In healthcare, interoperability is the ability of different information technology systems and software applications to communicate, exchange data, and use the information that has been exchanged.

Hello everyone, thanks for reading this question.

I am currently working with Ens.Alerting.ManagedAlert in an interoperability production and I am using the alert suppression mechanism to avoid generating duplicate alerts within a defined time window (for example, 30 minutes).

Rule Set

The configuration works correctly in terms of preventing duplicate alerts from being generated, but I have a question regarding observability.

When an alert is suppressed during the configured time window, I can see log messages such as:

"Managed alert not created for AlertRequest with ID 'XXXX' due to rule 'Rules.

How to execute a stored procedure in a remote DB2 database?

Hi Everyone,

I want to access a stored procedure in a remote DB2 database. The stored procedure in question is linked and receives a numeric value, returning a cursor with N number of rows. Sometimes the number of rows reaches hundreds of thousands, so I need to apply pagination.

I've been reading about the %ScrollableResultSet library, but it doesn't allow me to call a stored procedure.

Here's part of the code:
Set pValor=12345678
Set callSql="CALL Paquete.ClaseSpRemoto(?)"
Set rs=##class(%ScrollableResultSet).

Hello, how are you?

Using Healthshare for Interoperability, we often see a wide variety of encoding issues. Some happen when transforming XML to HL7. Some happen the other ay around transforming HL7 to XML.

Is there a valid way to understand which encoding needs to be used?

I ask, because we use SOAP or REST or TCP HL7 services.

And we deliver messages with TCP HL7, SOAP, HTTP Operations.

And we often face this issue where special characters like ñ or á, are not encoded correctly.

Thanks for your replies.

Hey everyone,

I'm just seeking some guidance and confirmation on what I'm doing for my production health monitoring.

We utilize Grafana to have reporting/monitoring dashboards and I have made a REST API to query the health of our productions. I believe I have everything figured out except for one thing that I'm uncertain about and that is the Production Item Color indicators:

Is there an easy way of being able to figure out the status of an item with the legend above? Ideally, I'd like to have this data in my JSON response.

I am looking for a way to capture Data Quality issues with the Source data that is populating HealthShare Provider Directory. 1 way is to use Managed Alerts, but since it could be multiple Providers and different messages it seems silly to alert on every message that has the error. Instead, I was thinking of using the Workflow Engine so it could populate a Worklist for someone to review and work.

Looking over the Demo.Workflow Engine example, I am not comprehending on how to send a task to the Workflow manager to populate the worklist from a DTL.

What are best practices for JSON transformation in IRIS interoperability? This is for a non-healthcare use case, so any tools we happen to have around FHIR might not be available. The motivating use case is trimming down a verbose and needlessly complex REST API response to feed to an LLM - trying to reduce token usage and maybe get better results from less noisy data.

Specifically, I'm imagining matching based on JSONPath expressions and simplifying structures based on the inferred type of elements rather than a full schema.

Hey everyone.

As part of an ongoing mission to track down orphaned HL7 Messages in our integration engine, I have been digging into our environment to track down the causes.

Having looked at various posts here (including one of my own) there are a few scenarios that can create orphaned messages resulting in excessive disk space usage. These scenarios are generally:

  1. Purging an environment with the option "Bodies Too" deselected
  2. Code creating/saving a Message but then not sending it
  3. BPL errors similar to 2, or a scenario where the response to a Call component is not set.

I am using IRIS for Windows (x86-64) 2022.1 (Build 209) Tue May 31 2022 12:27:55 EDT [Health:3.5.0]. I created Interoperability Production with a Service to read file from S3 bucket and an Operation to write files to a different S3 bucket. I specified AWS  ProviderCredentialsFile.

I see "Terminating Job 7096 / 'From S3 Bucket' with Status = ERROR #5023: Remote Gateway Error: Connection cannot be established, %QuitTask=

Do I need anything like Python libraries or AWS CLI to make this work?

