I would say it is a post of pain after years of using InterrSystems IRIS Docker images in many projects.

And I hope InterSystems will hear me and do something with it.

We have a lot of issues with Docker images, but I see no progress in solving them.

• containers.intersystems.com - any new releases substitute previous versions, makes build useless
  • ARM64 images have separate names, and it makes a pain to use them
• flags in iris-main, appears and disappears from version to version, which may fail the start the container
• healthcheck does not work as expected

Thanks to all of you who start the development with InterSystems IRIS from the basic development template!

Recently, thanks to @Dmitry Maslennikov's contributions I've updated the Dockerfile to make the development simpler, images lighter and the building process faster. And it looks more beautiful too ;)

Here is what changed:

Very recently Docker showed a very new feature added to their Docker Desktop tool. It was a good way to start using Docker on macOS and Windows, and they also released the same tool for Linux as well. And new feature Extensions add an ability to extend this GUI application with some extra abilities from extensions.

Thanks to @Yuri Marx we have seen a very nice example for DB migration from Postgres to IRIS.
My personal problem is the use of DBeaver as a migration tool.
Especially as one of the strengths of IRIS ( and also Caché) before is the availability of the
SQLgateways that allow access to any external Db as long as for them an access usinig 
JDBC or ODBC is available. So I extended the package to demonstrate this.

This is yet another short post that is intended to simplify developers' life. Now we'll talk about how to make GitHub run unit tests with every push to the repository by adding just one file to the repo. For free.  On Github Cloud. Sounds great, isn't it?

It is possible and very easy to do. Credit goes to @Dmitry Maslennikov (and his repo), ZPM Package Manager, and GitHub Actions.  Let's see how this all works!

We are experience this with our own web app and even the demo/template here: intersystems-community/iris-fullstack-template: This template shows you how to build, test and deploy a simple full-stack application using InterSystems IRIS REST API (github.com)

When changes are made to CSS or HTML files, we can see the changes are saved to file in the Docker container by visiting the command line.  However, after refreshing, clearing cache, etc. the changes don't appear on the web application in the browser.  Viewing the source css in the browser, we see it's the old file.

I am new to Intersystems, in our project we are directly connecting to the server (environment) using  Intersystems VSCode extensions and publishing our changes from local machine. This is not the way we usually do as development process.

Is it possible to implement continuous integration ? So that developers can check-in their code in GIT Hub and can integrate Jenkins and automate the deployment?

Could you please help me on this ?

When creating a service with DOCKER SERVICE CREATE we cannot pull from the intranet/local image repository.
Both PULL and PUSH can be handled from the intranet repository.

I have recently started making more use of Docker Desktop on my Windows 11 workstation, particularly in conjunction with VS Code's Remote - Containers extension and the iris-python-template repo from @Guillaume Rongier

Sometimes the container would start smoothly, but other times it would fail and report being unable to use a port.

Eventually I tracked the problem down. The Windows NAT Driver service apparently uses an OS facility to reserve a large range of ports.

Here's what an admin-level command shell showed when the container wouldn't start:

I am working on a setup using the iris docker image (iris:2020.4.0.547.0).  I need the timezone to be a different timezone than the host.  Is there a way to do that by passing in an options / variable?

I am running InterSystems iris 2021.1 from the container and I have version 2020.1.1 is installed locally. While running studio locally I am getting below error message:

"Version mismatch. Studio version 2020.1.1 unable to connect to server version 2021.1
Upgrade to a later version of the client to resolve this error"

We are developing some containarized cloud application level iris instances and using CPF Merge to do a lot of the initial buildout for the iris instance (i.e.  create databases, namespaces, map globals/routines, ecp setup, etc...)

1. Deploy it then in Kubernetes cluster
2. Let your pal run the image of your public repo without building it locally.

You can push the image to Docker Hub Registry or Github Registry.

And thus some solutions or samples can be built with InterSystems IRIS and one or two packages installed.

I want to share with you iris-docker-zpm-usage-template - a template that can be used exactly for this purpose.

You can create a new repository or clone it and change the package name to the one that is needed for you and once the docker image is built you get an InterSystems IRIS in a docker container with a package (or set of packages) you like.

I'm trying to get IRIS to run on a new MacBook with a Apple M1 Pro chip. Local installs did not run, so I switched to docker containers. When I execute following command "docker run --detach --publish 52773:52773 --volume /Users/joost/Docker/iris/data/dur:/dur --env ISC_DATA_DIRECTORY=/dur/iconfig --name iris21 --init store/intersystems/iris-community:2021.1.0.215.0" an image is pulled and a container is created but the IRIS instance does not run. The log gives me the following output:

In this article, we will run an InterSystems IRIS cluster using docker and Merge CPF files - a new feature allowing you to configure servers with ease.

On UNIX® and Linux, you can modify the default iris.cpf using a declarative CPF merge file. A merge file is a partial CPF that sets the desired values for any number of parameters upon instance startup. The CPF merge operation works only once for each instance.

Our cluster architecture is very simple, it would consist of one Node1 (master node) and two Data Nodes (check all available roles). Unfortunately, docker-compose cannot deploy to several servers (although it can deploy to remote hosts), so this is useful for local development of sharding-aware data models,  tests, and such. For a productive InterSystems IRIS Cluster deployment, you should use either ICM or IKO.
