SQL is a standard language for storing, manipulating and retrieving data in relational databases.

Hi developers!

As you probably noticed in IRIS 2021 the names of globals are random.

And if you create IRIS classes with DDL and want to be sure what global was created you probably would want to provide a name.

And indeed you can do it.

Use WITH %CLASSPARAMETER DEFAULTGLOBAL='^GLobalName' in CREATE Table to make it work. Documentation. See the example below:

Hi all,

I'm trying to use LOAD DATA to insert 11k (11,377) rows of data. LOAD BULK DATA is not available for the version of IRIS I am using.

After calling LOAD DATA it says only 5,500 rows has been inserted. The LOAD DATA docs says any error rows are skipped and a count of skipped rows can be found in %SQL_Diag.Result however there are no results here. There are no errors in the xDBC error log either.

Why have over half the rows been skipped?

Our team is reworking an application to use REST services that use the same database as our current ZEN application. One of the new REST endpoints uses a query that ran very slowly when first implemented. After some analysis, we found that an index on one of the fields in the table greatly improved performance (a query that took 35 seconds was now taking a fraction of a second).

In this article I will explain the usage of %SQL_Diag.Result and %SQL_Diag.Message table along with all-new LOAD DATA functionality.

It is recommended to go through LOAD DATA documentation first.

After successful operation LOAD DATA insert one record in %SQL_Diag.Result table and details are inserted in %SQL_Diag.Message table


Below is the basic command when table is already created and source file does not contain header row. 

LOAD DATA FROM FILE 'C://TEMP/mydata.txt' 
INTO MyTable

The file name must include a .txt or .csv (comma-separated values) suffix and both source and target have the same sequence of data columns.

? %QUERY Wizard in VSCode ?

For my recent tutorial, I used %Query Wizard of Studio.

Could any of the VSCode experts please show me how to generate

Query Statement with input parameters, CONTAINID , ROWSPEC
and the required class methods
- <queryname>Execute()
- <queryname>Fetch()
- <queryname>Close()

I was just not able to do it.

Hi,

I was struggling with a procedure that was meant to receive a string and use it as a filter, I've found that since I want the procedure to do some data transformation and return a dataset, I needed to use objectScript language.

I've created the procedure using the SQL GUI in the portal, and everything works fine when calling the procedure from the SQL GUI but not through a JDBC connection here is the call "call spPatientOS('2024-04-07T12:35:32Z')"

Creating an IDKEY with a chosen name

What do you do if you want to have the ID field have a meaningful name for your application?

Sometimes it comes to pass that when you're making a new table that you want to have the unique row identifier (a.k.a. IDKEY) to be a field that has a name that is meaningful for your data. Moreover, sometimes you want to set this value directly. Caché fully supports this functionality and it works Suppose you have a class Test.Kyle. The data will be stored like so:

^Test.Kyle(IDKEY)=$LB("",Field1,Field2,...,Fieldn)

One of our apps uses a class query to support a ZEN Report and works just fine in that report, producing the expected results every time. We’ve since migrated to InterSystems Reports and noticed that, for a report using the same class query, 100s of extra rows with the same column values appear at its bottom.

Introduction to Outlier Selectivity

Beginning in Caché 2013.1, InterSystems introduced Outlier Selectivity to improve query plan selection involving fields with one atypical value.

In this article, I hope to use an example 'Projects' table to demonstrate what Outlier Selectivity is, how it helps SQL performance and a few considerations for writing queries.