Hi community,

I have a service that uses EnsLib.RecordMap.Service.FTPService to capture files in an FTP directory.

Instead of uploading them all at once, I would need to do so one at a time.

I have a class that extends this class because it preprocesses, saves everything in the RecordMap class, and then processes all the records at once.

When I invoke the BP, it does so through the method set tStatus = ..SendRequest(message, 1).

I've set the SynchronousSend flag to 1, but it continues processing all the files at

For historic reasons we've got a mix of ADT feeds coming out of our PAS (TrakCare) to a wide range of downstream systems. In particular, there are some that are direct from TrakCare to the downstream systems, and many more that pass through Ensemble as our integration engine.

This is complicating management of the integrations, and so we'd like everything to go through the integration engine.

Been testing out the Production Validator toolkit, just to see what we can/not do with it. Seems really interesting and there seem to be some use cases for it that can really streamline some upgrades (or at least parts of upgrades) but I was running into so many hurdles with the documentation. I am curious if anyone else has used it.
Did you experience any issues getting it working? Any clarification that you would have liked in the documentation? any use cases that you worked through that made it particularly valuable? etc?

Hello, good morning, thank you so much for reading this question. ☺️🙂👍

We are developing a code to get information about our Production's items: services, processes and operations.

We know we can get various configurations of a given item: Category, Port, Enabled...

But we wonder how we could get the date time of the last mesage (most recent) received in an item.

To give a code snippet a small section of the code we have developed (and tested), it looks like:

[...]

For i=1:1:tProduction.Items.Count() {
    #dim item as Ens.Config.Item
    set item = tProduction.

Is anyone using DICOM Interoperability in IRIS for Health configured in Mirror?

I'm asking because I'm not sure how to handle where the DICOM messages are stored.

For some reason DICOM use the filesystem to store raw messages, the directory used can be configured in the StorageLocation production settings, obviously this is a big issue if/when a mirror failover occur.

Unfortunately in IRIS it's not possible to change the DICOM storage from file stream to global stream.

Has anyone came across this issue?

I'm creating a Business Process that:

  1. Transforms one object into another using DTL
  2. Sends this object to an operation
  3. Transform the object obtained in first point into another one using DTL
  4. Sends the second object to an operation

The Business Process is created with BPL, and objects are stored in BP context. When I execute this Process, in the 3rd point the object obtained in first transformation doesn't exist. It's empty.

Hi,

I've been working on a very basic Interoperability production in my computer. I followed one of the examples in the courses and created a TEST.FileRouterRoutingRule, but when trying to edit this rule, it takes me to the Rule Editor Login Page, where I can't get in (Not even with the _SYSTEM credentials) - Is this functionality unavailable in the community edition?

I need to add an extra blank OBX segment after a segment containing text, Total Cost:

I get the OBX segment but it is in incorrect location.

It should be after the line containing Total Cost:

It needs to contain:

OBX|1|TX|2000.02^REASON FOR REQUEST^AS4|

code:

    //Do pOutput.SetValueAt(tOBXText_"~~","ORCgrp(1).OBRuniongrp.OBXgrp("_i_").OBX:5","set") //
         If (tOBXText[ "Total Cost:") {
             Set tSegmentOBX = ##class(EnsLib.HL7.Segment).%New()
             Set tSegmentOBX.SegType = "2.3:OBX"
             Set tSC = tSegmentOBX.SetValueAt("OBX", 0, "set")
             Set tSC = pOutput.

I am receiving the garbled text due to incorrect encoding or decoding. I tried to use the $zconvert function to convert it into the normal text but failed to do that. Can anybody suggest what I have to use to convert that into normal text?

Example: Garbled text that I am getting is "canââ¬â¢t , theyââ¬â¢re".

Question Padmaja Konduru · Mar 29, 2025

We are receiving the report in text format and it has special characters like ', - like that in the text. Source system is using the UTF8 encoding format hence the text is showing as '  ' . Is there a way to convert the utf8 to actual character in the DTL.

Thank you,
