Release

Syndicate content 3

Those of you who keep an eye on developments in the mainstream of IT will be aware that a major upheaval has been occurring over the last 5 or so years, in which JavaScript has exploded in popularity and importance.  Largely as a result of its server-side incarnation - Node.js - it has broken free of just being the scripting language that you use in web browser, to becoming the world's most popular language and enterprise technology of choice

This announcement is to inform clients about changes in our 2016.2 and 2016.3 field test programs.

The 2016.2 field test has been extended in order to address important syntax changes related to JSON. Simply stated, the JSON syntax introduced in 2016.1 had several inconsistencies that we did not want to perpetuate.   This is now addressed and the updated 2016.2 field test will be published today.  Concurrently, the syntax changes and guidance for developers will be posted on the Developer Community shortly. JSON is critically important to our Caché roadmap.

Doc DB has been removed from the field test due to the syntax changes. We have significant refactoring to do in our Document Data modeling code and we did not want to further delay the release of 2016.2 to accommodate that development. This feature will return at a later date

Hi!

We updated the DC a bit.

Member's answers

With this release, you can see the answers on the member's page too.

E.g. see the answers by Timothy Leavitt

Post updates don't move the post to top

So we can fix the tags, spelling and make other updates to the post and it would not be moved to top anymore.

Now only new answers and comments move the post to the top of the feed.

RSS and other bug fixes

Now bugs for RSS feeds are fixed.

Also, Votes renamed to Rating and has the color indication now. Green means good!

Stay tuned for the next DC improvements!

November 22, 2016 – Alert: Database Integrity on UNIX® and Linux Platforms

InterSystems has corrected a defect that may, in rare circumstances, result in database degradation on UNIX and Linux platforms.

This defect affects Caché, Ensemble, and HealthShare distributions beginning with Caché version 2012.1. It is only a possible risk on UNIX and Linux platforms that are using asynchronous I/O for database writes. The following table specifies if asynchronous I/O is always on or optional for the affected platforms and releases:

Platform

Versions 2012.1 to 2015.1

Version 2015.2 and later

I am pleased to announce the field test of Caché and Ensemble 2017.1, including many new improvements.

The product team at InterSystems looks forward to your participation in the field test and feedback over the coming months.

Some of the more significant changes in 2017.1 are the new RESTful APIs for iKnow, FIPS 140-2 validated cryptography for Caché database encryption, and improved DocBook search.  As always there are a host of scalability and performance improvements to the core database and SQL.  And hundreds of smaller improvements and corrections.  Summary of the Caché changes can be found HERE and the Ensemble changes HERE

Caché process failures on RHEL V7.2

InterSystems WRC has investigated several issues of process failure that can be attributed to a recent change in Red Hat Linux.

A new feature implemented in RHEL V7.2 (systemd-219-19.el7.x86_64) can cause O.S. IPC (Inter-process communication) semaphores to be deallocated when a non-system RHEL user logs out (system users, i.e. with a UID number < 1000, are excluded)

Internally, Caché makes use of IPC semaphores to control the operation of Caché processes (for example when trying to wake-up a Caché process). It does this by using the “semop” system service and if the operating system unexpectedly removes semaphores that Caché relies upon for IPC, then processes can fail. If this occurs the following evidence will be found in the cconsole.log:

“System error while trying to wake-up a process, code = 22€

InterSystems has corrected a defect that may result in missing updates when utilizing Caché online backup.

This defect is present in all Caché and Ensemble versions 2015.1.x, 2015.2.x and 2016.1.x, and all HealthShare distributions based on those versions.  It affects all platforms and operating systems except backups of OpenVMS cluster databases.

The risk does not exist for Mirror Catchup applied to mirrored databases restored from Caché online backup.

The risk only exists when restoring from Caché online backup and applying journal files.  You are at risk of having missing updates if the following are all true

Question:

What version of Caché supports TLS v1.2?

Answer:

Caché 2015.2 announced support for TLS v1.1 and v1.2.  In this version, the SSL/TLS configuration page provides checkboxes for TLS v1.1 and v1.2, which allows the versions to be configured individually.  This allows sites to, for example, require TLS v1.2 only.

Additionally, some earlier versions of Caché provide undocumented support for TLS v1.1 and v1.2, specifically Caché 2014.1.3 and above and 2015.1, on Windows, Linux and Unix

On June 7th we'll be releasing two new views of content that will allow you to rapidly see what's new on the site as well as identify content that has gone unanswered. The next step for this (after this release) will be to add in personalization so that you can filter content based on your tag and member "following" preferences.

  • Multiple improvements for the offline bundle generation, e.g. subfolders are correctly copied to the target folder
  • Optimizations for the dojo library, including a reduced load time by prepackaging required widgets into a single JS file
  • The utility functions $show and $hide are now supported by the dojo and chart.js plugin

In this release we added new functionality that marks postings with either a "new" icon or an "unread" icon depending on when you came to the site last and the age of the postings.

Here are the rules as currently implemented:

- If a user hasn't viewed content which was posted less than 2 weeks ago, then the label "new" is displayed.

- If the user hasn't viewed content which was posted more than 2 weeks ago then the label "unread" is display.
