Hello Community! As another great year comes to a close, I wanted to notify you about an upcoming change to the vscode-objectscript extension. In an effort to reduce the extension's footprint, simplify maintenance, and improve ease of use, InterSystems plans to remove some rarely-used configuration settings. Our telemetry tells us that these settings are changed from the default by fewer than 2% of users. However, before finalizing the removal I would like to give any users of these settings the opportunity to explain why a setting shouldn't be removed.

For developers building external applications, especially those using familiar technologies like C#, ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) is a crucial, standardized bridge to any relational database, including InterSystems IRIS. While InterSystems offers its own native ADO.NET provider, the ODBC driver is often the most straightforward path for integration with generic database tools and frameworks.

Here is a step-by-step guide to getting your C# application connected to an IRIS instance using the ODBC driver, focusing on DSN-less connection string.

Step 1: Install the InterSystems IRIS ODBC Driver

The InterSystems ODBC driver is installed by default when you install InterSystems IRIS on a Windows machine.

  • If IRIS is on the same machine: The driver is already present.
  • If IRIS is on a remote server: You must download and install the standalone ODBC client driver package for your client operating system (Windows, Linux, or macOS) and bitness (32-bit or 64-bit) from WRC website if you're a client or by installing Client components and copying ODBC driver.

Once installed, you can verify its presence in the ODBC Data Source Administrator tool on Windows (look for the InterSystems IRIS ODBC35 driver).

Hi Guys,

I get the below error when trying to compile an imported class in IRIS, it compiles if I remove [ Collection = list ] so not sure about the use of [ Collection = list ] and if removing it would affect anything and its just a duplication?

I have set up an ODBC driver for InterSystems and would like to set up a linked server. This all works except I cannot see the columns details. If I access the database from excel I can get the columns and types of the various tables

Any help or instructions would be appreciated

Terry

What is MQTT Broker

Hi Guys,

I'm a newbie in term of MQTT clients & brokers, and I've created a MQTT adapter to connect to a broker and I asked our system admin for the user/pass and the URL and this where we got stuck.

The admin is saying that all he has is IP address to the PEM key to the server itself, so my question is, is the broker the server itself and the url is the url to the server or is the Broker an application (eg. Mosquito) that runs in a server and if that's the case and if its Mosquito, where do I find the connection details to it (user/pass & URL) ?

Thanks

⏯️ IRIS As Healthcare Data Infrastructure

Data, as a new type of production resource, has received increasing attention. The current economic development situation has raised many new demands for how to create usable value from data at scale. In reality, siloed systems, inconsistent data semantics, and difficulties in data deployment have greatly hindered the development of the data economy. InterSystems IRIS, as an integrated data platform, provides many capabilities to help enterprises and healthcare institutions open up data and leverage data value. In this demonstration, we will describe what challenges the data economy poses for data production, and how IRIS addresses these issues using its rich and powerful features.

Hi Everyone!

We have an existing process (running in FIFO order), all business hosts having pool size=1.

Currently we are reading records from a file (one record at a time) then that record goes to business process for further processing and finally through the business operation. As of now we are using synchronous call in our existing code. Before processing the last record we are using hang of 50 seconds because we need to initiate a batch once the processing of last record is finished.

Using IRIS as a vector database

InterSystems IRIS embedded vector search capabilities lets us search unstructured and semi-structured data. Data is converted to vectors (also called ‘embeddings’) and then stored and indexed in InterSystems IRIS for semantic search, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), text analysis, recommendation engines, and other use cases.

This is a simple demo of IRIS being used as a vector database and similarity search on IRIS.
