When AMD published the x86-64 standard in 1999, little did they know they were inventing what would become the de-facto architecture for server CPUs. But the CPUs of today aren’t the same as ones produced 20 years back – as they have extensions for everything from Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) to Hardware-Assisted Virtualization (VT-d).
InterSystems would like to take better advantage of these new extensions in upcoming versions of InterSystems IRIS. While our compilers are smart enough to create optimized code for many situations, some optimizations can only be turned on by explicitly cutting off support for processors that do not have that instruction set. Additionally, we are finding it increasingly difficult to maintain older CPU models to test on.

InterSystems announces another developer preview release, as part of the developer preview program for the 2022.3. Many updates and enhancements have been added in 2022.3 and there are also brand new capabilities, such as the new FHIR SQL Builder, improvements for Columnar Storage, and support to SUSE 15 SP4 and Oracle Linux 9. Some of these features or improvements may not be available in this current developer preview.
You may have heard about our mg-dbx-napi interface for IRIS which provides insanely fast access from Node.js. If you've been following recent developments in the server-side JavaScript world, you'll be excited to know that mg-dbx-napi also works with Bun.js, the latter proving to be significantly faster than Node.js for many/most purposes.
Of course, if you're a Node.js user, you'll probably wonder how mg-dbx-napi compares with the Native API for Node.js that is included with IRIS.
I have created a simple package that allows the use of Cache with the Laravel Framework.
From my initial testing everything seems to be operating smoothly but I would like to appeal to the PHP users in the community to help me improve this package.
There is an exciting new Organizational Dashboard feature available within CCR. This new functionality allows users to get a wholistic view of the CCR usage within their organization, allowing things like:
See warnings for when organizational usage patterns need to be adjusted
View total CCR volume
Explore the most active CCR Systems
Identify DB version of various Environments
Discover which Systems are no longer active and are candidates for Depreciation
List the CCR Client Tool update dates to see what is out of date (to be released shortly)
Examine number of active CCR users, their CCR activity volume and which of them are Perforce users
Correct ItemSets which are troubled across all Systems

InterSystems has decided to stop further development of the InterSystems IRIS Natural Language Processing, formerly known as iKnow, technology and label it as deprecated as of the 2023.3 release of InterSystems IRIS. InterSystems will continue to support existing customers using the technology, but does not recommend starting new development projects outside of the core text exploration use cases it was originally designed for.
