Studio is a client application, built using Caché objects, that runs on Windows-based operating systems. It can connect to any Caché server (compatible with the current version of Studio) regardless of what platform and operating system that server is using.

Question Nimisha Joseph · Dec 19, 2025

We have created a CSP application in the path /csp/ourapp. Due to some session handling issues, we created a new web application /csp/ourapp/hl7mapping that points to the sane namespace, and we now access the CSP pages using this new URL. This works fine in the local system.

After deploying the app to server, we are facing issues around compiling CSP pages.

We noticed that following compilation command works for CSP files located under the physical path /csp/ourapp, but it does not compile the CSP files placed under /CSP/ourapp/hl7mapping.

do $SYSTEM.CSP.

Studio's Find In Files finds nothing if CLS routines are included. The error is WIDE CHAR. After using ##class(%Studio.Project).FindInFiles programmatically and then ZW after the same error I strongly suspect that CodeWalkopdatecopyopt in EnsLib.InteropTools.HL7.Cloverleaf.Parser.cls is to blame. I cannot even open this class, unlike other classes from EnsLib.InteropTools.HL7. This error prevents searching even if System Items are excluded and I would peg EnsLib as System. Any remedy besides updating IRIS? Assuming this is fixed in later IRIS versions.

Hello everybody,

I would like to export project contents using Visual Studio Code, as well as I do with InterSystems Studio.

However, while attempting the export through the InterSystems extension I get the following error:

- There are no folders in the current workspace that code can be exported to.

These are the step to reproduce my error:

 1. Create and save a new VSCode workspace
 2. Open a local directory
 3. Go to the InterSystems extension
 4. Open "Projects" panel and right-click on the project you want to export
 5. Click on "Export Project Contents"

Anyone can help me solving this issue?

Hi everyone,

I'm preparing to move to a new PC soon and I'm trying to migrate the server connections I use in IRIS Studio to the new environment.

I’ve followed without success an old procedure I've found on a post on the community that involves exporting the registry key from:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Intersystems\Cache\Servers

But I’ve realized that this only includes the entries from the Server Manager and not the actual server connections used within IRIS Studio and shown within the "Server Connections" menu.

Question Colin Brough · Apr 30, 2025

We have classes in a Production environment that are causing us some issues - example attached.

When we export them from the production environment the XML contains a snippet like the following:

<UDLText name="T">

//Property any As list Of %XML.String(XMLNAME = "any", XMLPROJECTION = "ANY") [ SqlFieldName = _any ];

</UDLText>

When imported and compiled into an Ensemble instance this class works as expected.

When viewed/edited in a development environment we run into issues - the presentation is similar with both Studio and VS Code.

Windows 10/Windows Server 2016:

I am currently monitoring our license use with a new rest-service I am implementing when I noticed my licenses on my instance being consumed and never released by Visual Studio Code.

For this I restarted my Instance, watched the licenses for a while, which remained at 1 during idle (I am guessing my MMGT Portal session uses 1)
But when I connect to my Instance using Visual Studio Code (with my Instance setup in the extension already), suddenly 2 licenses are used.

Question Andre Ribera · Jan 21, 2025

I'm working on some code that would benefit from being able to see whether or not a project file has been saved in Studio.
I can see when I make changes, that the project name has an asterisk added to it:

In searching for it, however, I haven't been able to find any methods or calls to access the property/check that controls that asterisk.
My question is whether anyone out there knows if that is accessible and if so then how can it be accessed.
I'd like to add a check in my code that enforces that the project file must be saved prior to proceeding with the intended action.

Hello everyone! This is my first post into the developer community and one that I hope is fairly simple to answer. In our environment we currently have 3 different Test environments for testing before migrating code to our Prod environment. Currently we are working on establishing a source control method using Git in house which has been a bit of a struggle. We have also had developers that had used different test and migration methods in the past which has caused some issues with keeping the different test environment in sync.

I'm experiencing an issue while compiling code in Visual Studio Code with "cuk" qualifiers.

When I try to compile, the following message appears after a while:

In VSC, the "cuk" qualifiers are always used as default and the following message is shown in the Output panel of VSC when a compilation is successful:

I'm unsure if it is possible to replace the cuk qualifiers with something else.

