When working at the Caché command prompt I sometimes want to run an operating system command on the server host. By prefixing my command line with ! or $ I can do this with ease. The following examples are from 2017.1 on Windows, but the feature is available on all versions and platforms:

Terminal license expire message

If you are facing out the license expire warning message on your terminal ("*** Warning: This Cache license will expire in 3 days ***") and you do not want that message to be displayed, you can disable/enable that by rinning the following commands:

Do ExpirationMessageOff^%SYS.LICENSE - Disable

Do ExpirationMessageOn^%SYS.LICENSE - Enable

How to make phone calls using Caché Objectscript and Twilio

Introduction

Twilio is a great tool for programmatically initiating and managing phone calls. In this example we'll go over basic account setup, create a Cache Class to manage our interaction with the Twilio API, and initiate a phone call from the Cache Terminal.

Warning: Stale Persistent Objects created by $THIS

tl;dr I have discovered that using $THIS in a very specific way will make persistent objects go stale.

I found that it only happens when using $get on an array that contains the OID reference of $THIS. I assume that this is an unwanted feature and have raised a WRC. The problem can be recreated following the steps below, I have also posted the workaround that I am currently testing and looks to be working fine.

Terminal tip: What's running in my namespace?

When working at a terminal prompt the %SS routine lets me see what's running on the instance:

USER>d ^%SS

But sometimes I'm only interested in knowing what's running in my namespace. In which case, here's what I use:

USER>d THIS^%SS
