Hi Community,

As you may know, this year's Spanish Technical Articles contest will be in May. I am going to make a series of articles to support you in the creation of your articles, giving tips and tricks. Perhaps they will be useful for the contest you have active in this community as well.

As you may know, one of the bonuses or extra points you can receive is to add a video tutorial to your article. You may not even know how to approach this issue, no problem! I'm here to give you some tips that you can apply not only to the creation of these videos, but to any other.

High Availability IAM

One of the recommendations when deploying InterSystems Technologies for production is to set up High Availability. The recommended API Manager for these InterSystems Technologies is the InterSystems API Manager (IAM). IAM (essentially Kong Gateway) has multiple deployment topologies.

Background

For a variety of reasons, users may wish to mount a persistent volume on two or more pods spanning multiple availability zones. One such use case is to make data stored outside of IRIS available to both mirror members in case of failover.

Unfortunately the built-in storage classes in most Kubernetes implementations (whether cloud or on-prem) do not provide this capability:

As the title says, I've noticed that files that gets saved to the disk where the database lies (.DAT file) in the stream directory, does not get purged. Is this expected and do we need to create our own schedule task to clean this folder up?

I could only find old answers that say this, however I find it a bit odd if that is the case because they are considered temporary files. Perhaps I do not handle the streams correctly in the code?

#InterSystems Demo Games entry

⏯️ Health Evolve: Transforming Unstructured Data

Did you know that 80% of healthcare data is stuck in unstructured formats such as fax? If you take a walk down to Mass General in Boston, you'll literally see a state-of-the-art MRI machine next to a fax machine. Healthcare keeps building incredible new technology but can't let go of legacy technology. We call this the "legacy modernization paradox". This short film follows a care manager at Blue Plan who spends her days doing chart reviews, reading faxes line-by-line, struggling to provide her members the care they need. Everything changes when Blue Plan pilots InterSystems Health Evolve, a solution that transforms her faxes into machine-readable FHIR data ready for AI and analysis. To access our fully working Text-to-FHIR prototype, visit HealthEvolve.de.

For example, you start debugging the AAA function, which calls the BBB function, then goes to the CCC^ABC function in a different routine and ends up while executing XXX^XYZ. No other routines or functions are visited in this example. What I would like is to get the record of AAA -> BBB -> CCC^ABC -> XXX^XYZ. No marking each function with recording code should be involved: too time consuming, too many functions in real code.

UPD: Iris has built in %SYS.Trace for this purpose but this class is apparently absent in Cache 2017. Did not find any substitutes yet.

SQL injection remains one of the most critical vulnerabilities in database-driven applications, allowing attackers to manipulate queries and potentially access or compromise sensitive data. In InterSystems IRIS, developers have access to both Dynamic SQL and Embedded SQL, each with distinct characteristics. Understanding how to use them securely is essential for preventing SQL injection.

I am looking to create a Python virtual environment (venv) so that my imported/installed python packages can be separate on different namespaces in IRIS. I am able to go and create an environment, activate it, and install packages, but I am not sure how to ensure that Embedded Python methods actually point to this virtual environment.

Is the best solution to just load the virtual environment at runtime, in each method? That seems like a bad solution. Has anyone run into this and found a good solution?

VS Code

Hi.

I want to save and compile a class in VS Code, but I get the error:

Failed to save 'Utils.cls': Unable to write file 'isfs://mip:mz/API/Utils.cls?project=MZ' (Unknown (FileSystemError): Unknown Error).

Any ideas what is wrong?

Regards,
Matjaž

HL7 DTL formatting

I need a DTL to handle this.

Any ideas appreciated.

For all Prosthetics orders:
when ORC-1(Order Control) is "NW" (New Order), need to update OBR-18(Placer Field 1) based on PV1-2 (Patient Class) value.
assumption is that the selection logic is that all prosthetics orders with OBR-18 field is always blank.
Description :
If PV1-2 is I, insert I in OBR-18
If PV1-2 is O, insert O in OBR-18
If PV1-2 is E, insert O in OBR-18
If PV1-2 is P, insert O in OBR-18
If PV1-2 is R, insert O in OBR-18
If PV1-2 is B, insert O in OBR-18
