In a healthcare setting we've an Ensemble namespace through which passes a key HL7 feed (the ADT feed from our PAS). It is split up, transformed and passed on to multiple downstream systems. We consider the feed going to each downstream system an interface. Each interface is developed as separately as possible - typically as a separate branch of our git repo (which we access via VS Code).

Docker help - Idea a thon

I do not know about others, but Docker and the intro of Docker was not a forte of mine coming into trying out new components of InterSystems IRIS. We are moving to IRIS and with that we want to incorporate into our upgrade. I have been struggling with trying to understand Docker. I know it is not an InterSystems product but the assumption that everyone knows Docker and is using Docker has caused me a great deal of time.

What is everyone's thoughts about getting some kind of docker help like a basic understanding within InterSystems documentation.

Hi Community,

A long time ago, I create a package for a String datatype that works with Regular Expression. It is quite a simple solution.

This can work well with packages like the OpenAPI-Suite, where you can then use the "Regular Expression String" as the type for properties of the validator objects where the Swagger contained a Regular Expression.

I am proposing we start a common package of datatypes for use. The package name to use can be provided by the admins.

This year at Global Summit we will have several members of the InterSystems internal applications team (AppServices) on site to present topics of interest to developers. There will be General Sessions that we teach on a number of topics related to tools we're launching to the OEX, knowledge gained based on migrating our Caché app portfolio to InterSystems IRIS, best practices for following OWASP Top 10 with ObjectScript, and a survey of the application landscape offering services to our customers and prospects.

Hi, everyone,

We in InterSystems Learning Services are compiling and reviewing different non-InterSystems materials for learning various technologies. To this end, can I ask:

-What are your favorite learning resources (books, courses, etc) that have helped you with the development and implementation of the FHIR standard and why do you like them?

Thanks, Jamie Kantor

Certification Manager, InterSystems

I am sure I came across this in the past with Cache and just saw this again in IRIS.

When rebuilding or swapping a DAT file for a database it retains the Resource of the DAT file, not the Resource of the Database it is being used for.

For instance, if I have a local Database called APP with a resource %DB_APP and I want to refresh the data from another Database called TEST that has a Resource %DB_TEST I can just copy the DAT file from the TEST folder to the APP folder.

Shout out to the Dev Community !

Hello All,

Just wanted to acknowledge the fact that this community has become a great resource for help. I have had many wonderful people helping me out with my questions in last couple of weeks. Thank you to all of you :)

When overwriting the Read method (that has a %CacheString return type) on a new class that inherits %Stream.FileCharacter class, returns an error about incorrect return type, must be Binary, even if it matched the real signature.

Looking at the compile global information we can see:

^oddCOM("%Stream.FileBinary","m","Read",42)="%Library.Binary"

After further investigation we realise that there is a generator method looking at the OdbcType class definition.

Setting LONGVARCHAR results in:

^oddCOM("User.CStream","m","Read",42)="%Library.String"

Hey Community!

It's been almost three weeks since the end of the Global Summit 2023 (here is a brief reminder of day 1, day 2 and day 3) and you may want to relieve the excitement or, maybe, wish to see the sessions. Here is your chance to influence the order in which those sessions are published here, on the Developer Community.

Here is a full list of sessions so please write down in the comments the ones you look forward to the most! And we'll do our best to satisfy the demand 😉

Hello,

Thank you for reading this question, and thank you for your time and replies.

I was wondering which ways, tools, mechanisms, or vias would you recommend to teach to kids, teens, adults, being your sons / daughters or not; your passion or likelihood for programming and computers?

I know there are some programming free games like the following ones:

Currently, the SQL privileges (SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE) are managed at the tables level, which can be very tedious when you have to administer many roles in an organization, and need to keep them sync with a constantly evolving data models.
By managing privileges at the schemas level, will allow to give SELECT and other DML privileges to *all* or *several schemas* to a role|user, fixing the need to manually synchronize the new tables|views to the roles.

I want to deploy IRIS apps running in containers in Kubernetes with user accounts configured.

I have a %ZSTART routine which looks for an XML file with Users export data and if the %ZSTART routine finds this file, it imports it. This Users export data can be obtained by running a class method.

I have defined a task which can be scheduled or run on demand. This tasks imports user data from an XM file.

In Kubernetes I can provide a ConfigMap to stage the Users data for the %ZSTART routine.

Hello,

Thanks for reading:

What hobbies would you recommend to balance being a professional software developer and have other activities to replenish yourself?

For example: what sports or physical excercise would you recommend? Swimming, gym, bycicle, walk?

What social activities: board games, hang out with other people?

What deep activities to bring yourself a "flow state moment"? Playing an instrument, learning to paint, watching series, play videogames, gardening, reading, playing sports...?

When I'm asked questions about SQL, I like Intersystems staff at the WRC, generally ask about the Query Plan. My feeling is that even before you run a query you should examine the results of Show Plan to confirm that the code is going to give me the results in the manner I would expect. If I expect it to leverage an index and I see that it is not then I go back and look at what I might have done incorrectly and try to re-write the query to get the index behavior I'm looking for. To that end, there's a poll below to ask you if think moving the Show Plan button as the first button would be

Hi folks!

I'm playing with IRIS interoperability at the moment and it turned out that Data Transformation cannot be the element of production by itself.

It can be called either from data rule or from business process.

But why?

What if I just want to change the message with the transformation and transfer the message somewhere else? Why the overhead with Rule or Business process?

Hi Community! Many of you have seen the Data Points podcast episodes that we have been releasing since February. I mentioned previously that I planned to pose an open question to the community about topics you might like to hear in a podcast episode. Let us know in the comments if there are any conversation points you would find particularly interesting, and we can try to include some conversations with experts on said topics!

And in case you missed it, check out Episode 12 about the all-new chat bot on InterSystems websites!
