Here is an option for your headspace if you are designing an multi-cluster architecture and the Operator is an FTE to the design. You can run the Operator from a central Kubernetes cluster (A), and point it to another Kubernetes cluster (B), so that when the apply an IrisCluster to B the Operator works remotely on A and plans the cluster accordingly on B. This design keeps some resource heat off the actual workload cluster, spares us some serviceaccounts/rbac and gives us only one operator deployment to worry about so we can concentrate on the IRIS workloads.

Catching WorkQueue Errors

I'm trying to catch some WorkQueue errors that are happening on 2019 but not on more recent versions.

I'm getting an error when trying to call a class method via a workQueue. It functions properly in 2024.1. When calling the method, it immediately errors. I have logging at the top of the method that never gets set.

The error being returned by Iris is simply an "ERROR #5039: An error occurred while calling function s %sc=##class(|"NS"|Path.To.Class).ClassMethod(.%p1,.%p2)"

The parameter counts match and are appropriate for the method.

Import CSV into CACHÉ

Here's a practical example of how to import data from a CSV file into InterSystems CACHÉ using ObjectScript
Assuming your CSV file is simple (e.g., comma-separated, with headers), you can use %Stream.FileCharacter to read it line by line and parse the data.

ClassMethod ImportCSV(filePath As %String) As %Status {
Set stream = ##class(%Stream.FileCharacter).%New()
Set sc = stream.LinkToFile(filePath)
If 'sc Quit sc

In IRIS, every time a request need to be processed, a specific IRIS process (IRISDB.EXE) need to be assigned to handle that request.

If there is no spare IRIS process at that time, process will need to be created (and later destroyed). On some Windows systems (especially with security/antimalware solutions being active) creating new processes can be slow, which can results in delays during peak times (due to inrush of requests).

Hi community.

I was wondering if it was possible to use something like EnsLib.SQL.InboundAdapter with tables in IRIS.

This library monitors when a record has been inserted into a table in an external database, so it requires a DSN to connect to that database.

My goal is to make a call to an external API that takes a long time, it could spend nearly an hour (or more) completing its processes, but I don't want to block the main process.

My use case is I want AI to extract six pieces of key information from medical visit notes.

It works okay with notes from Epic patient portals. I am struggling with one of my own visit Summaries. So far I have not been able to instruct ollama to give me a JSON response where it gave me what I am asking for.

My original medical_progress_notes_prompt was:

Medical progress note:
---
(document)
---

You are an expert in analyzing medical progress notes. Please carefully read the provided progress note above and extract the following key information:

I was wondering if someone could help me. In the past I have been able to call external Stored Procedures through a SQL Outbound Connection and have them return me the EnsLib.SQL.Snapshot to use within a BPL to extract data.

But this time instead of using a SQL Outbound BO to make the Stored Procedure call, I decided to create a Linked Stored Procedure through the %JDBC_Server to point to the Stored Procedure out on MS SQL.

However, I am struggling to get the code just right to return the Column value from the Linked Stored Procedure.

Hello there 🙋‍♂️,

I'm looking towards a functionality alike Python's difflib, but made with Intersystems products. I already know could embed Python code within IRIS but thought maybe there was a development already done for handling deltas, with a different approach or extra utils.

Even if I find such a library after comparing both might still go with difflib or any other more suitable. Intend to use it for a cross-environment checklist/check tool.

Please find below a sample of HTML rendering computed and made with difflib, with a few lines of code:

#InterSystems Demo Games entry

⏯️ MyVitals: Connecting Wearable Health Data to EHRs with InterSystems

MyVitals is a Personal Health Device Hub that bridges the gap between wearable health devices and clinical workflows. In this demo, we show how healthcare organizations can enroll patients, collect real-time data from personal devices via mobile apps, and seamlessly integrate that information into EHR systems using FHIR, HL7, and InterSystems technology. Built on IRIS for Health and FHIR repositories, MyVitals turns disconnected wearable data into actionable clinical insights—securely, efficiently, and at scale.

I like Application Error Log a lot, both for its full stack and a big list of variables. I'd like to "hack" this functionality and record the same in this log when a certain variable has a certain value. This quasi error should not be visible to the user, and it should not interrupt the application flow. Is that possible?

Throwing an error in a try-catch block does not record the error, tested. I am considering recording variables and the stack differently, I know how to do both, but that would miss the nice Application Error Log functionality.

Hi folks!

Sometimes, when designing a class method and feeding it with more and more useful features, very soon the number of parameters can reach 10 and even more.

It becomes pretty difficult for users of useful methods to remember the position of the important parameter, and it is very easy to misuse the position and transfer the wrong value to the wrong parameter.

Here is an example of such a method (I asked GPT to create a method with 20 params):

ClassMethod GenerateReportWith20Params(
    pTitle As %String = "",
    pAuthor As %String = "",
    pDate As %String = "",            // e.g. 2025-09-03
    pCompany As %String = "",
    pDepartment As %String = "",
    pVersion As %String = "1.0",
    pFormat As %String = "pdf",       // pdf|html|docx
    pIncludeCharts As %Boolean = 1,
    pIncludeSummary As %Boolean = 1,
    pIncludeAppendix As %Boolean = 0,
    pConfidentiality As %String = "Public",
    pLanguage As %String = "en",
    pReviewers As %String = "",       // CSV, e.g. "Alice,Bob"
    pApprover As %String = "",
    pLogoPath As %String = "",
    pWatermarkText As %String = "",
    pColorScheme As %String = "default",
    pPageSize As %String = "A4",
    pOrientation As %String = "Portrait",
    pOutputPath As %String = "report.pdf"
) As %Status
{

// implementation
}

I have a custom Buffer class which is designed to capture written/printed statements to the device, to be able to transform the captured text to string or stream type. I have used this in ObjectScript to capture ObjectScript write statements and return a string. I would like to try to use this with a [ Language = python ] method as follows. This class will be called by a scheduled task.
