I'm pleased to announce the latest version of extensions for ObjectScript. Just a month has gone since my latest update, and I already have something new to show.

Important. In this version connection to the server will be disabled by default. You have to activate connection through the settings:"objectscript.conn.active" = true.

I'm pleased to announce the latest version of the renewed for ObjectScript, which is now available with a lot of new features.

This new extension is a fork of previously developed extension in different repository originally started by @Oleg Dmitrovich.

Hi Community!

We try a new approach to Developer Community YouTube Videos called "Coding Talks"!

Coding Talks is a short video in which the developer demonstrates a particular feature or functionality of InterSystems Data Platforms which he/she uses to in coding. Typical format: the face on side and editor with ObjectScript.

Check this video I made by myself participating in Advent of Code 2018 and coding with InterSystems ObjectScript in VSCode.

As a developer, usually I'm concerned about how my code health is, and how the other coders code can affect to my own work.  And I'm quite sure most of us feel very similar.

In our company we use a Static Code Analysis tool to analyze code for different languages to ensure we are writing high quality and easily maintainable code by following a few best practices in terms of code structure and content. And the question was: why should be different for Caché ObjectScript language?

Hello, guys.

We have recently created a syntax highlighting for COS for Atom text editor. You can find it on https://github.com/intersystems-ru/atom-language-cos

Installation:

  1. Download or clone this repository
  2. Copy everything to ~/.atom/packages/
  3. If you have your Atom editor open, then you need to reload it (enter  Window: Reload in Command line)

It's been few days since the release, so please if you find a bug, let us know through creating an issue or forking and making a pull request.

P.S. After it gets more or less usable, we will use this syntax as a basis for GitHub highlighting for COS.

Hello community!

Heretofore is announced a new project which aims at providing a usable library for both running unit tests and collecting code coverage information at the same time:

https://github.com/litesolutions/cache-utcov

I shamelessly admit that this is my first project written in ObjectScript; the only source file right now barely loads a %Studio.Project instance on a given namespace and fails ungracefully on failure (it HALTs; meh); and even on success it will not even list the items correctly... Well, that's part of the learning curve.

This project is of course not "innocent": for CachéQuality, we want that information (the result of unit tests and coverage information). But we believe that it is in the interest of a lot of people that a package exists which provides such information in as generic a way as possible

Hello,

I hereby announce the creation of an IRC channel dedicated to Caché development:

* network: FreeNode (connect to server: irc.freenode.net)

* channel: ##cos (yes, two hashes).

Topic is anything related to Caché development in spite of the name (and the fact that of Caché development I only really know about COS anyway), so sorry in advance for the restrictive channel name :)

Waiting for you here! (my nick is idletask on freenode)

Side note: that would be a good opportunity to launch a project of an IRC bot in COS... My current skills however would make that project not come to fruition before at least two months :p

Hello community!

Two new rules have been implemented:

OS0061: unsafe namespace switch

This rule detects when the body of a method contains two or more of the following statements:

  • set $namespace = something, or
  • znspace something.

If this is the case, it then checks whether there is a new $namespace prior to those two declarations; if not, it raises a warning.

List of issues currently found here:

https://demo.cachequality.com/issues/search#severities=CRITICAL|rules=cachequality%3AOS0061|resolved=false
