Hi developers. I often miss the ZPM program on a clean system. Nothing complicated? Take and install. And in one line? Especially in a docker container. There is a solution. I'm very happy with it;) Maybe the line can be shortened?

set $namespace="%SYS", name="DefaultSSL" do:'##class(Security.SSLConfigs).Exists(name) ##class(Security.SSLConfigs).Create(name) set url="https://pm.community.intersystems.com/packages/zpm/latest/installer" Do ##class(%Net.URLParser).Parse(url,.comp) set ht = ##class(%Net.HttpRequest).%New(), ht.Server = comp("host"), ht.Port = 443, ht.Https=1, ht.

Hello community! I'm working on an internal innovation effort at InterSystems considering our documentation/resources around upgrades. As part of this, I'd love to have your answers to any/all of the following questions, either via comment or (if you prefer your answers to be more private) direct message.

Thanks in advance!

What InterSystems products + versions are you running? ($zv is ideal.)

What makes you decide to upgrade?

What are your blockers to upgrading?

What is your process for evaluating and planning a possible upgrade?

What documentation resources do you use?

With System Alerting and Monitoring (SAM) being deprecated in the near future..

  • What is everyone's go-to for Monitoring IRIS?
  • What is readily available?
  • What is the cost surrounding it?

Just trying to get ideas floating around of what we might need to start looking at to satisfy IT leadership.

Thanks

Scott

Hi Developers! As part of an internal company hackathon at InterSystems, I'd love community feedback on a few topics. Feel free to chime on any/all of these via comment or direct message to me.

  1. If you were to launch a new application/project, what problems would you need to solve right off the bat? What technologies would you use? Why?
  2. What are the most common and repeated problems that you find yourself solving?
  3. Where in InterSystems' technologies do you spend most of your time?
  4. In a solution you have recently implemented, how were your time/efforts allocated? (e.g.

Good morning, evening, night,... wink

A small reflection/question for today... it's true that new IRIS for Health (I4H) releases are more and more powerful each time regarding FHIR capabilities. Nowadays it allows us to consume FHIR resources with extrem easiness, we can connect with end-points in external FHIR servers very easily and make I4H act as passthrough or consume their resources... or, even more, we can define, configure and run a FHIR repository in, literally, less than 5 minutes.

I am trying to move us to Securing the Management Portal using Apache and the Web Gateway.

Our Development environment/namespace only has 1 server, but both Test and Production have failover/DR mirroring containing 3 servers for Test, and 3 additional servers for Production.

  • Development - 1 server
  • Test -2 server's setup for Failover, and 1 Async DR Mirror
  • Production - 2 servers' setup for Failover, and 1 Async DR Mirror

In Test and Production, the mirroring is setup using an Arbiter and the VIP address is controlled at the Hardware level.

We are very eager to learn what kind of feedback you might have for InterSystems.

We hope you had a chance to download and install one of the kits that show how the new process works. If not, you still can do it, following the instructions on these posts:

Our target release is InterSystems IRIS 2023.2 (and InterSystems IRIS for Health 2023.2) and will be available in a few months.

Currently, the SQL privileges (SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE) are managed at the tables level, which can be very tedious when you have to administer many roles in an organization, and need to keep them sync with a constantly evolving data models.
By managing privileges at the schemas level, will allow to give SELECT and other DML privileges to *all* or *several schemas* to a role|user, fixing the need to manually synchronize the new tables|views to the roles.

If you agree, I invite you to vote for this idea.

Hi everyone,

This one had me breaking a sweat 😅

When a SOAP request has a %Stream.GlobalBinary property, it fails to serialize to base64 when stream is larger than ~43MB with

ERROR #6301: SAX XML Parser Error: <MAXSTRING>xeWrite+7^%occXMLInternal

Unless you enable the following parameters :

Parameter BASE64LINEBREAKS = 1;
Parameter USEPPGHANDLER = 1;

The first one instructs %SOAP.

The IRIS Management Portal is localized (translated) for some (many?) languages and the language used by the Management Portal interface is determined by the browser settings, often derived from the OS settings (can be changed).

This means that if a user, like me, want to use ONLY the English version of the Management Portal, each and every time you login you need to change the language. VERY annoying.

I know I can change the language configured in Browser, BUT, I want to use English for the IRIS management portal non for all my internet activity!

I am currently adding a field to our Existing messaging from Epic, however there might be a possibility I need to back load data into the Ancillary system. While I have the previous messages that can be sent, they do not have this additional field that I am adding to the message.

