Question Wolf Koelling · Jan 7, 2019

After attending the Intersystems DACH conference in Germany at the end of last November and taking part in a few workshops about containers and microservices I took the plunge and installed Docker on home Windows PC, downloaded IRIS 2018.2 preview and got that up and running. Good stuff and I gave myself a pad on the shoulder at that point.

But then it dawned on me that I couldn't edit code using Studio as  Studio is Windows only and while I'm running on a Windows desktop the Docker image itself is Linux based.

Upgrade of custom application

Dear community,

we are a company located in central Germany working with Intersystems Caché since 2003 (Jesus, that's actually a long time in IT).

As we struggle to keep pace with outside development we still operate on Caché 2013.1 surprise

We are, of course, aware that we need to upgrade Caché and therefor plan an upgrade to 2017.2.

Now my question to you bold ObjectScript warriors:

  • Did anyone do this with a legacy application (still have macro routines, the old style)?
  • Has anyone experienced any bigger issues with a move like this?
  • Are there existing checklists apart

Hi, Community!

I'm pleased to share the news of Developer Community April 2018 release.

We improved Performance, Tags, and UI.

See the details below.

1. Performance improvements

We fixed a lot of performance issues and the site became more responsive on main, groups and tags pages.

2. Tags descriptions

All the tags have descriptions nows so it is easier to understand what the tag relates to. E.g. Caché, ObjectScript, Beginner.

3. Special tags

We introduced the option to have "private" tags - the tags, which only dedicated people can put for a topic.

I'm pleased to see this in the documentation of the just-published 2017.1 Field Test of Ensemble:

"In certain circumstances, it is useful to create namespaces that are not enabled for Ensemble. In this release you can do this by clearing the Make this an Ensemble namespace checkbox when creating a new namespace. "
