As some customers recently received new license keys, I received some questions why their new license does not seem to work, other than the expiration date being reached. So far I was able to solve all of them with this short list of things to look at.

Let's pretend you are working on a project where you may be retrieving a URL for some purpose and you have the need to be easily able to parse apart that URL to get the various components that make up the URL.

Since HTTP is a flexible standard regarding to the message contents, RESTful services also enjoy the versatility of data transfer methods.

Traversing A Global

Perhaps the most difficult concept in Caché/MUMPS is its Global Structure. This session and several that follow it deals with the Global Structure. However, just presenting the material will not guarantee your understanding of it. You must experiment with the data and concepts that are presented.

I saw someone recently refer to ECP as magic. It certainly seems so, and there is a lot of very clever engineering to make it work. But the following sequence of diagrams is a simple view of how data is retrieved and used across a distributed architecture.

Checking if Directory or File Exists:

Outlined below is an example of how to check if a directory exists:

Framing refers to the characters that mark the start and end of an HL7 message (or other types of framed messages). Most HL7 services and operations have a Framing setting that allows the user to define this framing. The most common choices are available as defaults, but with the AsciiMM/NN setting, components can be configured to recognize any framing characters.

A “Dummy” SOAP Web Service

When dealing with SOAP in Caché, it is sometimes necessary to debug errors by directly accessing (and sometimes editing) the XML which is sent, i.e. the SOAP request and subsequent SOAP response. If you’re debugging a Caché web service, it is often useful to use a tool such as SoapUI (https://www.soapui.org/) to manually create and control the SOAP request, so that the effect of adjustments can easily be seen on the Caché web service.

In a conference call earlier this week, a customer described how they built an iKnow domain with clinical notes and now wanted to filter the contents of that domain based on the patient's diagnosis codes.
