How can I remove UNIQUE NOT NULL from an existing column via DDL?

I currently have a table in production that was originally created via DDL, where the column was defined as UNIQUE NOT NULL:

CREATE TABLE database.Books ( ID %Library.UniqueIdentifier PRIMARY KEY, TagExternal VARCHAR('') UNIQUE NOT NULL,  

I now need to change this column so that it is no longer UNIQUE and no longer NOT NULL, making it equivalent to:

TagExternal VARCHAR(''),

We are looking for a way to disable production Business Services concurrently so that the whole process takes shorter amount time than just going sequentially in a loop and disable them one at a time (very slow). This is necessary for us to be able to stop all traffic to IRIS so that no data remains after we perform full production stop.

I've the below code to build JSON and send it via httpRequest called from business Operation.

But I'm getting this error, which I'm guessing that the formulated JSON doesn't have the correct format, so I was looking to convert the JSONStream to JSON string and try to validate it so see where the JSON is broken, problem is that I'm expecting that there will thousands of records in this JSON so it will hard to go through it, so is there a way to track for error or why this JSON is failing to send

As an experiment in agentic coding in ObjectScript I'm using VS Code to try and create an implementation of an SFTP server.

SFTP is built on top of SSH, so the first phase involves implementing an SSH server. While working on the KEX part of that the agent (using GPT-5.3-Codex) reported:

1. IRIS has what we already need for signing and hashing: RSASHASign, RSASHAVerify, RSAGetLastError, SHAHash, SHA1Hash, SHA3Hash.
2. It does not list a Diffie-Hellman key exchange or modular exponentiation API in %SYSTEM.Encryption.

It then offered these options:

1. Keep using IRIS APIs for cert/key/sign/hash.

We have a large, existing production taking a feed from a single up-stream system and sending to a wide-variety of downstream systems. One of the downstream systems has been decommissioned, and we have deleted the classes that implemented the routing/transformations from the namespace, and deleted the components from the production (Wardview and WV Out in the diagram below). We now want to delete the messages associated with those components without deleting the messages associated with any other components.

I have a daily service that consumes x number of files, each file name chronologically suffixed sequentially by _1, _2, etc. I only want to process the latest file.

I need a %SYS.Python object that will be accessible from different processes. The goal is to avoid reinitializing the Python object whenever it is called. Ways that I checked and decided that it is NOT what I want:

• %-variables (process variables). Reusing only in the same process
• Save-and-restore via globals. Restoring means heavy initialization, which I want to avoid

Next, my ideas (none of them look like a silver bullet):

• Using Interoperability Production.

Has anyone done this successfully?  Customer wants to receive HL7 data over https using OAUTH 2.0 client credentials.  I am assuming a custom Operation will be needed?  I tried using CoPilot for assistance but was unsuccessful.  I am not great with Object script :( 

I use cspa24.so Apache module to connect to IRIS. I have notified that idle Apache processes will always result in connections being kept open to the IRIS server, and thus some amount of IRIS processes being kept alive (and dedicated to those apache processes) because of those connections.

Eg: if I have 50 idle Apache processes, I will have 50 IRIS processes being kept alive in IRIS even if there is no client connection being made at that time. 

It's even worse with multiple Apache nodes and a load balancer.

I'm starting to play more with AI enabled coding. 
I've been using Github Copilot inside Visual studio code, which is very good at coming up with autocomplete suggestions that are accurate and useful. (Along with some utter rubbish, naturally).
For web development I'm starting to use Claude Code in VS Code to help create web sites and integrations. I want to see how it can help with IRIS development. 

However I can't get claude to read any iris code directly as I'm connected to my server via isfs server connections.

This past weekend we ran into something odd. When we failed over our mirror from 2022.1.3 to 2025.1.3 the one of the Business Rules that was on what became the Primary (2025.1.3), had a rule within it that was removed back in January. When the Failover occurred, we had to scramble to backup, disable, and remove the Rule that shouldn't have been there. 

Both the Data and Code live within the same IRIS.dat that is the main MIRROR database for that Namespace. 

If this happened to one Class file, could it happen to others we do not know about?

i'm able to LOAD DATA in IRIS from a rather complex, say Oracle's, query. It works pretty well but requires a target table created aforehand:

LOAD DATA FROM JDBC CONNECTION SOME_OTHER_SERVER QUERY 'complex query here' INTO TargetTable

is there a way to base such target table on the same query ? 
CREATE FOREIGN TABLE seems to require a column definition which I would prefer to be taken from the query
CREATE TABLE AS SELECT seems to be for local queries and other methods, like Linked Table Wizard or %SYSTEM.SQL.Schema.

I am working on integrating a CELL-DYN Ruby hematology analyzer (Abbott) with InterSystems Ensemble using the ASTM E1394 protocol over TCP/IP via a Digi One SP serial-to-TCP converter. I am facing a persistent issue where the Link Test keeps failing on the CDRuby side and the Transmit button remains greyed out. I have overridden EOTOptional=1 in the service class file as Ensemble was not able to send ACK after ENQ. Now I am getting below logs like Machine sends ENQ, Ensemble sends back ACK and Machine sends EOT instead of STX.

I was wondering if it is possible to use the InterSystems Server VSCode Extension to work in client side mode but importing locally the content of a project without having to choose the files manually.

It would be awesome to have all project-related assets synchronized in one go. Relying on InterSystems Projects (.prj files) would be convenient for several reasons:

1. Projects bundle different file types (CLS, MAC, INT, CSP). Importing the project as a whole is much more efficient than picking individual files piece by piece.

We are working on Disk Consolidation and looking at Class/Globals that are rather large and not being cleaned up by the nightly Purge process. We have implemented DeleteHelper - A Class to Help with Deleting Referenced Persistent Classes | IDC on any Custom Data Classes, and Business Processes (BPL).

We have a bunch of Data Classes, BPL's, and Operations that connect to external MS SQL Server using JDBC to query or write data to using Stored Procedures and Queries. All that Query external tables are using EnsLib.SQL.Snapshot, and this is being written to ^Ens.AppData which is not cleaned up.

I am receiving the following message structure on Ensemble from a lab machine, and it is still being processed. I am using the ASTM format with the EnsLib.EDI.ASTM.Service.TCPService service. I have reviewed multiple ASTM messages and verified the schema structure. Logs are not showing any error or TCP connection is not disconnecting. I am not able to understand why am I receiving this. Please let me know if any additional details are required.

I've connected VS Code to my IRIS server and can see projects & web application option but not Classes tab, how can I add it, and with the old Studio we do have the Inspector tab where we can check properties, Storage, methods, are these available in VS code?

also does any changes or new classes created via VS code automatically reflected in my IRIS namespace ?
