IRIS 2010.1 brought us a new feature: %Net.WebSocket.Client

As a continuation of my series of WS Clients I just couldn't resist to try it.
Well, this is the result and it was rather simple in the end.

• After I succeeded in my personal fight against Windows Firewall ;-)

You basically need to prepare 3 classes:

• Credentials for User, PW, SSL
• an Event Listener
• the Client (Could be a .MAC routine as well)

The example uses the WSS.EchoServer (a derivate from former SAMPLES in Caché).
The default assumption is to have Client and Server on the same system & namespace.

In Caché you had an example of a WebSocket Server in namespace SAMPLES
With IRIS the samples are gone and require additional installation effort.

So I refurbished the code with some useful additions:

• independent of namespace
• timeout control from client
• readable communication log

This contains 2 classes:

• rcc.EchoServer.cls
• rcc.WSScsp.cls for testing. Called from Browser by (http://localhost:52773/csp/user/rcc.WSScsp.cls)

The server is essential for the 'native' WebSocket Client Demo

Couple days ago, a customer approached me with the wish to enhance their existing legacy application, that uses SOAP (Web)Services so it shares the same authorization with their new application API based on REST. As their new application uses OAuth2, the challenge was clear; how to pass access token with SOAP request to the server.

After spending some time on Google, it turned out, that one of possible ways of doing so was adding an extra header element to the SOAP envelope and then making sure the WebService implementation does what is needed to validate the access token.

GA releases are now published for the 2020.1 version of InterSystems IRIS, IRIS for Health, and IRIS Studio!

A full set of kits and containers for these products are available from the WRC Software Distribution site, including community editions of InterSystems IRIS and IRIS for Health.

The build number for these releases is 2020.1.0.215.0.

InterSystems IRIS Data Platform 2020.1  makes it even easier to develop and deploy real-time, machine learning-enabled applications that bridge data and application silos.

InterSystems has corrected a defect that can result in data integrity issues on systems using mirroring.

This defect affects:

• All currently released versions of InterSystems IRIS and IRIS for Health, except 2020.1
• Caché and Ensemble versions beginning with 2011.1.1
• All HealthShare products based on the above Data Platforms versions

This defect is more likely to be encountered in IRIS and IRIS for Health 2019.4. It is highly unlikely to have occurred on deployed systems running any other version.

I got the idea for this application, because for my work we have a process that currently uses legacy Vista code called MailMan to transfer files using email. I thought I could create a process in HealthConnect (IRIS Interoperability) to replace the need for having the legacy code. I have seen File Passthrough and TCP Passthrough Operations that can transfer a stream (file content) into a file or through TCP connection. I did not find Email Passthrough Operation, so I decided to create it. It receives request with a stream that has the content of the file.

This code snippet changes all passwords in a system to a specified string. The two literal strings at the beginning of the snippet can be adjusted to edit the system or password string. The class method "test" runs the code:

Starting in March 2020, Microsoft plans to release a series of security updates that will cause Windows Active Directory (AD) servers to reject unencrypted simple binds. For more details on the changes to Active Directory, see Microsoft’s Security Advisory ADV190023.

Instances of all InterSystems products using LDAP with Windows AD servers for user login can be impacted if they are not already properly configured to use TLS/SSL. The impact is not limited to instances running on Windows versions.

I hope you already know one of my projects Cache Blocks Explorer. I've recently renamed it to Blocks Explorer.

For the recent contest, I've added a new feature, the ability to generate a static picture of any Cache or IRIS database. Like below. Where unique globals have a unique color. This is how looks like inside 9.5GB database. Where 1 pixel represents one block. By link on image you will get even bigger image, with more detalization.

InterSystems IRIS 2020.1 brings a broad set of improved and new capabilities to help build important applications. In addition to the many significant performance improvements accrued through 2019.1 and 2020.1, we are introducing one of our biggest changes in recent SQL history: the Universal Query Cache. This article provides more context on its impact to SQL-based applications at a technical level.

InterSystems has corrected two defects that, in rare circumstances, can result in data integrity corruption after running global compaction, database compaction, or database defragmentation. InterSystems recommends avoiding these utilities until after applying the corrections listed below.

1. The first defect is caused by database compaction, defragmentation, or global compaction, and can result in database corruption. If you have used one of these utilities on a database, InterSystems recommends that you perform an integrity check on it. This will identify any data corruption that has occurred.