Question Philippe Ebinger · Oct 4, 2024

I have three different methods for exporting classes and projects as XML files, but each one produces slightly different output:

 1. Studio (what I currently use for exporting): I export as a project (with the 'only project' option disabled). This generates all classes and the project in a single XML file.
 2. VS Code: This method only exports the classes, and it doesn't include the project in the XML file.
 3. Console export using %SYSTEM.OBJ.Export: I used the following command to attempt the same export as Studio: do ##class(%SYSTEM.OBJ).Export("MyProject.Prj, MyProject.*.cls", "TempDir/MyProject.xml", "/exportselectivity=0", "", "utf-8")

Hi Team,

Is there a way to search for a string or use of a function in all namespaces in one go.

Studio option "Search in files"/Ctrl+shift+F search all files in the current namespace. We have 13 namespaces and wanted to know if there is an easy way to search in all namespaces in one go.

Thank you for your help

Question Alin Soare · Jun 20, 2024

Hi,

I would like to ask whether there is some option to stop auto-formatting when I compile. The code is sometimes well formatted but the auto-formatter does not work correctly in some situations. I am talking about the compilation in the Studio editor in this image, not about Visual Studio Code.

Thank you in advance,

Alin C Soare.

Question Andy Stobirski · May 1, 2024

Hi Guys

Two of the HC servers I manage (a mirrored pair) have lost the ability to debug code, and I am unsure as to why this has happened. Clearly something has changed, as the other three are working just fine.

When I select a Class Method as debug target, add a few break points and run it, I get the following Output

Debugger executing '##class##class

The classmethod being Debugged ##class(InPhase.Test.CanUpdate).TestBIU() outputs a via lines via the WRITE command, and when I run it from Terminal it clearly works.

Can anyone help?

Andy

I'm trying to learn M programing for an Epic db class prerequisite. They said to download the IRIS Studio software to do the testing. I'm having a very difficult time finding information the language. I'm trying to run some examples that Epic has provided (like in below) but the compiler complains that it isn't valid. Of course, it doesn't tell you why it isn't valid.

r !,"Enter the second: ",sec

Question Maarten Van den Vreken · Apr 17, 2024

Hi all,

I was wondering if there is a way to modify the results you get in the code assist in Visual Studio Code. Ideally even per class or package.

For example: the code below is for a custom component of a framework. From all the options listed I'm only interested in my own property "Title" and I don't want to see any %-methods or auto-generated methods like "TitleSet" and "TitleGet".

I have been looking at the %Api.Atelier classes, but it seems that it's only calling a list of deprecated methods when opening this list.

Question Lukasz Migacz · Feb 19, 2024

Hi,

I have an odd problem that occurs when I'm trying to import lookup tables in the XML format into Studio.

I store my files in in C:\CodeRepository.

I can manually import these lookup tables using "Import local..." option in the InterSystems Studio.

However, when I'm trying to import them using command in terminal: do $system.OBJ.LoadDir("C:\CodeRepository\","ck")

I'm getting the following error:

Loading file C:\CodeRepository\Title.lut.xml as xml
ERROR #5863: Another user has 'Title.LUT' open for editing.

Question Kurro Lopez · Feb 12, 2024

Hi all,

As you know, it is very complicated to debug a Business Service Rest API because the object is created when the applications receive a request, so we cannot have the JobId that we can use to debug.

https://docs.intersystems.com/iris20211/csp/docbook/DocBook.UI.Page.cls…

So, I'm trying to get the JobId when the class is being created, write a trace in OnInit() method and write the JobId in a log info

Method OnInit() As%Status

Question Kurro Lopez · Feb 7, 2024

Hi community.

Yes, I know that there is other question "VS Code - debugging doesn't work" that is the same issue, but my IRIS instance is not using IIS.

Some times ago, I could debug without problems, but after some updates of Visual Studio, I get the following error

Failed to start the debug session. Check that the Intersystems server's web server supports WebSockets

I've activated the WebSocket protocol in the server (Windows Server 2019) but it still doesn't work.

The IRIS instance is not using IIS, I think it is using the Apache by default.

Do I need to do anything in special?

The launch.

Question Joan-Baptista Fabregas · Nov 29, 2023

In the wew versions of IRIS the Studio is going to be deprecated. In the Studio when editing classes there is an option to add information at package level, with the option "Package Information" that shows this dialog:

In VSCode there is the option to add/edit this package information? If no, how can one add/edit this information without the Studio?

Thanks.
