Advent of Code is a series of 25 small programming challenges, it's an ideal way for beginners to start learning a computer language, and for advanced people to sharpen their programming skills.

There are small and bigger puzzles, which you can solve typically in half an hour to a few hours. (Looking at the leaderboard, the top aces can do them in less than 10 minutes.)

Advent of Code is created by Eric Wastl, you can find all info on https://adventofcode.com/.

This is a lesson learned, which I would like to share with community.

Recently I ran into an issue, where I was using %ConstructClone and it kept cloning extra records, which were not needed. The record for which I was trying to run a clone had many-to-one relationships.

The solution to this issue was using param -1. If you run %ConstructClone(-1) it will not clone relationships, but rather just clone single oref as desired in this case.

I hope this information helps someone who is working with similar records.

Hi,

I have wrote an article about how to install the intersystems cache driver in a Docker container, and then deploy it using Azure Functions:

How to run a (Python) Azure Function as a Docker container & Deploy it using Bicep | Victor Sanner

This might be useful to others, especially the dockerfile which I have copied below. This builds a debian docker container and installs the Intersystems Cache driver, which python can then use :)

Come and say hi to us in the Partner Pavilion at the Global Summit!

We’ll be showcasing our Serenji on-the-spot debugger which has undergone some big changes in the last year—users can now enjoy a seamless debugging experience with zero configuration, along with taking advantage of the latest features in VS Code itself, enabling users to smoothly identify and quickly fix errors in your code, contributing to the production of quality, maintainable code.

If you want to see Serenji in action look for us in the Partner Pavilion, we'll be on hand to show you a demo. Prospective users are also welcome to join our User Group Session during the lunchtime session on Wednesday, June 22nd. Email laurelj@georgejames.com to let us know you'll be there.

I have been trying to do a backup from tape using the D ^DBREST command. I am not able to connect to the tape drive, that recently got replaced. It is configured and I can see it with IBM's ITDT. I did a test and it came back with the error below:

Are there any suggestions on how to fix this or what commands to use to get this opened and connected? I do appreciate it.

InterSystems FAQ rubric

For volatile tables (tables with many INSERTs and DELETEs), storage for bitmap indexes can become inefficient over time.

For example, suppose that there are thousands of data with the following definition, and the operation of bulk deletion with TRUNCATE TABLE after being retained for a certain period of time is repeatedly performed.

Cache SQL Storage Mapping

The attached zip file contains a bunch of examples of Cache SQL Storage mappings that I have done over the years.

If you have existing globals and want to expose them via Objects or SQL you need to setup Cache SQL Storage mapping. If you do not see an example that helps with your case send me an example and I can help you out.

Hello everyone,

I have an issue related to Visual Studio Code and its InterSystems extension when exporting routines from the database to the file system.

The code entered via the terminal editor is encoded in DOS code page 437, but when I export it to my file system, even if I set the file opening to DOS CP 437, the accented characters which are two bytes long cause problems.

There have been a few use cases recently within InterSystems where we've needed to connect to Caché-based web services from PHP. The first of these was actually the Developer Community itself, which uses web services as part of Single Sign-On with other InterSystems sites/applications. The following example demonstrates how to connect to a Caché-based web service (particularly, the web service in the SAMPLES namespace) from PHP, using password authentication.

If you are waiting for the Kindle Edition of Caché and MUMPS – Part II, I must apologize. I believed what others told me that once I have a book manuscript, the Kindle manuscript will be easy. Being a programmer I should have remembered: "never assume anything." The conversion to Kindle is proving a much bigger task than I thought. But don't lose heart, I am working full time on it. I have as my goal before May 1st. But, then again, you know what they say about goals. ;) - - Paul Mike Kadow

NewBie's Corner Session 16 Introduction to New Concepts

Welcome to NewBie's Corner, a weekly or biweekly post covering basic Caché Material.

A number of new concepts are introduced in this session that will be developed more fully in subsequent sessions. It is necessary to at least introduce these concepts here because they are all interrelated.

Have you ever thought about leveraging IIS (Internet Information Services for Windows) to improve performance and security for your Caché web applications?
Are you worried about the complexity of properly setting up IIS?

See the webinar Configuring a Web Server presented by @Kyle.Baxter, InterSystems Senior Support Specialist. Learn how to install IIS, set up it up to work with the CSP Gateway, and configure the CSP Gateway to talk to Caché.

How to write the home address right?

How Tax Service, OpenStreetMap, and InterSystems IRIS
could help developers get clean addresses

Pieter Brueghel the Younger, Paying the Tax (The Tax Collector), 1640

In my previous article, we just skimmed the surface of objects. Let's continue our reconnaissance. Today's topic is a tough one. It's not quite BIG DATA, but it's still the data not easy to work with: we're talking about fairly large amounts of data. It won't all fit into RAM at once, and some of it won't even fit on the drive (not due to lack of space, but because there's a lot of junk). The name of our subject is FIAS DB: the Federal Information Address System database - the databases of addresses in Russia. The archive is 5.5 GB. And it's a compressed XML file. After extraction, it will be a full 53 GB (set aside 110 GB for extraction). And when you start to parse and convert it, that 110 GB won't be enough. There won't be enough RAM either.
