Docker is a software technology providing containers, promoted by the company Docker, Inc. Docker provides an additional layer of abstraction and automation of operating-system-level virtualization on Windows and Linux.

Question Alexei Yugov · Nov 15, 2024

Hello. On some hosts, IRIS in containers.intersystems.com/intersystems/iris-community:2024.1 falls with a core dump.

auser:~$ docker run --rm -it --entrypoint=""  containers.intersystems.com/intersystems/iris-community:2024.1 bash
irisowner@6170dcdbe77c:~$ iris start IRIS
Illegal instruction (core dumped)

Coredump stack:

#1  0x000055688cf4060a in ListConfig ()
#2  0x000055688cf3dcd7 in main ()

Are there some hardware requirements for IRIS docker container? Or maybe some specific settings?

Greetings dear community members!

I have recently been deploying an IRIS for Health image on a Docker with a preconfigured Webgateway image and I have come across the problem of the SSL configurations that allow us to connect to the IRIS instance using HTTPS and going through our Webgateway.

Until now I had always deployed IRIS for Health with a Community license, which still has the Private Web Server installed, so I only needed to configure the Webgateway connection with the deployed IRIS instance:

I'm trying to get the python external language server started up in a container I am starting. The container is up and running but I cannot get the python language server to start.
This is the error that is coming back when trying to start the language server. I have tried creating a custom image with that package installed but it still does not work. Is there something specific that needs to be done to to get this working? (FYI, I have the dotnet version working but creating a custom image and installing the dotnet runtimes via a docker file)

Using the Basic template for InterSystems IRIS development environment with Docker: github

If I use the Dockerfile_mini file and COPY a backup, the file shows up.

COPY ./20241104_1448.cbk /home/irisowner/dev

ARG IMAGE=intersystemsdc/iris-community
FROM $IMAGE

WORKDIR /home/irisowner/dev
COPY ./20241104_1448.cbk /home/irisowner/dev
...

However if I use the Dockerfile with the additional features, the file is copied (via logs) but not on the container filesystem.

Is this a bug?

Introduction

Managing databases and performing CRUD operations are fundamental tasks for developers building data-driven applications. While many database management systems (DBMS) exist, they can be complex and cumbersome to interact with, especially when it comes to creating databases and tables, handling constraints, and performing real-time data operations through an API.

This web-based Database Management Tool simplifies the entire process, offering an intuitive UI for managing databases and tables, alongside a powerful REST API for interacting with the data.

The test data generator is mainly used to generate test data, which can be used to generate test data for tables and fields to meet the needs of different fields according to different types, currently supports Text, Number, Enum, UUID, regular expression, Multiple date and time formats, and Time Seven different types

How to use:

1. Select a namespace, you can see all the tables under the namespace,

2. Select the table we want to generate test data from, click on the field, and select the type on the right

I want to try out iris-DataViz app to visualize my own data. I cloned the repo and docker-compose up -d in AWS. IRIS portal works, but on port 8051 I get nothing. I checked my AWS security groups. I reversed IRIS webserver port and 8051 and I can connect to Management portal using port 8051. I don't understand what is refusing connection on port 8051 running in iris-DataViz container.

Hi there,
I'm discovering IRIS and I need to POC the solution, with a constraint: containerization.
I'm used to deploy my apps in a Swarm cluster, and all my bind volumes are written on a GlusterFS volume.
The problem here, when I start my stack, the first log is:
[WARN] ISC_DATA_DIRECTORY is located on a mount of type 'fuse.glusterfs' which is not supported, consider a named volume for '/iris_conf'
And of course the deployment fails.
Any idea? How can I provide my data on all my cluster nodes?

Hi there, I'm wondering if anyone has run into an issue with <FILEFULL> when building an image from the ISC image?Specifically what's happening in our build is we are pre-loading our codebase into the image to make deployments faster and setting up source control, etc. When loading our libraries however we get hit with a <FILEFULL>.The resource limits on docker are pretty beefy and when observing resources on both the machine and container level we don't hit any issues.Oddly, this only happens when using the ARM64 version.

As a part of the IRIS Python 2024 contest, my colleague Damir and I went with an idea to build a platform called ShelterShare for connecting victims and volunteers for shelter requests . To do so we chose django as a framework and proceeded to build the first version with 3 different docker containers, django, iris and nginx which would then utilize IRIS as a pure Database engine via the beautifly composed django_iris (cudos to Dimitry). As we were progressing fast, we decided to explore the option of running it within the same container as IRIS by utilizing WSGI added in 2024.1.

In our previous article, we have explored the most common Kubernetes components:

  • We started with the pods and the services we needed to communicate with each other.
  • Then, we examined the  Ingress component used to Route traffic into the cluster.
  • We also skimmed through an external configuration using ConfigMaps and Secrets.
  • Afterward, we analyzed Data persistence with the help of Volumes.
  • Finally, we took a quick look at pod blueprints with such replicating mechanisms as Deployments and StatefulSets (the latter is employed specifically for such stateful applications as databases).

In this article, we will explore Kubernetes architecture and configuration.

A few weeks ago I posted an announcement about a JavaScript-based interface for our mg_web WebServer interfacing addon module.  mg_web isn't just restricted to use by JavaScript developers though.  Many readers will be ObjectScript developers who are more used to using CSP as their web gateway.  Some may even have much older legacy WebLink-based applications (and be wondering how to support them given that IRIS does not support WebLink).

This article aims to provide some more information on mg_web and to explain why it's worth a look for ObjectScript developers.

With a quick glance I could see how easy it would be to create an ad-hoc Adapter to make the connection taking advantage of the capabilities of Embedded Python, so I got to work.

Preparing the environment

To start, we need an instance of the database on which we can perform the tests. By accessing the Firebase console, we have created a new project to which we have added the Firestore database.

What is Kubernetes?

Kubernetes is an open-source container orchestration framework developed by Google. In essence, it controls container speed and helps you manage applications consisting of multiple containers. Additionally, it allows you to operate them in different environments, e.g., physical machines, virtual machines, Cloud environments, or even hybrid deployment environments.

What problems does it solve?
