InterSystems IRIS is a Complete Data Platform
InterSystems IRIS gives you everything you need to capture, share, understand, and act upon your organization’s most valuable asset – your data.
As a complete platform, InterSystems IRIS eliminates the need to integrate multiple development technologies. Applications require less code, fewer system resources, and less maintenance.

If you work with interoperability productions of InterSystems IRIS or Ensemble, no doubt you are familiar with the Message Viewer page. The page supports filtering messages according to filter criteria you enter in the Basic and/or Extended Criteria sections. Extended Criteria conditions are specified as property-operator-value triples. Once you click Search button, such triples become WHERE clause conditions of a generated SQL query executed against message header/body tables.

As a side note, one can view recently generated message queries by following the instructions listed in the doc.

Most of us are more or less familiar with Docker. Those who use it like it for the way it lets us easily deploy almost any application, play with it, break something and then restore the application with a simple restart of the Docker container.InterSystems also likes Docker. The InterSystems OpenExchange projectcontains a number of examples that run InterSystems IRIS images in Docker containers that are easy to download and run. You’ll also find other useful components, such as the Visual Studio IRIS plugin. It’s easy enough to run IRIS in Docker with additional code for specific use cases, but

Hi community,

I need to write an SQL query  to fetch a random record from a table, that table has millions of data.

In postgresql, for example, there is a RANDOM() function to do something like that:

SELECT column FROM table
ORDER BY RANDOM()
LIMIT 1

Is it possible to do something like that in Caché?

Thanks in advance

Hi Developers,

Please welcome the new video specially recorded by InterSystems Product Manager @Bob Kuszewski for the 3rd InterSystems Online Programming Contest on InterSystems IRIS Native API:

⏯ Using the IRIS Native API GitHub Template

What’s the contest about?

In the last year, InterSystems added and expanded Native APIs for Java, .NET, Python, and Node.js. The Native API provides high speed access to globals, the ability to instantiate and use ObjectScript objects, and fine-grained control over transactions.

InterSystems has corrected two defects that affect online backup of very large databases. Backups taken via external methods, such as snapshots or direct file copies, are not affected. These defects exist in all released versions of all InterSystems products.

The first defect only affects databases with more than 231 blocks. It results in a degraded database after restoring from an online backup. For example, databases that have a block size of 8 KB (the default) are only affected if they are larger than 16 TB. The correction for this defect is identified as RJF437.

Note (October 2022): yape has been deprecated and replaced by YASPE, there is no more development on yape.

Note (June 2019): A lot has changed, for the latest details go here

Note (Sept 2018): There have been big changes since this post first appeared, I suggest using the Docker Container version, the project and details for running as a container are still in the same place  published on GitHub so you can download, run - and modify if you need to.

Previously I showed you how to run pButtons to start collecting performance metrics that we are looking at in this series of posts.

##Update: May 2020.

Since this post was written several years ago, we have moved from Caché to IRIS. See the comments for an updated link to the documentation for pButtons (Caché) and SystemPerformance (IRIS). Also, a note on how to update your systems to the latest versions of the performance tools.

Hi Developers!

As discussed in previous parts of Package Manager stories to turn your IRIS application into a deployable package you just need to introduce the module.xml file into the root folder of the repository and describe all the resources.

I’m pleased to introduce you to a new project template on Open Exchange which contains examples of how to make different types of resources of your InterSystems IRIS application a part of the ObjectScript package and so make the deployable ObjectSctipt package.

Let's see how you can describe your application resources using this template project as an example.

See the details below.

I've created a new repository that I will use for providing examples of various scenarios and use cases for QEWD

https://github.com/robtweed/qewd-microservices-examples

Initially it contains a example of a scenario I'm often asked about: a set of REST APIs, with JWT support, implemented as a set of QEWD MicroServices, each of which uses Cache or IRIS running on a Windows system.

What I've provided is a detailed, step-by-step guide (with detailed explanations) of how to set up such a system.

The example shows a use case of REST APIs to:

- authenticate / login

Allow limited durability for demo and development IRIS-Docker-micro-Durability During development of a container based demo I found the need to access a fresh docker
an instance of IRIS image (e.g intersystems/iris-community:2020.2.0.199.0) over and over.
To bypass loading my code repeatedly, I developed this workaround.

Docker support

The principle of a persistent IRIS database outside the container is unchanged.
But now the whole setup is moved into Dockerfile and docker-compose.yml

Prerequisites

Make sure you have git and Docker desktop installed.

Using the IRIS native API for Node.JS was the opportunity to present
a MicroService operating in a Docker container.
A demo video is now also available to watch the demo in operation.

Instead of a utility you call directly on your IRIS host you now send a work-packages
to the MicroService as would typically do with System Interoperability (aka.ENSEMBLE):
of course, you have the option of more than one WebSocket Server.
Once the WebSocket Client Service has done its job you get back the result from it.

Introduction

In the first article in this series, we’ll take a look at the entity–attribute–value (EAV) model in relational databases to see how it’s used and what it’s good for. Then we'll compare the EAV model concepts to globals.

Sometimes you have objects with an unknown number of fields, or perhaps hierarchically nested fields, for which, as a rule, you need to search.

Question Nagarjuna Reddy Kurmayyagari · May 6, 2020

After I loaded the intersystems/iam:0.34-1-1 image in local, I am trying to do the next step of configuration.

2) Configure your InterSystems IRIS instance

2a) Enable the /api/IAM web application
  2b) Enable the IAM user
2c) Change the password for the IAM user

Do we need to change these settings in iris.cpf file? any inputs where we have to configure? I have IRIS 2019.1.1 installed in my machine.

Thanks,

Nag.

Hi again!

I logged into the demo IRIS again, and for some reason, today, I had an "Classpath is incomplete" warning message. The classpath is defined under quickstarts-multimodel-java.  Here is the contents of the file :
