Earlier this year I announced availability of a VS Code extension for coding in ObjectScript, Embedded Python or SQL using the notebook paradigm popularized by Jupyter. Today I published a maintenance release to correct a "getting started" problem.

Visual Studio Code (VS Code) is a free source code editor made by Microsoft for Windows, Linux, and macOS. It provides built-in support for JavaScript, TypeScript, and Node.js. You can add extensions to provide support for numerous other languages including ObjectScript.
The InterSystems extensions enable you to use VS Code to connect to an InterSystems IRIS server and develop code in ObjectScript. The Visual Studio Code Documentation is an excellent resource on VS Code, so it is a good idea to be familiar with it.
If multiple InterSystems products are installed on the same system, the latest version of the InterSystems ODBC driver among the installed products will remain registered in the driver manager.
You can change to any driver by changing the registry entry below.
Please note that running RegFiles.bat does not change the ODBC driver.
InterSystems IRIS provides a complete application development environment for building sophisticated data- and analytics-intensive applications that connect data and application silos. It is designed to work with all of the common development technologies in an open, standards-based fashion and supports both server-side and client-side programming.
When developing interoperability productions, it might be useful to have settings outside of a Business Host. The primary reason is when you need a setting to affect several different Business Hosts and want to guarantee that the value is the same. While System Default Settings can be used to propagate settings for Business Hosts, they can be changed by overriding the value on a BH level (although the advantage of Business Host settings set via SDS is that they don't need custom code which our current approach requires). Another reason is when you need to affect non-setting parts of the Business Host configuration (PoolSize, Enabled, etc.)
What is Unstructured Data? Unstructured data refers to information lacking a predefined data model or organization. In contrast to structured data found in databases with clear structures (e.g., tables and fields), unstructured data lacks a fixed schema. I'm proud to announce the new release of iris-pex-embedded-python (v2.3.1) with a new command line interface.
This command line is called iop for Interoperability On Python.
First I would like to present in few words the project the main changes since the version 1.
A breif history of the project
Version 1.0 was a proof of concept to show how the interoperability framework of IRIS can be used with a python first approach while remaining compatible with any existing ObjectScript code.
What does it mean? It means that any python developer can use the IRIS interoperability framework without any knowledge of ObjectScript.

Hi - Recently I have been investigating an annoying situation whilst editing ObjectScript classes or routines in VSCode.
What was happening to me was, as I was typing in lines of code into my class (for example, adding a new Method, or changing the Class signature, or a block of code), this would quickly get syntax checked, re-formatted, and compiled - inevitably, (since I would be mid-way through my typing), this would generate compilation errors.
The InterSystems ObjectScript language does not allow you to define methods of the same name with different arguments. It is generally classified as a programming language called a dynamic language.
In ObjectScript, you can freely control which arguments are used when executing a method, so unlike languages such as Java, which are not dynamic programming languages, there is no need to strictly distinguish methods by the number of arguments at the compilation stage.
For volatile tables (tables with many INSERTs and DELETEs), storage for bitmap indexes can become inefficient over time.
For example, suppose that there are thousands of data with the following definition, and the operation of bulk deletion with TRUNCATE TABLE after being retained for a certain period of time is repeatedly performed.
In my previous articles, I described my Command Line Extension to NativeAPI. Of course, this is also available for any other NativeAPI package. So I created this example as a demo for the actual Java Contest. The package contains also an IRIS server in Docker for the demo It is evident that it also works with any remote IRIS server. You just have to provide it with my NativeAPI CommandLine Extension.
How many times do we find ourselves rebuilding, copy-pasting, adapting, Business Operations that make calls to REST services, and only adapting one or another part of the final code. This is annoying a lot. To resolve this our inconvenience, I present to you Interopway REST, a set of classes (a micro framework) that allows us to just add Business Operation to Production and use it.
In a previous question, I have illustrated a few problems using Embedded Python interactively as you would do from Docker console or IRIS terminal. Investigation of the causes brought a rather clear picture. It's a classic impedance mismatch
In the last article, we talked about a few starters for Django. We learned how to begin the project, ensure we have all the requisites, and make a CRUD. However, today we are going a little further. Sometimes we need to access more complex methods, so today, we will connect IRIS to a Python environment, build a few functions and display them on a webpage. It will be similar to the last discussion, but further enough for you to make something new, even though not enough to feel lost.
Following one package from the last contest I met a strange problem. There was the requirement to install jupyter-notebook I work on Windows and there was some old Python installed No big surprise: Installation of jupyter-notebook failed Therefore, the latest version of Python was installed fast.
For containers in ECS files are not editable if the file size is larger than ephemeral storage free space. For example if I have 4Gb free I can't edit 8Gb file. But if I start container with 50 Gb of ephemeral storage (24Gb free) I can edit my 8Gb file just fine.
Who has never been through in the following situation:
I have an application/global configuration that is not and cannot be mapped to a class, but it is necessary to provide a stored procedure so that a report tool using ODBC/JDBC or even using the resultset of IRIS itself, can access the data and generate the report.
In IRIS we have a functionality that allows us to create a query that can be accessed internally and also be exposed as a stored procedure, with our own logic. That functionality is Custom Class Query.
In the next few weeks, my coworkers are planning to start using VSCode to code with InterSystems' products. Among the many advantages of that, I would emphasize being able to connect with other technologies, such as GitHub, with ease. Besides, VSCode also offers an extensive extensions store, where you can find many free add-ons that make coding faster and more efficient. Last but not least, to conquer the heart of every developer, it is open source.
In this article, I'm excited to introduce my latest application, Journal File Indexer. The development of this application is rooted in the portal idea DPI-I-270.
In short, this application lets you load and index a log file in a database.
Why?
If you've ever used the log file search function in the management portal, you may have encountered a timeout error or even a blank page. This problem usually occurs when searching a large journal file. Journal File Indexer solves this problem by considerably increasing the speed of searches once the file has been loaded into the database.
Another problem arises during the restoration process. When searching for global entries in a log file to restore old or new values, the management portal doesn't have this specific functionality. A routine must therefore be coded to achieve this. Journal File Indexer comes to the rescue, incorporating a restore function!
