In software engineering, continuous integration (CI) is the practice of merging all developer working copies to a shared mainline several times a day.

Question Michael Derr · Dec 4, 2025

We are a group of interface analysts in a healthcare setting, running IRIS for Health 2024, having upgraded over time from an old ENSEMBLE environment.  We have been working on a wish list of development goals, but are having trouble finding the correct, best practice method/path for getting to what we envision.

Current state:  We run IRIS for Health on a Redhat 8 virtual machine.  We run Interoperability productions (IE.cls) out of 6 namespaces.  We have a dev/test box and a production box.

Hi all,

I'm developing a Azure Pipeline to automate the deployment process in Caché.

I use selfhosted agent to execute code im my Caché Server.

My problem is that cession execution via cmd always terminate with exit code 1 and the pipeline finishes with error, but the execution in Caché is fine, the method executed returns $$$OK
I use the following line to execute a class in Caché.
C:\InterSystems\Cache\bin\csession.exe CACHE -U  %RELEASE_TRIGGERINGARTIFACT_ALIAS% "##Class(sgf.pipeline.DeploymentManager).

Hello everyone,

I am attempting to implement continuous integration using Docker with Caché 2018.1, and I am in the process of creating an image for our client. I have already installed Caché 2018.1 on the RedHat server, but I am working on a script to create the database and namespace. For the database, I used the following code:

do ##class(SYS.Database).CreateDatabase("/usr/cachepoc/cache2018/mgr/poc/")

However, I have encountered some issues with this code.

I was watching this video about IRIS and GitHub and all is clear to me how it works and how code from each branch is getting deployed to each IRIS environment but the process to deploy is manual. My question is how can I, if possible, to utilize gti-source-control from GitLab CICD pipeline to deploy code automaticaly after PR approval instead going to the Git UI?

Thanks

Hello,

I read a great article by @Timothy Leavitt here, where he wrote about unit testing and test coverage with ZPM. I am facing a slight problem and was wondering if someone has some insight into the matter.

I am running my unit tests in the following way with ZPM, as instructed. They work well and test reports are generated correctly. Test coverage is also measured correctly according to the logs. However, even though I instructed ZPM to generate Cobertura-style coverage reports, it is not generating one. When I run the GenerateReport() method manually, the report is generated correctly.

I now get the following error. these tests used to run fine.

LogStateStatus:0:TestCoverage.Manager:OnBeforeAllTests:ERROR #6060: Somebody else is using the Monitor. <<==== **FAILED**

Can someone please point me in the right direction?

I have followed the Article: Continuous Delivery of your InterSystems solution using GitLab, On our own Linux environment it works well but when I try to run it on a clients windows server; and the following command is run by the runner

irissession IRISHEALTH -U TEST "##class(isc.git.GitLab).load()"

we get the following "error"

<NOTOPEN>>

I do not know why this happens, it does look like it has something to do with user rights but I am totally lost at this point as we have done everything I can think off relating to grant correct access etc.

I am new to Intersystems, in our project we are directly connecting to the server (environment) using  Intersystems VSCode extensions and publishing our changes from local machine. This is not the way we usually do as development process.

Is it possible to implement continuous integration ? So that developers can check-in their code in GIT Hub and can integrate Jenkins and automate the deployment?

Could you please help me on this ?

Hello everyone!

When running the command

do ##class(TestCoverage.Manager).RunTest(,"/nodelete",.userParams)

I now get the following error.

ERROR #5002 : ObjectScript error:  <FUNCTION>zStart+45^%Monitor.System.LineByLine.1  <<==== **FAILED** TestCoverage.Manager:OnBeforeAllTests:::

These tests run fine in Studio.

Also the TestCoverage works fine on all the other namespaces. So far i'm experienceing this problem on this 1 namespace.

The solution of stopping the LinebyLine monitor doesn't help like in the case of ERROR #6060

Can someone please point me in the right direction?

Hi, I am new to IRIS and We are planning to setup a CI pipeline on AWS VM deploying the iris data platform container. I am trying to find out which folders needs to be inside the source control and where (exact folder) the updated code needs to be pulled in the container. I would be much obliged if anyone cant point the CI CD related documentation.

Thanks,

Hi, everybody,

I've been reading some posts in the community but I haven't been able to come to a conclusion. Here's my point.

I have a cache code, and following this guide https://cedocs.intersystems.com/latest/csp/docbook/DocBook.UI.Page.cls?… but I can't understand how to run this from jenkins for example, without using the console, and thus automate the process. That is to say, if it were possible to do it, what steps should I follow.

Thank you very much

Hi ,

I am stuck with unit  test failure with intersystem . In case of unit test failure, the build in jenkins is succeding while the build in jenkins should fail in case unit test failure .

In cache programming i am using %UnitTest.Manager class and DebugRunTestCase method within it. I'm able to link studio with jenkins. I wanna fail my build in jenkins, if any of the test cases fails. Could anyone help?

