InterSystems Python Binding Documentation.

Question Gautam Rishi · Sep 8, 2023

Hi all,
I am trying to execute a query like the below code.
set statement = ##class(%ResultSet).%New("some_class:query_method").   // here query method is empty and with rowspec some columname

statement.Execute(param1)

I want to fetch data type of column value returned from above. eg - Name - VARCHAR, amount - INTEGER etc.
How can I get it. Or if not possible directly. Is there any other way to validate or get datatype of values returned. Line we have type() in python3

Hi - has anyone successfully used the python binding on a mac. I carried out the install instructions per InterSystems documentation and it fails completely. 204 warnings and 9 errors. Obviously this was never tested by InterSystems. Is it even worth pursuing?

Thanks

The facial recognition has become the most popular method for validating people's identities, thus enabling access to systems, confirmation of personal and documentary data, and approval of actions and documents.
The challenges are related to performance when the database is very large, accuracy, and especially the privacy of biometric facial data. For these challenges, nothing is better than using InterSystems Vector Search, as it allows:

  1. Performing vector searches in millions of records with much faster responses than traditional methods.

Hi developers!

Recently we announced the preview of Embedded Python technology in InterSystems IRIS.

Check the Sneak Peak video by @Robert.Kuszewski.

Embedded python gives the option to load and run python code in the InterSystems IRIS server. You can either use library modules from Python pip, like numpy, pandas, etc, or you can write your own python modules in the form of standalone py files.

So once you are happy with the development phase of the IRIS Embedded Python solution there is another very important question of how the solution could be deployed.

One of the options you can consider is using the ZPM Package manager which is described in this article.

Many factors affect a person's quality of life, and one of the most important is sleep. The quality of our sleep determines our ability to function during the day and affects our mental and physical health. Good quality sleep is critical to our overall health and well-being. Therefore, by analyzing indicators preceding sleep, we can determine the quality of our sleep. This is precisely the functionality of the Sheep's Galaxy application.

For the upcoming Python contest, I would like to make a small demo, on how to create a simple REST application using Python, which will use IRIS as a database. Using this tools

  • FastAPI framework, high performance, easy to learn, fast to code, ready for production
  • SQLAlchemy is the Python SQL toolkit and Object Relational Mapper that gives application developers the full power and flexibility of SQL
  • Alembic is a lightweight database migration tool for usage with the SQLAlchemy Database Toolkit for Python.
  • Uvicorn is an ASGI web server implementation for Python.

Hi folks

I want to tell you how you can make your own assistant based on IRIS and OpenAI (perhaps you can then move to your own AI models)

iris-recorder-helper

This is the first time I have fully tried developing an application for IRIS and I want to point out steps that may also be useful to you

  1. Deploy to google cloud via github workflows (One container with an IRIS database and a web server in Python (flask)) and placing secrets inside the application not through an environment variable
  2. Record audio from the browser and send to the server
  3. Launching cron jobs via the ZPM module
  4. Integration

I'm exploring this right now: given a bunch of types defined as Pydantic models, how can I come up with an equivalent %RegisteredObject/%SerialObject and convert to/from (e.g., to support persistence and match validation as much as possible)?

People who know Python better than I do (e.g., your average undergraduate from this decade): is this a stupid idea or a cool idea? Has anyone else done this before?

Hi folks!

I have a need to use symilar to $property function from Python. Here is the code:

obj=iris.cls('some.persistent.class')._New()

for property, value in data.items():

 $property(obj.property)=value ; I invented this

How could I do this? Any trick?

For now I plan to implement a helper function in iris that I will call, but I doubt also how can I transfer oref to IRIS.

Thoughts?

Hi,

In my Iris Installation I cannot use python. When I try to install external libraries I get no OPENSSL_Applink:

$ pwd
/cygdrive/c/InterSystems/IRIS2/bin
$ ./irispip install --target ../Mgr/python/ pandas
OPENSSL_Uplink(00007FFBEC2F7068,08): no OPENSSL_Applink

I get the same error when I try to install a wheel file:

$ ././bin/irispip install ./intersystems_irispython-3.2.0-py3-none-any.whl
Processing c:\intersystems\iris2\dev\python\intersystems_irispython-3.2.0-py3-none-any.

Question Steve Pisani · Jan 29, 2022

Hi,

What is the Python syntax I can use from a ClassMethod (developed in an IRIS using embedded Python), in order to invoke another class method,

- in the same class; and

- in another class.

I see 'self' is synonymous to use $this (..) in ObjectScript, but these are ClassMethods I am invoking, and self did not seem to work.

thanks - Steve

All,

I've asked my teammate to open a WRC on this issue, but wanted to open the discussion to see if maybe we aren't the first people to see this issue.

The code we are deploying is a COS object with some Python methods. The code works fine locally on the developer's machine. However, when the business process runs in the server environment, we see the following when COS code attempts to call a [Language = python] method:

In component Event Log:
ERROR <Ens>ErrException: <OBJECT DISPATCH>ValidateSheet+9 ^ClientPortal.Process.FinalClientAdjustmentApprovalProcess.

At the recent virtual conference I saw the demonstration on being able to run Python within ObjectScript and run ObjectScript within Python thanks to a feature called Language Bridge.  Is this available now? If so, am I able to install it?  I am currently running HealthShare 2020.1.  I have a little bit of experience using Irisnative with Python but was intrigued with the more seamless-looking features offered by the Language Bridge.

Thanks for any insight.

I have a custom Buffer class which is designed to capture written/printed statements to the device, to be able to transform the captured text to string or stream type. I have used this in ObjectScript to capture ObjectScript write statements and return a string. I would like to try to use this with a [ Language = python ] method as follows. This class will be called by a scheduled task.

/// ObjectScript code which initializes buffer to capture statements written in nested method call
ClassMethod CollectStringFromBuffer()
{
    set buffer = ##class(CustomClass.Buffer).%New()
    do buffer.

Hi,

I was playing around with the python binding for caché (2018.1.4) and I ran into some problems.

When executing the class query "List" from SYS.Database the  pythonbind interface throws an exception, that seems to be caused by a mismatch of the defined SQL datatypes for this query and what is actually returned (or the lack of type conversion in the pythonbind interface).

Is this a known issue ? Are there solutions/workarounds for this,
Or is this a bug ?

The details:

When executing "List" from SYS.Database there is an error for every datarow fetched.
When executing "FreeSpace" from SYS.

Introduction

As the health interoperability landscape expands to include data exchange across on-premise as well as hosted solutions, we are seeing an increased need to integrate with services such as cloud storage. One of the most prolifically used and well supported tools is the NoSQL database DynamoDB (Dynamo), provided by Amazon Web Services (AWS).

The challenge for IRIS implementations, as it relates to Dynamo and other modern web services, is that there is no native support for interacting with Dynamo and AWS within ObjectScript.

Apache Superset is a modern data exploration and data visualization platform. Superset can replace or augment proprietary business intelligence tools for many teams. Superset integrates well with a variety of data sources.

And now it is possible to use with InterSystems IRIS as well.

An online demo is available and it uses IRIS Cloud SQL as a data source.

Following this GitHub we will see how the FIX protocol can be implemented easily using IRIS and Python.

If you don't have much time focus on the Send a Quote before the Order part near the end, as it will, in a matter of minute, tell you how to send a Quote Request followed by an Order Request and show you the result from the server, and that in no more than five clicks.

IRIS-fix-protocol

Implementation of the fix protocol using an IRIS python container for the initiator and a regular python container for the acceptor.
