InterSystems is pleased to announce the release of Caché, Ensemble, and HealthShare Health Connect v15.03

Some highlights for Caché and Ensemble are:

• Parallel dejournaling to improve throughput of mirroring and journal restore
• New iFind and iKnow features like co-occurrence search, performance improvements, and more
• SQL enhancements in Query Auditing, optional ANSI SQL operator precedence, and Frozen Plan Evaluation, along with several query optimization improvements
• Ensemble updates include DICOM enhancements, XML performance, and XSLT2 activities in BPL.

I am pleased to announce that Release Candidates of Caché and Ensemble 2017.2 are now available.

Many customers have already downloaded the Field Test over the past few months, and we appreciate your feedback.

This release contains significant improvements, including:

• Parallel dejournaling to improve throughput of mirroring and journal restore.
• New iFind and iKnow features like co-occurrence search, performance improvements, and more.
• SQL enhancements in Query Auditing, optional ANSI SQL operator precedence, and Frozen Plan Evolution, along with our normal cast of query optimization improvements.

Project related quality assurance efforts have revealed a number of concerns for the current release of 2017.1.0 and 2017.1.1 on all OpenVMS platforms. In certain situations, the impact can be severe. InterSystems will address these issues with the upcoming 2017.1.2 release, and in the meantime, will remove all 2017.1.x kits for OpenVMS from our Download Servers.

July 27, 2017 – Alert: Linux Defects Can Corrupt Mirror Copies of Journal Files

InterSystems has encountered defects in Linux which can corrupt copies of journal files that are generated on a mirror backup or async member; this occurs only in certain specific configurations. The original mirror journal file created on the primary member is not affected.

The risk is only exposed in Caché, Ensemble, and HealthShare distributions beginning with version 2017.1.0. The risk only exists on Linux and only if a backup or async mirror member is configured to use the rtkaio library.

I am pleased to announce the Maintenance Release of HealthShare Health Connect v15.021 on data platforms 2016.1.4

This contains the HealthShare module Core: 15.021.8253

The version number for this kit is 2016.1.4HS.8253.0

The platform list is the same as for HealthShare Health Connect v15.02 for 2016.1.3. You can get details from the Supported Platforms document.

June 26, 2017 – Alert: Data Corruption with Mixed Endian Mirror Shadowing

InterSystems has corrected a defect that may result in corruption of Unicode data on a shadow system whose source is an async mirror member.

This defect affects all currently released Caché, Ensemble, and HealthShare distributions beginning with version 2012.2.0.  All platforms and operating systems are affected.

In order to be exposed to the risk the configuration must include mirror primary and async members, and a shadow of the async member.

InterSystems is pleased to announce the availability of the Caché and Ensemble 2016.1.4 maintenance releases.

HealthShare HealthConnect v15.021 on core technology 2017.1.1.111.

With the recent release of Caché and Ensemble 2017.1, InterSystems customers can now create configurations where the data-at-rest cryptographic library used is compliant with FIPS 140-2.

Caché and Ensemble now provides you with the option to enable FIPS mode on RedHat 6.6, 7.1 on x86-64. This means is, that InterSystems products will no longer use the supplied crypto libraries that come with the kit, but will use the FIPS validated libraries provided by the Operating Systems vendor.

To configure your system, RedHat must operating in FIPS mode.

The last version of Caché, Ensemble released for VSI OpenVMS is 2017.1. Unlike HP OpenVMS (Alpha and Itanium), VSI OpenVMS on Itanium continues to be supported. This means that critical corrections or changes required to support customer’s hardware purchases will all be based on 2017.1 or earlier versions.

I am pleased to announce that Caché and Ensemble 2017.1 Release Candidate versions are now available for all platforms.

We appreciate the many customers who have downloaded, tried it, and given us feedback over the past few months.

Some things not in the original field test that you may want to check out include:

• Ubuntu is now a full production platform.
• OpenID Connect now supports JWKS with OpenID Connect Discovery and OpenID Connect Dynamic Client Registration.

There have been over 300 additions and corrections since the beginning of Field Test.

Beginning with the next release after 2017.1, InterSystems products will no longer be offered on macOS (OS X) as a Server platform. This platform has been re-classified and will be available as a Development platform in future releases.

November 22, 2016 – Alert: Database Integrity on UNIX^® and Linux Platforms

InterSystems has corrected a defect that may, in rare circumstances, result in database degradation on UNIX and Linux platforms.

This defect affects Caché, Ensemble, and HealthShare distributions beginning with Caché version 2012.1. It is only a possible risk on UNIX and Linux platforms that are using asynchronous I/O for database writes. The following table specifies if asynchronous I/O is always on or optional for the affected platforms and releases:

I am pleased to announce the field test of Caché and Ensemble 2017.1, including many new improvements.

The product team at InterSystems looks forward to your participation in the field test and feedback over the coming months.

Some of the more significant changes in 2017.1 are the new RESTful APIs for iKnow, FIPS 140-2 validated cryptography for Caché database encryption, and improved DocBook search.  As always there are a host of scalability and performance improvements to the core database and SQL.  And hundreds of smaller improvements and corrections.

Starting with 2017.1, InterSystems has moved macOS from being a server platform to a development platform. 2017.1 will only support macOS 10.12 and will no longer be available as dmg kits.

Verification of macOS 10.12 has not been completed at this time and Field Test kits for this platform are not yet available.

InterSystems has corrected a defect that may result in missing updates when utilizing Caché online backup.

This defect is present in all Caché and Ensemble versions 2015.1.x, 2015.2.x and 2016.1.x, and all HealthShare distributions based on those versions.  It affects all platforms and operating systems except backups of OpenVMS cluster databases.

The risk does not exist for Mirror Catchup applied to mirrored databases restored from Caché online backup.

The risk only exists when restoring from Caché online backup and applying journal files.

August 24, 2016 – Alert: Database Compaction

This is an addendum to the Alert published on October 14, 2015 – Alert: Database Defragmentation.

That alert indicated that the database defragmentation utility in 2014.1 and higher, on all platforms except OpenVMS, could cause database degradation and the correction JO2871 is available to clients upon request and would be included in future releases.  The correction was included in 2015.1.3, 2015.2.2 and 2016.1.

InterSystems is pleased to announce that Caché and Ensemble 2015.2.4 are now available as maintenance releases.

• Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 for Power System-64 has been dropped.

InterSystems is pleased to announce that Caché and Ensemble 2016.1.1 are now available on all supported platforms.

This followup announcement adds all the OpenVMS versions that were excluded in the announcement last week.

InterSystems is pleased to announce that Caché and Ensemble 2016.1.1 are now available as maintenance releases.

Caché and Ensemble 2016.1.1 are available now for the same platforms as 2016.1.0, with the following exceptions:

• OpenVMS is not available yet.  It will be announced separately.

• Support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 for Power System-64 is now dropped.

At the end of this year support for OpenSSL 1.0.1 will end. InterSystems has started the process to move to OpenSSL 1.0.2 and use the 1/28/2016 release (1.0.2f) for verification and product inclusion. I will update this post once InterSystems  decided which versions will receive  support for OpenSSL 1.0.2.

I am happy to announce the immediate availability of  Caché and Ensemble 2016.1.

• Continued advances in SQL performance
• Database scalability improvements
• New REST services for DeepSee
