometimes a person needs to make a decision. In some cases policies require an individual to approve an expenditure, or when loading data a person needs to sort out exceptions where the data in not clear. This session explains how to include people in business processes in a way that presents the user with a complete context for the decision they have to make.

Problem: Using human workflow to fix business process problems.

Content related to this session, including slides, video and additional learning content can be found here.

Presenter: Benjamin De Boe
Task: Perform advanced analytics on huge amounts of data
Approach: Use third-party analytics frameworks to leverage your entire clustered environment

In this session, we’ll explain what machine learning means and how it can help you gain insights in vast amounts of data, leveraging complex environments.

NewBie's Corner Session 25 Globals, Variables, and Arrays Part 1

Welcome to NewBie's Corner, a weekly or biweekly post covering basic Caché Material.

Globals, Arrays, and Variables

A thorough understanding of Globals, Arrays, and Variables is foundational for every Caché developer.

A Global may be:

Scalar (a single element), as in a Global Variable

Portal tip: Feel at home on the Home page

Until recently I didn't pay much attention to Portal's home page:

If it's not showing when you initially launch Portal you can easily jump to it using the button / tab at the top of the left-hand column of options. And later during your session, get there via the Home link that will be visible at the top of every page.

On the Home page the "Recent" section is automatically maintained for you.

Recently I was conducting a remote support session with a site. The desktop they were sharing with me was on a PC configured with German as the native language. Since my German is rather rusty, and virtually non-existent when it comes to computing terms, I was glad to be able to switch the Portal session into English.

This is done from the page that appears when you use the About link:

a.k.a.. "The World of Widgets Returns!" or "Paternity leave damages Instructional Series momentum"

In our last lesson, we combined 2 separate classes to appear as the same property. We now have the ability to Update our Widget catalog, but what if we want to Create a Widget? Thankfully, we've already done 90% of what we need, just by implementing Edits

This is a series of programming challenges for beginners and experienced Caché programmers.

For an introduction : go to article

The challenge today is about some basic cryptography : you will have to generate data for a one-time pad (OTP) (see for more info).

In this series of articles, I'd like to present and discuss several possible approaches toward software development with InterSystems technologies and GitLab. I will cover such topics as:

  • Git 101
  • Git flow (development process)
  • GitLab installation
  • GitLab Workflow
  • Continuous Delivery
  • GitLab installation and configuration
  • GitLab CI/CD
  • Why containers?
  • GitLab CI/CD using containers

In the first article, we covered Git basics, why a high-level understanding of Git concepts is important for modern software development, and how Git can be used to develop software.

In the second article, we covered GitLab Workflow - a complete software life cycle process and Continuous Delivery.

In the third article, we covered GitLab installation and configuration and connecting your environments to GitLab

In the fourth article, we wrote a CD configuration.

In this article, let's talk about containers and how (and why) they can be used.

Tabular data storages based on what is formally known as the relational data model will be celebrating their 50th anniversary in June 2020. Here is an official document – that very famous article. Many thanks for it to Doctor Edgar Frank Codd. By the way, the relational data model is on the list of the most important global innovations of the past 100 years published by Forbes.

On the other hand, oddly enough, Codd viewed relational databases and SQL as a distorted implementation of his theory. For general guidance, he created 12 rules that any relational database management system must comply with (there are actually 13 rules). Honestly speaking, there is zero DBMS's on the market that observes at least Rule 0. Therefore, no one can call their DBMS 100% relational :) If you know any exceptions, please let me know.

In my earlier article on Adopting Bitmaps I described the technique already.
Now you can find a code example also on Open Exchange.

This is a coding example working on Caché 2018.1.3 and IRIS 2020.2
It will not be kept in sync with new versions
It is also NOT serviced by InterSystems Support !

Hi Developers!

Suppose you published your application on Open Exchange with version 1.00. And then you've added a new outstanding feature and you make a new release.

You can also make a new release of your application on Open Exchange.

Why make releases on Open Exchange?

This the way for you to highlight the new features of your application. When you publish a new release the following happens:

Release notes appear on the News page of Open Exchange

The version of your app changes

Version History tab is updated

Enrich your analytics projects with NLP

According IDC, 80% of all data produced are NoSQL. See:

There are digital documents, scanned documents, online and offline texts, blob content into SQL, images, videos and audio. Imagine a Corporate Analytics initiative without all these data to analyze and support decisions?

In all the world, many projects are using techonologies to transform these NoSQL data into textual content, to allows analyze it. See:
