Studio is a client application, built using Caché objects, that runs on Windows-based operating systems. It can connect to any Caché server (compatible with the current version of Studio) regardless of what platform and operating system that server is using.

Question Kevin Furze · Mar 13, 2018

Cache 2016.2.1.603 for windows)

I created a few classes and one class called jitPod.Api.toServer.additionalConsignments and realised even before I did any work,, that the word "Api" (note capital A) needed to be "api" (all lowercase)

it would not allow copying the class to the lowercase name because the directory already exists (i understand that)

so I exported the class to an XML, edited the xml to become lowercase "api" , deleted all the classes (and directory name) and re-imported the class.

On one HealthShare servers (RH Linux, 2017.1.1), I am not able to login to Studio for this server. When I select the server connection from the notification tray icon, choosing Remote System Access, Studio, then the server, the error I getting is:

Unable to log on to server {Server Name}

Communication link failure

I've tried using both DNS name and IP address, same result. Using Atelier, I am able to connect to the server using the same DNS name and Web Server Port that I'm trying in Studio.

Hello, everyone,

I'm trying to find solutions to a problem that's becoming quite boring.
On only one namespace, the sudio is very slow.
The studio freezes completely for 5-10 seconds when I save or compile a class. Sometimes it also freezes for no apparent reason at a random time...
It stops when I change namespace...

Do you have any idea what that could be?

Thank you in advance

Hello guys,

I have been playing around with the deployment tools from Ensemble (mostly based on this article https://docs.intersystems.com/latest/csp/docbook/DocBook.UI.Page.cls?KE…;, but so far the one thing I still couldn't figure out is how to group files into a single "Studio project file".

By using the deployment tool UI, supposing that I want to add a bunch of custom files to my deployment file (XML), it's practically impossible because I need to add one by one.

Hi community!
Is there any way to create new method keywords?
For example:

ClassMethod TestOne() [ MyKeyword = MyValue ]
{
    // Implementation
}

Another doubt (maybe another topic)
How can I generate new methods at compilation time for the same class?
I tried method generators, but It only gets compiled when I compile for the second time.
I also read this comment but I could not find out how to generate the methods and get them compiled in the first compilation.

For example:

Class util.

Hi,

I've started active use ISC VS Code extensions about a half year ago, seem to be used to use, and started to enjoy them :)

The documentation promises the

    • integration with server-side source control etc

We were happy enough not to use, while used Studio Source Control menu to run some internal code checkup procedures. Is there any functional equivalent for this in VS Code: can I add custom menu items that should be backed with ObjectScript code to be started on server?

Hello,

Last weekend we've updated our Caché version to

Versie: Cache for Windows (x86-64) 2018.1.1 (Build 312U)

I'm using Studio to develop. I've been using the built-in debugger and it has been working nicely. But now, since the upgrade, I'm getting this error when trying to debug any routine or class method:

Executing ##class(Blue.App.Handler.Adsolut).TestConnection()
<COMMAND>zDebugStub+30^%Debugger.System.1

This is the code for the classmethod I got the error on;

Class Blue.App.Handler.

Hello everybody,

I would like to export project contents using Visual Studio Code, as well as I do with InterSystems Studio.

However, while attempting the export through the InterSystems extension I get the following error:

- There are no folders in the current workspace that code can be exported to.

These are the step to reproduce my error:

  1. Create and save a new VSCode workspace
  2. Open a local directory
  3. Go to the InterSystems extension
  4. Open "Projects" panel and right-click on the project you want to export
  5. Click on "Export Project Contents"

Anyone can help me solving this issue?

Here is a screenshot from my 2016.2 FT instance of Studio and Ensemble:

I don't recall having seen the highlighted "+" suffix on document names previously. Who can tell me what it denotes?

I originally posted this in the Field Tests group but it turned out to be a 2016.1 feature that I hadn't previously noticed. So I subsequently moved the post to the Cache group.

Hello.
I would like to know if there's a way to batch a certain amount of writes done inside a job and display it sequentially on the main process.
My idea is to prevent the main process from freezing while displaying the batched data. The main process's device could be

the terminal or the Studio output.

%Studio.Debugger does something close to that when printing the output from the debug target process.
$System.Event.Signal($zparent) doesn't signals the parent if a device is open. So I can't create the batch buffer along, because I can keep the buffering device open and notify the main process.

Hi,

I am running terminal on Cache on a Mac High Sierria and going through the ObjectSript tutorials.

However there is no instruction on the Intersystems website as to how to open Studio.

Does anyone know how this is done?

Thanks

It's well-known among Studio users that besides few predefined code fragments (for ObjectScript, Basic, MV Basic) it's possible to add user-defined code fragments. I found it rather convenient to use them as patterns that help to follow some conventions (internal standards) of writing, say, methods descriptions.

But I didn't find a way how to share these patterns, except dumb copy-pasting. Did somebody succeed with this task? Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, I need to determine the best way to split a class containing multiple methods(about 20), into multiple classes in which each method is in its own class. I am wondering if there is another way other than manually creating the different classes, and copying each method into each class. Doing this in Intersystems Studio.

I'm experiencing an issue while compiling code in Visual Studio Code with "cuk" qualifiers.

When I try to compile, the following message appears after a while:

In VSC, the "cuk" qualifiers are always used as default and the following message is shown in the Output panel of VSC when a compilation is successful:

I'm unsure if it is possible to replace the cuk qualifiers with something else.

When you export entities like classes, routines, globals in Cache Studio, you usually end up with XML files that looks like this :

<Export generator="Cache" version="25">

1
        <Super>%CSP.Page</Super>

After attending the Intersystems DACH conference in Germany at the end of last November and taking part in a few workshops about containers and microservices I took the plunge and installed Docker on home Windows PC, downloaded IRIS 2018.2 preview and got that up and running. Good stuff and I gave myself a pad on the shoulder at that point.

But then it dawned on me that I couldn't edit code using Studio as Studio is Windows only and while I'm running on a Windows desktop the Docker image itself is Linux based.

Question Thomas Chericka · Dec 15, 2016

Hi,
I've organized my repository using TortoiseSVN. I was careful to use only svn commands while creating my file structure. Now all Subversion commands are working at the command line but not from within my IDE (Cache Studio). Basically I'm trying to write a plug-in for my IDE to use Subversion from within the Studio. Trying to integrate Subversion into my IDE, something like Subclipse, but for Cache Studio. The error occurred after reorganizing my code into directories. For example at the command-line, svn info and svn status and all other commands work perfectly. All Subversion commands work at the command prompt!

Question Maarten Van den Vreken · Jul 18, 2017

Hi all,

I was wondering if there is any way to trigger the compilation of a class based on the compilation of another (unrelated) class. For example:

Class 1 = test.class

Class 2 = test.class.type.one

Class 3 = test.class.type.two

Every time class 2 or class 3 is compiled in Studio I would like to have class 1 automatically compiled as well.

The reason I need this is because class 1 has a method with CodeMode set to objectgenerator which generates some code based on what is found in classes 2 and 3.

In the wew versions of IRIS the Studio is going to be deprecated. In the Studio when editing classes there is an option to add information at package level, with the option "Package Information" that shows this dialog:

In VSCode there is the option to add/edit this package information? If no, how can one add/edit this information without the Studio?

Thanks.

Question Hendri Schoeman · Jun 4, 2018

Hi all,
I hope this is the right forum to ask this type of question, but I'm running out of ideas.
For reasons beyond my control, we run a version of Intersystems Caché (2013.1) that is not supported by Atelier. As such, I use Caché Studio to do my development.
The issue I have is, I don't run Windows or MAC, but Linux (Ubuntu 18.04 in my case). I've successfully managed to get Studio working using Wine and pretty much everything is usable.
There is just *one* issue which neither me or my peers can solve. If you hover over a line in the code editor, a tooltip reading 'First record' appears.

Question Colin Brough · Apr 30, 2025

We have classes in a Production environment that are causing us some issues - example attached.

When we export them from the production environment the XML contains a snippet like the following:

<UDLText name="T">

//Property any As list Of %XML.String(XMLNAME = "any", XMLPROJECTION = "ANY") [ SqlFieldName = _any ];

</UDLText>

When imported and compiled into an Ensemble instance this class works as expected.

When viewed/edited in a development environment we run into issues - the presentation is similar with both Studio and VS Code.
