A “Dummy” SOAP Web Service

When dealing with SOAP in Caché, it is sometimes necessary to debug errors by directly accessing (and sometimes editing) the XML which is sent, i.e. the SOAP request and subsequent SOAP response. If you’re debugging a Caché web service, it is often useful to use a tool such as SoapUI (https://www.soapui.org/) to manually create and control the SOAP request, so that the effect of adjustments can easily be seen on the Caché web service.

I thought I'd share some issues I had today with Zen development in a custom component. Say we have created a Zen composite component with a few javascript methods that modify its child components. In order to modify these components, we can use something like the following method:

DC readers running Caché etc on Windows, configuring the Telnet service to use SSL/TLS, and using the Caché Telnet client (CTerm.exe) to make the Telnet connections may like to know that there's a fault in 2017.1 and 2017.1.1 which prevents CTerm.exe from establishing the secure connection.

Some things not in the original field test that you may want to check out include:

Project related quality assurance efforts have revealed a number of concerns for the current release of 2017.1.0 and 2017.1.1 on all OpenVMS platforms. In certain situations, the impact can be severe.

InterSystems has corrected a defect in applications that use Unicode character 223 (ß). This defect can result in incomplete query results, class compilation errors, and removal of custom SQL privileges.

This problem occurs on systems that are running or have previously run on:

• Caché and Ensemble 2018.1.0, 2018.1.1, and 2018.1.2
• HealthShare Health Connect (HSAP) 15.032 on Core versions 2018.1.0, 2018.1.1, and 2018.1.2
• HealthShare Health Connect 2019.1
• InterSystems IRIS data platform – all currently released versions
• InterSystems IRIS for Health – all currently released versions

The defect is triggered by data and component names containing Unicode character 223 (ß). In the versions listed above, an uppercase conversion incorrectly maps that character to Unicode character 7838 (ẞ). Applications perform this uppercase conversion using features such as $ZCONVERT and %SQLUPPER.

Problems can occur when accessing data or classes created or modified on a product with a different uppercase conversion than the one currently in use.
