I’ve been exploring options for connecting Google Cloud Pub/Sub with InterSystems IRIS/HealthShare, but I noticed that IRIS doesn’t seem to ship with any native inbound/outbound adapters for Pub/Sub. Out of the box, IRIS offers adapters for technologies like Kafka, HTTP, FTP, and JDBC, which are great for many use cases, but Pub/Sub appears to be missing from the list.

Has anyone here implemented such an integration successfully?

For example:

  • Would it make sense to leverage IRIS’s Business Service + REST API adapter to connect to Google’s Pub/Sub REST endpoints?
  • Or perhaps use an inter

I joined InterSystems less than a year ago. Diving into ObjectScript and IRIS was exciting, but also full of small surprises that tripped me up at the beginning. In this article I collect the most common mistakes I, and many new colleagues, make, explain why they happen, and show concrete examples and practical fixes. My goal is to help other new developers save time and avoid the same bumps in the road.

1. Getting lost among system classes and where to start

The issue: ObjectScript/IRIS ships with many system classes and packages (%Library, %SYS, %Persistent, %SQL, etc.). As a new dev,

Hi Community,

This is my first post in the developer community - would appreciate any feedback!

For testing or demo purposes, you may want to send emails from your Interoperability Production. In this post then I will walk you through connecting an InterSystems IRIS Production to Gmail so you can use it to send emails alerts.

1. Set up a new Gmail

  1. Create a new Gmail account and document the username and password for future references.
  2. Go into the Settings icon on the top right corner of the gmail interface then click on "See all settings". Then, in "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" enable POP

Introduction

HL7 messages often contain multiple repeating segments such as NTE, AL1, OBX, ZTX, DG1, and others. These segments sometimes require individual processing and routing to different downstream systems. This technical paper introduces a configurable template designed to automate the splitting of these repeating HL7 segments, improving message handling and integration efficiency.

Hello Community

The InitialExpression keyword values does not to set default values for properties in classes that extend %CSP.Page, unlike in other class types such as %Persistent or %RegisteredObject, where it works as expected during object instantiation (typically via %New()).

  1. Is %CSP.Page instantiated using %New() under the hood, or does it use a different initialization mechanism?
  2. Are there specific limitations or behaviors in CSP pages that prevent InitialExpression from working as expected?

Thank you!

Our vendor is developing an interface API on their end to capture HL7 data on a Server Port, and they require us to send a pre-defined HL7 Order message for testing every hour until the API is completely operational.

Is it possible to accomplish that in a Business Operation automatically without utilizing a service or process? The BO is a standard TCP/IP connection.

I'm manually sending the message again from the Operations right now. I do not have access to the System Operation to use the Task Manager feature.

I have a vendor that only wants results on patients that arrive to the ED via EMS/Ambulance.  The value I need for filtering is in the PV2;38. Some of the results requested do not allow the PV2 segment to be added to the schema in the EMR.  I was told that other orgs have used a lookup table that is populated with the PV1;19 value when an ADT messages that meets the criteria is sent in.  This table is then referenced in the business rule for the results that do not have PV2;38 and if Encounter number from result message exists on the Table, the result is sent.  Has anyone done this before?

I have been walking through this with a few team members and as such I thought there might be others out there who could use it, especially if you work with HL7 & Ensemble/HealthConnect/HealthShare and never venture out past the Interoperability section.

First, I would like to establish that this is an extension of the already established documentation on importing and exporting SQL data found here: https://docs.intersystems.com/iris20241/csp/docbook/DocBook.UI.Page.cls?KEY=GSQL_impexp#GSQL_impexp_import

This tutorial will explicitly detail how to create, populate or update a Data LookUp Ta

We currently have Business Operation that we built to use the EnsLib.SQL.OutboundAdapter so we can make Microsoft SQL Server Stored Procedure calls. The BO is attached to a Java Gateway Service.

Some of our MS SQL Databases have moved from being OnPrem to Azure Cloud. We have started seeing where we are receiving errors on the BO saying that we cannot connect to the Azure Database, but we never receive a Disconnect from the Azure Database.

Once this happens it seems that the Java Gateway still thinks the connection is opened, and we have to Stop/Start the Java Gateway to get the connection t

Hi Everyone,

So after @Ariel Glikman posted a custom operation example, I'm stuck on another dilemma, and here it is:

  1. I might have different patients with the same business identifier
  2. Each patient (logical) might have several resources like Observations, Conditions and Tasks (there are other type but they are not part of the issue)
  3. Tasks are a representation of something called "Morbidity", it's a presumed illness but not a validated condition
    1. Tasks are created according to observations and/or conditions and the task hold a reference to those resources
    2. A resource such as Observation

FHIR Server

A FHIR Server is a software application that implements the FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) standard, enabling healthcare systems to store, access, exchange, and manage healthcare data in a standardized manner.

Intersystems IRIS can store and retrieve the following FHIR resources:

  • Resource Repository – IRIS Native FHIR server can effortlessly store the FHIR bundles/resources directly in the FHIR repository.
  • FHIR Facade - the FHIR facade layer is a software architecture pattern used to expose a FHIR-compliant API on top of an existing one (often non-FHIR). It also streamlines the healthcare data system, including an electronic health record (EHR), legacy database, or HL7 v2 message store, without requiring the migration of all data into a FHIR-native system.

What is FHIR?

Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) is a standardized framework created by HL7 International to facilitate the exchange of healthcare data in a flexible, developer-friendly, and modern way. It leverages contemporary web technologies to ensure seamless integration and communication across various healthcare systems.

I'm getting an error when trying to call a class method via a workQueue. It functions properly in 2024.1. When calling the method, it immediately errors. I have logging at the top of the method that never gets set.

The error being returned by Iris is simply an "ERROR #5039: An error occurred while calling function  s %sc=##class(|"NS"|Path.To.Class).ClassMethod(.%p1,.%p2)"

The parameter counts match and are appropriate for the method.

Hello,

I'm trying to get the Reply Action Code to work with the error message text.

I have this ACK:

This is some of the Action Codes I've tried:

  • E*Failed to queue message=S
  • E*Failed=S
  • E*"Failed to queue message"=S
  • :E*Failed to queue message=S
  • :?E*Failed to queue message=S

It's not suspending the message however.

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you

While starting with Intersystems IRIS or Cache, developers often encounter three core concepts: Dynamic Objects, Globals & Relational Table. Each has its role in building scalable and maintainable solutions. In this article, we'll walk through practical code examples, highlight best practices, and show how these concepts tie together.

1. Working with Dynamic Objects:

Dynamic objects (%DynamicObject and %DynamicArray) allow developers to manipulate JSON-like structures directly in Objectscript. They are especially useful for modern applications that need to parse, transform or generate JSON.

Is there a way to Remove specific all Addresses from a Provider.Individual.Address before reinserting the Addresses from an HL7 message in Provider Directory?

Most fields we can call %clearFields() however since Addresses come from multiple locations we need to isolate and treat Addresses from this HL7 source as a snapshot.

The problem is that the table does not update at all. Old rows remain, or sometimes nothing appears. I am strugglin