I can do a lookup against Epic Clarity SQL Database; however, I don't want to throw a wrench into the workflow if the system cannot connect to the Epic Clarity SQL Database.

  • What is the best solution for this?

In a healthcare setting we've an Ensemble namespace through which passes a key HL7 feed (the ADT feed from our PAS). It is split up, transformed and passed on to multiple downstream systems. We consider the feed going to each downstream system an interface. Each interface is developed as separately as possible - typically as a separate branch of our git repo (which we access via VS Code).

All this is fine till we try and name the version(s). We both want to know what is currently in live (the sum of all the interfaces in the namespace) and know what version each  specific interface is at.

Hi Developers!

Want to raise security discussion today!

Let's discuss how InterSystems security for applications works. In general, the concept is clear: we have Resources (what to protect), Roles which combine a set of privileges and accesses to Resources and Users which can have this or that Role.

But there is also a concept of Application which also could have a Role.

So you either provide a Role for a User or for an Application.

What do you use in production? What is your strategy and why? Pros, cons?

Hello

We are pretty new to Ensemble and we are considering on using a default setup for our production. Let me explain the situation. We have one sender that sends HL7 ADT messages to our system. We have 60+ other systems that need to recieve ADT messages. We where thinking on a few ways on how to do the setup.

Setup1:

We create one big ADTRouter that contains a first mapping. The result is send to another big ADTRouter that contains all the filters/expressions and mappings for the recieving systems.

In the past, I've created custom SQL operations, but now I had something trivial to do, so I decided to take EnsLib.SQL.Operation.GenericOperation out for a spin. There's no example in the docs, so it was a little tricky. Here's what I ended up doing:

In my external database, I have 'mytable' with two fields 'id1' and 'id2'. Here are the pertinent Business Operation settings:

SQL: select id2 from mytable where id1 = ?
Input Parameters: [1] *id1
RequestClass: Ens.

Hey everyone,

I'm diving deeper into Caché ObjectScript and would love to open a discussion around the most useful tips, tricks, and best practices you’ve learned or discovered while working with it.

Whether you're an experienced developer or just getting started, ObjectScript has its own set of quirks and powerful features—some well-documented, others hidden gems. I’m looking to compile a helpful set of ideas from the community.

Hi, everyone,

We in InterSystems Learning Services are compiling and reviewing different non-InterSystems materials for learning various technologies. To this end, can I ask:

-What are your favorite learning resources (books, courses, etc) that have helped you with the development and implementation of the FHIR standard and why do you like them?

Thanks, Jamie Kantor

Hello Community,

I'm currently planning a system upgrade from Caché (2018.1.8.766) to InterSystems IRIS (2024.1). The environment consists of one database server and three application servers connected via ECP.

I’m considering two possible upgrade approaches:

  1. Upgrade the application servers to IRIS first.
Since IRIS is expected to be backward-compatible with Caché over ECP, the database server would remain on Caché temporarily.
  2. Upgrade the database server first,
followed by upgrading the application servers, as they don’t store data.

When using VS Code client-side editing in combination with a file-based revision control system such as git, I find activities such as branch switching and moving/renaming classes and packages a bit tedious, since you to maintain the connected namespace in sync manually.
I am not aware of a built-in way to do this with VS Code Extension. Just added an idea to the portal that is about adding some kind of mechanism to do this automatically, please do not hesitate to comment, amend and vote for idea DPI-I-608  😊

I know the next ones:

1. Place all different settings in environment variables. You have a different .env file for each environment, and you must add some code to Production for reading and setting these values. It's good for deploying into containers, but challenging for management when we have a large production. I mean, we have many settings that can vary depending on the environment: active flag, pool size, timeouts, and so on. Not only endpoints.

2. My own case.

Is anyone using the IPM client (e.g., running commands like zpm "install somepackagename") on an IRIS version earlier than 2022.1?

We're thinking about raising the minimum supported version so we can use Embedded Python in IPM. I'm curious if this would impact anyone. Of course, you'd be able to continue to use an earlier version of IPM.

Hey everyone.

As I have been working with IRIS (nee Caché) for some time now, I decided to take a look at how I manage things like functions and scripts that may not belong to a single namespace or environment, but should still have a home.

I have taken to creating a github repo where I can keep track of a single .cls of "general functions" that I can then drop into an environment when required.
