I have been using embedded python for more than 2 years now on a daily basis.
May be it's time to share some feedback about this journey.
Why write this feedback? Because, I guess, I'm like most of the people here, an ObjectScript developer, and I think that the community would benefit from this feedback and could better understand the pros & cons of chosing embedded python for developing stuff in IRIS. And also avoid some pitfalls.
here is my question: I would like to delete files one by one (not all at a time because I need to check somethinkg to delete it or not) in a defined folder but how can I handle it? I have used the extension :
If you want to dynamically serve images as a property of JSON then there is no perfect encoding solution. One method used frequently is to Base64 encode the image. Whilst there are some negatives to doing this, such as data inflation, there are some positives to working with Base64 images inside the browser.
Let's say you have an image placeholder on a web page...
I'm trying to setup the JDBC Gateway Server so customers can connect to IRIS remotely using JDBC and not ODBC. But I'm facing a problem connecting, as our system department tells me IRIS is using the loopback address (127.0.0.1) and that makes remote systems cannot connect to port 53773 (the default port for that).
So, I would like to change this 127.0.0.1 host for the hostname but I cannot see where to do it:
I need to load data from excel to a class in cache, but this class has foreign key and property like AS ..... (other class). This class represent an item product that belongs to a line, the line blelongs a group and the group belongs a Category.
I have a class in several namespaces. This class is what I call a common component in that it is a class that performs a certain set of functions that are common to a number of Interfaces. In this example the class is essentially a Message Queue. When a Data Event is created in my source database I want to invoke the CreateMessage() class method in all of Interface namespaces.
Several years ago everyone got mad about BigData – nobody knew when smallish data will become BIGDATA, but all knows that it’s trendy and the way to go.
I have been trying to implement SPA using routing between two components in a CSP page.
If i use the line which i commented the page views and gets data from the vue instance (when not using the <route-view> and other 2 vue route functions below).
since i need to implement routing i am using as below, now the property "selectedYear" is not getting data from vue instane and i am getting the below error as well.
I dont know whether i am going down the right path.
If a have a string " Happy new year " and I want to trim (remove blank spaces from the begin and the end, not other places into the string), what is the object script function to get "Happy new year"?
I recently encountered a issue with Caché and I can't figure out where the problem is coming from.
I noticed that the license limit (200) was reached whenever I was opening my Studio (so it seems). When this occurs, I restart Caché (with the Cube in the Taskbar), and the number of license used is back to 1%, but grows back after. The time taken before the number of license grows back again looks pretty random.
Hi all. Yesterday I tried to connect Apache Spark, Apache Zeppelin, and InterSystems IRIS. During the process, I experienced troubles connecting it all together and I did not find a useful guide. So, I decided to write my own.
This article explains the basics of OpenVMS file structures, from a Caché prospective, and what you need to know to read and write any OpenVMS file with Caché, even the files with difficult file structures.
All Global Masters members (Advocates) can achieve various levels of advocacy which depends on contributions Developer Community and activity in Global Masters.
Every new level opens new types of challenges/tasks and new types of rewards.
To level up, you should earn a number of badges from the next level. Badges can be earned for completing various challenges at the Global Master.
The InterSystems DBMS has a built-in technology for working with non-structured data called iKnow and a full-text search technology called iFind. We decided to take a dive into both and make something useful. As the result, we have DocSearch — a web application for searching in InterSystems documentation using iKnow and iFind.
I come from a programming background, but haven't touched ObjectScript before my current job, so please forgive my ignorance.
Within an Ensemble system, I need to post some information to a RESTful web service. I'm just trying to figure out how to create a method which takes a simple message and posts this off to a RESTful web service?
If a user simply closes a tab (running a web application), is there any good way to ensure that the license is released AND the login cookie is destroyed?
I found that if the tab is simply closed without first logging out of the application, then 1) the license hangs around forever, and 2) if the user then opens a tab, he is already logged in.
APM normally focuses on the activity of the application but gathering information about system usage gives you important background information that helps understand and manage the performance of your application so I am including the IRIS History Monitor in this series.
In this article I will briefly describe how you start the IRIS or Caché History Monitor to build a record of the system level activity to go with the application activity and performance information you gather. I will also give examples of SQL to access the information.
I recently helped a site investigate a problem that appeared after they upgraded their Windows instance of Caché from 2015.1 to 2017.1. A terminal session launched from the server's desktop cube was unable to run OS-level commands using the $ZF(-1) function. For instance, using the no-op command "REM" as follows:
write $zf(-1,"rem")
was returning -1, indicating that the Windows command could not be issued.

I have a FTP.Inbounding service that read a file and move it to a other folder when it is processed. The problem is that is not working fine in SFTP server.
Some of our interfaces use globals for lookups, but we are currently looking at putting a groups of (document) interfaces in a separate production with a shared ‘Default Database for Routines’ to reduce code duplication.
If you do not have direct access to the server that runs your IRIS Docker container you still may require access to the container outside "iris session" or "WebTerminal". With an SSH terminal (PuTTY, KiTTY,.. ) you get access inside Docker, and then, depending on your needs you run "iris session iris" or display/manipulate files directly.
Note:
This is not meant to be the default access for the average application user but the emergency backdoor for System Management, Support, and Development.
InterSystems has recently completed a performance and scalability benchmark of IRIS for Health 2020.1, focusing on HL7 version 2 interoperability. This article describes the observed throughput for various workloads, and also provides general configuration and sizing guidelines for systems where IRIS for Health is used as an interoperability engine for HL7v2 messaging.
We have a SOAP web service that we call to retrieve a stream of a PDF file. The web service is written by another group in our company (not a Cache group). We are running into one issue where it seems that the PDF is too big and when it is sent to us we get this "ERROR #6301: SAX XML Parser Error: <STORE>". The stream is about 8mb. This is the first time that we have encountered this issue.
We have a WRC ticket open about this but doing some research, we found that if we increase the $ZSTORAGE then we no longer get this error when we call the web service for this 8mb file.
Just wanted to let you know there's still time to get a $25 dollar gift card from Gartner for reviewing our products. Reviews must be objective (no InterSystems employees) and approved by Gartner. Here is the link: https://gtnr.it/3ulVX4K
We are sometimes asked for examples of how to do 3rd party SQL database selects/updates/inserts/stored procedures from an Ensemble SQL Business Operation.
In the attached file there are 4 sample Ensemble Operations that demonstrate four different types of transactions with an external SQL DB:
