Only a few days to go until the Global Summit! George James Software will be on hand to talk about any projects you may have on the horizon, such as application development, data and platform migration, system integration, training, and support – we can work with you to find practical and maintainable solutions that support the growing needs of your organization.

We're also running a User Group Session on Wednesday, July 22nd at 12pm. It's a great opportunity to find out more about our tools and ask us (and current users!) any questions.

I am happy to share with you my first experience of using a docker container version of IRIS for Health to explore your interest in using or having a trial by taking the advantage of a docker container that is lightweight, and easy to deploy. This cookbook will go through the implementation steps using the GitHub repository called ENSDEMO written by Renan Lourenco.

Hi folks

I want to tell you how you can make your own assistant based on IRIS and OpenAI (perhaps you can then move to your own AI models)

iris-recorder-helper

This is the first time I have fully tried developing an application for IRIS and I want to point out steps that may also be useful to you

k9s - Manage Your IrisClusters In Style

K9s is a terminal-based UI (aka kubectl clown suit), to manage Kubernetes clusters that drastically simplifies navigating, observing, and managing your applications in K8s, including Custom Resources like the InterSystems Kubernetes Operator (IKO) and ArgoCD Applications. If you are about to take your CKD, CKA, or CKS, leave k9s well enough alone for awhile as the abstraction to kubectl will become the standard for navigating the cluster and you will undoubtedly become estranged to the extended flags of kubectl and bomb the exam.

InterSystems FAQ rubric

There is no need to recompile the routines after the version upgrade, but since the version update overwrites %SYS, user-created INT and OBJ format routines (*.INT,*.OBJ) in %SYS will be deleted. Therefore, you need to be careful.

MAC, INT and OBJ routines with the following names are not deleted.

%Z*.INT, %z*.INT, Z*.INT,z*.INT
%Z*.OBJ, %z*.OBJ, Z*.OBJ,z*.OBJ

Please note that classes/CSPs need to be compiled after upgrading.

In ObjectScript you have a wide collection of functions that return some value
typically:

set variable = $somefunction(param1,param2, ...)

There is nothing special about that.
But there is a set of functions that I classify as LEFT SIDED
The specialty of them is that you can use them also on the left of the equal operator
as a target in the SET command:

set $somefunction(param1,param2, ...) = value

Save a file using %Net.HttpRequest

This code snippet allows for a file on the web to be saved into the file system. Specify the server and GET request, as well as the directory the file should be saved to. The class method "test" runs the code:

Class objectscript.saveFileHTTP Extends %RegisteredObject
{
    classmethod test() {
        Set httprequest = ##class(%Net.HttpRequest).%New()
        Set httprequest.Server = "docs.intersystems.com"
        Do httprequest.Get("documentation/cache/20172/pdfs/GJSON.pdf")

        Do $System.OBJ.Dump(httprequest.HttpResponse)

        Set stream=##class(%FileBinaryStream).%New()
        Set stream.Filename="c:\test.pdf"

        Write stream.CopyFrom(httprequest.HttpResponse.Data)
        Write stream.%Save()
    }
}

Here's a link to the code on GitHub

It's been a long time since I didn't write an update post on IoP.

image

So what's new since IoP command line interface was released?

Two new big features were added to IoP:
- Rebranding: the grongier.pex module was renamed to iop to reflect the new name of the project.
- Async support: IoP now supports async functions and coroutines.

Hi developers!

Suppose you have a Github repository with ObjectScript classes but without a Docker environment.

Recently I published a repository with a set of files that form a universal Docker and VSCode environment to let you either import and run your repository in InterSystems IRIS Community Edition on Docker or turn your repository into Docker and VSCode environment for InterSystems IRIS Community Edition.

So in one sentence:

Unpack these files in your folder and you have the Docker and VSCode environment for your InterSystems IRIS ObjectScript application!

See the details below.

Hi Community,

We are not using github or any source safe till now. We have ensemble hl7 interfaces (business services, processes, operations)available in production. Now we want to deploy these interfaces to a brand new cloud server with iris instance.

Here in current production we have studio access but new cloud server iris we have only vscode access.

I have exported all the classes from current production using Studio and I have exported xml file with me.

Tuples ahead

Overview

Cross-Skilling from IRIS objectScript to Python it becomes clear there are some fascinating differences in syntax.

One of these areas was how Python returns Tuples from a method with automatic unpacking.

Effectively this presents as a method that returns multiple values. What an awesome invention :)

out1, out2 = some_function(in1, in2)

ObjectScript has an alternative approach with ByRef and Output parameters.

Do ##class(some_class).SomeMethod(.inAndOut1, in2, .out2)

Introduction

InterSystems would like to optimize IRIS to take advantage of modern CPU instruction set extensions. That’s great for product performance, but how do you know if your CPU will still be supported for new IRIS builds? Here’s how to know your CPU’s microarchitecture family as well as how to find out your CPU’s specific instruction set extensions.

InterSystems FAQ rubric

If a relationship is set and there is a large number of n in a 1:n ratio, a large amount of memory may be consumed due to sequential processing of the relationship.

After referencing a many-sided object in a program and internally swizzling it, simply releasing the variable containing the OREF (deleting it, setting another value, etc.) will not free the many-sided object and the relationship object. This is the cause.
