This post provides useful links and an overview of best practice configuration for low latency storage IO by creating LVM Physical Extent (PE) stripes for database disks on InterSystems Data Platforms; InterSystems IRIS, Caché, and Ensemble.

Consistent low latency storage is key to getting the best database application performance. For applications running on Linux, Logical Volume Manager (LVM) is often used for database disks, for example, because of the ability to grow volumes and filesystems or create snapshots for online backups.

So I've got the IRIS AMI spun up in AWS EC2; it seems to be running fine.  
I've added an EBS volume to it for persistent storage, and now I'm pondering how to make it actually do something useful.  

What's the best way to do deploy code to this instance?  I can think of a few ways to do it, but what's the least painful way?  Push my code to an S3 bucket and figure out how to load it at system start?  Github project?

Implemented features :

In the previous article, we discussed how to set up IRIS on k8s cluster with high availability, based on the distributed storage, instead of traditional mirroring. As an example, that article used the Azure AKS cluster. In this one, we'll continue to explore highly available configurations on k8s. This time, based on Amazon EKS (AWS managed Kubernetes service) and would include an option for doing database backup and restore, based on Kubernetes Snapshot.

Or you only compile on Test site and copy cache.dat to a Production?

We are seeing more and more customers being lured with latest infrastructure technologies, particularly Composable Infrastructure. Coming with all sorts of data center consolidations and costs savings.

Question is: are there any concerns for HealthShare/TrakCare being run on these platforms or things to look out for? Anyone out there, already on these platforms?

To be more specific this is HPe Synergy with 480 Compute blades booting as bare metal.

The goal is to load a configuration document during zpm install at the configure phase.

For this exercise, a template repository is available here (this is based on objectscript-docker-template ).

• Set Globals mapping for dc.PackageSample.*.
• Add a user named SQLUserRO with read-only SQL role access.

I'm almost running out of disk space so I want to move 1 DB to a different hard drive.  
It's a rather simple but lengthy action during a shutdown of IRIS.  
But is this somehow possible under runtime in a stand-alone installation?  
I'm looking for kind of a "local drive failover"  
note: Mirror or Shadow is not an option.  

ZPM-Registry – is the package registry for the ZPM package manager.

As you probably know, the ZPM package manager is configured by default to work with the public community registry https://pm.community.intersystems.com/, which currently has more than 150 packages published.
You can install and configure your own registry for use in your organization.

Starting from version 1.1.2, zpm-registry includes the Proxy feature.
Now you can link your own registry to another (for example, the public registry of the community).

Recently we released the updated version 0.1.3 of ObjectScript Package Manager (ZPM) which comes with the support of simplified ObjectScript sources folder structure.

What 'simplified' does mean?

Before 0.1.3 ZPM expected the following structure:

This small tutorial described how to „register“ the ADO.NET Database Provider (Driver) for InterSystems IRIS and InterSystems Caché on a Windows machine.

I have a need to create a custom deployment package for our production. I can't do a full deployment of the production so I need to create a custom deployment package that will add our new classes, business processes, rest end points and transforms. I would like for the production to add and configure the business services, process and operations as well.

Does anyone have an example for doing this?

Most CloudFormation articles are Linux-based (no wonder), but there seems to be a demand for automation for Windows as well. Based on this original article by Anton, I implemented an example of deploying a mirror cluster to Windows servers using CloudFormation.I also added a simple walk through.

Update: 2021 March 1 I added a way to connect to Windows shell by public key authentication via a bastion host as a one-liner.

But as you already aware ZPM packages are always deployed with source code.

Do you think we need to add the option to deploy without source code - e.g. if you want to deploy a commercial package?

Will you develop commercial modules if there will be an option and deploy it with ZPM?

Each IRIS installation has a /lib folder which is intended for 3rd-party libraries being used in the solution.

For IRIS installation the typical path is:

/usr/irissys/lib/

In ZPM the shortcut is ${libdir}.

What is the macro or internal function to obtain it programmatically?

Here I want to suggest to you one of the approaches - deploying global data using the ZPM package manager.

I am investigating creating builds from TravisCI, which will pull the source from github.
This will also involve a code review process, pull request, etc.

It will be done in Multiple phases. The first one will not involve automated testing using TravisCI yet. It will only involve travisCI pulling the latest code from github and creating a release for testing(A deployment file in a format that can be loaded by Ensemble0)

What I want to know is: Is there a way or tool available to take the source files and create an XML file which can be used for deployment to Ensemble?

Hi all, I am having problems trying to get Docker to run correctly on my Linux Mint machine.

I did the following:

1. Installed Docker.

docker --version

Docker version 19.03.6, build 369ce74a3c

docker-compose -v

docker-compose version 1.17.1, build unknown

2. Downloaded zip from https://github.com/intersystems-community/iris-fullstack-template/tree/42f9c174a9a4e63cb5eb3eb646abf3930a6e4d31

and unzipped it

3. Entered the following command:

docker-compose up -d

This generated the following error:

ERROR: Version in "./docker-compose.yml" is unsupported.

I'm trying to build my project on a Linux machine using Docker.

In my development environment, I use Windows 10 Pro with Docker Desktop version 2.3.0.5. Everything works fine, and the docker-compose build runs flawlessly.

But, when I tried to run the same project in a Linux. 
Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS (GNU/Linux 5.4.0-1025-azure x86_64), docker --version
Docker version 19.03.6, build 369ce74a3c

I'm getting the following error: 
ERROR: Service 'iris' failed to build: OCI runtime create failed: container_linux.go:349: starting container process caused "exec: \"/irissession.

I work on deploying IRIS inside Docker container. I really like %Installer class can automate many steps. I want to establish an ECP connection to a mirror database and then define a remote database on the application server. I have already seen we can create local database and namespace in %Installer. What code is needed to establish ECP connection?

The InterSystems IRIS offer many options to deploy digital services running in IRIS. Your option will depends if you use IaC (my preferred option) or no.

If you use IaC, the options are:

1) IKO - InterSystems Kubernetes Operator: this is InterSystems extension to Kubernetes container/docker management and orchestration tool that facilitate create IRIS clusters in the Kubernetes. See more info in: https://docs.intersystems.com/irislatest/csp/docbook/Doc.View.cls?KEY=AIKO.
