Ensemble supports Data Transformation Language (DTL) for describing data transformations. DTL is an XML language. Ensemble provides wizards and graphical tools for creating, editing, and testing DTL transformations. A data transformation is a Caché class like the following. If you prefer you can use Studio to edit the class definition directly and bypass the wizards and graphical tools.
Someone may have asked this before but is there a way to return the TRACE statements that we have placed in the Data transformation within the DTL Editor Testing Tool (EnsPortal.Dialog.TestTransform.cls)? Is this something we can get in an Enhancement request in for?
It would save sometime in troubleshooting where an error might be in the DTL.
Hello, I want to show a fellow DC member how to convert JSON file into HL7 message. I personally do not work with HL7. I set up a production with EnsLib.File.PassthroughService. It passes Ens.StreamContainer to BPL process. I call a DTL to transform StreamContainer to HL7 message. I run into an error:

I have imported a schema (HL7 v2.5 XML schema) using the "Ensemble > Interoperate > XML" and I have built a Web Service that receives a string with an XML document that follows the schema. I have used EnsLib.EDI.XML.Document as follows to consume the string and produce the XML vDoc:
We have one user that is having issues in Ensemble via browser. The two issues she reported are:
- If she opens a DTL, she has to Save or Compile the DTL before she is able to edit anything in the Actions tab. Typically, you can simply open the DTL, click on a line, and edit the Actions.
- If she opens the Tools tab and clicks the Test button, she does not get a response and it eventually times out on her. Typically, clicking the Test button will open a new window where you can paste a message to test your DTL with.
I am putting together a new interface to take in a CSV file and output an HL7 message.
I have used the record mapper to create the source class and I am putting together the transform, but when trying to test it I am not seeing the data populate the HL7 as intended.
Is there a way to hide a property in Data Transformation UI in Interoperability for IRIS? I would like the property not to appear in the list of available properties to set.
I know hundreds of people have done this but I'm looking for some DTL's as a start to do HL7 to FHIR, I appreciate everyone's HL7 is slightly different, but just some starter DTL's would be much appreciated? Can anyone help?
I have an incoming data partner who occasionally passes a non-ASCII character in some free text fields which is causing some downstream systems to be unable to accept the message. Ideally I'm looking for some way to just process the entire message as a data transformation applied in the business rule, as we already have a pre-processor transform to remove the PD1 segment.
One of our development Ensemble instances is misbehaving. We suspect we'll just need to reinstall it - which would be a hassle. Before we do, we wanted to check we weren't missing some kind of easy fix. The symptoms we are seeing:
We are receiving XML documents and storing them. When we click to go into the clinician portal and again to view a patient, we can see the documents but none of the data is mapped to their respective buckets, i.e. allergies or medications.
I am thinking that I need to build an XSLT parser and change the format to SDA3, is this an appropriate approach? Or would using the Data Transformation (Ensemble -> Build -> Data Transformation) be a better idea? Lastly, if the XSLT idea is preferred, where would I call it within the stack?
I am calling a custom class in my transformation and brings back a base64, but my hl7 is doing a carriage return after about 70 characters of the base64. Any ideas how to work around this?
1) What's the correct way to check for an existence of a segment? So far I have been doing this by checking to see if a required field is non-null, and this seems to work but is a bit clumsy. In this case, it’s an X12 message being checked in an IF action in BPL:
In a new rule I configured for a route, I have no constraint configured (so I assume it should pass everything), but I am getting an error that states "Constraints for rule failed".... ?
In my Data Transformation, the Target class needs to create a new List of objects (ListOfObj), depending on some conditions of Source class (Source/Target are completely distinct/different classes).
I experimented with Lists of 'primitive' data types (ListOfDT), and I could add new %String items (as an example) to a List of %String property, with "append" action in DT.
Does anyone have an example, or guidance, how to create new Lists of Objects in data transformation?

Hi, I'd like to ask if it is possible to use an arbitrary JSON as a DTL source. Can the IRIS DTL editor parse JSON of arbitrary structure and display it as a tree?
Suppose I have an image and need to convert that image into a PDF for inclusion in an HL7.
I know that Zen Reports can display an image in a PDF but I do not want to view the image in a web page. I just need to convert the image to PDF in a Process and then include that PDF in an HL7. The workflow would be like this:
Get image -> Convert image into PDF -> Include PDF in HL7 OBX.
I know how to do the last part to include PDF in HL7 OBX. Just need ideas on the first part.
I am having an issue with the output file format on a production where quotes (" ") around column values are being removed from the imported file. For example, my input file is a csv formatted as such: "123", " ", "ABC". The output file format that is being generated produces: 123, , ABC. I need the output file to retain the quotes around the data.
Is this something that can be corrected in the record map? Or is it an issue elsewhere?
I have a case where I need to look up the NPI provider against an External MS SQL database to retrieve our Provider Identifier to send to a downstream system. In the past I would use a Business Process (BPL) to connect to the outside MS SQL via JDBC and get that information for me. But I was thinking instead of creating a BPL process to do this, would it be better just to link to the outside MS SQL database table to retrieve the information in a SQL statement within a DTL?
Problem to Solve: When an HL7 message hits a particular Process, I need to use the placer order number therein to query the messages that came in over the last 24 hours on a particular Service and grab discrete pieces of data that came in the latest message that has that placer order number.
I want to add a couple of properties to a custom Transform class to give the user the ability to edit its properties directly in the Business Process visual editor. It can be easily done with other Production components, but I can't find in the documentation how to do the same with my Transform. Is it possible?
And another question is about how to use the 'aux' parameter of the DataTransform.Transform method if my component is non-visual?

I've now moved jobs and I'm doing some work (surprise, surprise) with Ensemble.
Hello, our Team is trying to develop Ensemble DTL to transform incoming X12 files into persistent data records. We created a persistent class and we can insert data using SQL. We tried to verify that %Save() gets called by adding %AddToSaveSet() method to persistent class and there writing to a global. We had to extend our persistent class with Ens.VDoc.Interface class or we could not see %Save() being called from Ensemble DTL. We suspect that %Save() gets some kind of error. We tried to debug by overwriting Transform() method in our DTL class.