Hi community.

I'm trying to create a "setup" method to be called on a batch script but i'm getting the error <INVALID ARGUMENT> when I pass a string as an argument to this method.

The idea is to call the method with a folder as the parameter, for example:

##class(test.MyClass).MyMethod("D:\path\to\my\file.json")

My class (just for example)

Class test.MyClass

{
ClassMethod MyMethod(pFilePath)
{
Write pFilePath ,!
}
}

I'm using cmd as follows:

D:\>csession CACHE20172 -U %SYS ##class(test.MyClass).

Question Brian Chen · Jan 27, 2019

Hello,

I am trying to copy an xml file generated on an Apache server into the Jenkins workspace post-build. I was thinking to use a 'send files over ssh' post-build script, but have not done this before and do not know how to refer to the file location on Apache server vs on Jenkins.

For example, if I want to copy from Apache's location of: "classes/UnitTest/Results.xml" into Jenkin's workspace: "/ReportFiles/Results.xml",

How does the script differentiate between whether the location address refers to the Apache server or Jenkins workspace?

Or is there a better alternative way to do this?

Hi everyone

I'm coding a script in order to validade an installation package following the steps:

- Create environment { }
Try{
    - Import classes
    // Do some stuffs
    - Compile Classes
}Catch (ex){
    // oops ...
}
- Destroy environment { }

In some specific cases I will need to terminate the current process and start a new one with some new parameters.
With any code inside my try catch block, whenever I terminate the process I receive a RESJOB and it works perfectly.
When my job is running a compilation ($SYSTEM.OBJ.Compile(.

hi, new here, and new to cache and deepsee.

i've been trying to setup a copy of our production server so we can use it for testing/development.

i did a full  backup. moved it to the new server.  ran the DBREST command.  got it to restore but seems like permissions get all messed up. and it just generates a bunch of errors.

is there an easier/better way of doing this?

Let's say I want to execute  this cache script (saved as test.txt) from OS terminal:

zn "USER"
write 1
zn "%SYS"
write 2
halt

Executing the following command in a terminal:

csession cache < test.txt

Would yield this output:

$ csession cache < script.txt

Node: gitlab-test, Instance: CACHE

USER>

USER>
1
USER>

%SYS>
2
%SYS>
Job succeeded

Is there a better way to run these scripts?

Currently I have two problems:

  1. I have several variables defined in my bash script, what's the best approach to pass them into Caché?

Question Ankita JAin · May 31, 2017

Is there any methods/ways through which will get to know whether any of the Unit Test cases is/are failing in the Terminal with status as either 0 or False in case of Failure & 1 or Ture in case of Test Passes (we are getting an url of the csp page with the report which has the passed failed status) as we need to send this failure status to Jenkins for the Build to Fail (where in we have acheived this part in making the build failure/success based on  harcoded boolean)

Question Evgeny Shvarov · Apr 1, 2017

Hi, Community!

Is there an option to get an archived file of globals in one command. Say for:

Do $System.OBJ.Export("Class1*D.GBL,Class2*D.GBL","data_gbl.xml")

get something like:

Do $System.OBJ.Export("Data*D.GBL","data_gbl.gz","gzip")

And also to have the convenient one click way to  import it to the namespace via terminal or Control Panel?

If anyone already has this module, share please?

It would be very convenient for import/export/continuous integration purposes cause globals can be really heavy.

Recently I started working with GitLab - GitHub self-hosted foss alternative. So far so good, liked the UI,  ease of administration, and available functionality (I was on Phabricator previously,  and still use it for repo mirroring).

GitLab has GitLab CI  (GitLab Continuous Integration) which looks promising (pluggable docker/vm/ds to run code) , but I wondered if someone uses it already and can share scripts for it?

Just curious how many companies use in their work Docker containers, I mean not only with InterSystems products. And if such companies exist, which of them uses docker and doesn't  use it for InterSystems products  by some reasons. What are the reasons? For companies which already uses InterSystems in containers, how do you use it? Development environment, testing or even in production ?

And if you don't use but thought about it, what are the reasons which stop you.

Question Paster-Bachar Gadi · Sep 29, 2016

Hi All

I have a question on working with dev and prod environments.

After project is ready and signed, I usually migrate outcome to production using the export tool from the studio.

For changes/adding to existing projects, I exclude the production class (as it has some different values differing the dev from the live) and I add the differences manually afterwards.

My questions on migrating are:

Does anyone has (to share) his/her best practice steps on "migrating dev to prod"?

Does the export action (in management portal) is better to use?

Thanks

Gadi

Hi!

I am about to configure a server with continuous integration for a client. I found that our Russian friends have again come up to the rescue and developed not one, but two continuous integration tools for Git and Caché:

My question is simple: What are the most important differences between the two and which one is going forward so I can choose the right one?

Kind regards,

Amir Samary
