Question John McBride · Mar 10, 2025

Hello,

I'm using the .Net C# IRIS client and trying to create a HS.Data.OIDMap object which contains a $LIST property (.IdentityTypes). I am able to create the object using the .NET client, however when trying to create and assign the list object I get a "List cannot contain of type IrisObject".
Documentation for HS.Data.OIDMap https://docs.intersystems.com/irisforhealth20243/csp/documatic/%25CSP.Documatic.cls?LIBRARY=HSSYS&PRIVATE=1&CLASSNAME=HS.Data.OIDMap

My question is two fold

  1. How to do you set a object property that is a list that needs to container other IrisObjects?

Hello,

I'm working on building some .NET Scripts/CLI tools and starting to use the .NET external language server.

I've been able to connect using the .NET SDK, but trying to understand a little how to make a call that has a output parameter. I've read that you should use IRISReference, but haven't been able to get that to work. Here is what I'm trying to do
I'm trying to make a call to the %SYS.Namespace.ListAll() method but as you will note, the first param for the method is an output param (https://docs.intersystems.com/irisforhealthlatest/csp/documatic/%25CSP…?

I created a Dotnet api to connect with IRIS database to do some task.
"InterSystems.Data.IRISClient.dll" (NativeAPI) is used in dotnet api to connect IRIS.
I used following code in dotnet to open and close the IRIS connection.

Open Connection
---------------------------
IRISConnection iRISConnect = new IRISConnection();
IRISCommand command = new IRISCommand();
iRISConnect.ConnectionString = "Server=xxxx.com; Port=1972; Namespace=aaa; Password=yyyy; User ID=xxxxxx;";
IRIS NativeAPI = IRIS.CreateIRIS(iRISConnect);
iRISConnect.Open();

Connection Close

Hi,

We are developing a .NET6 application using Iris database. We would like to use ORM for easier code maintenance.

I saw a doc about Entity Framework: https://docs.intersystems.com/iris20231/csp/docbook/DocBook.UI.Page.cls?KEY=BNET_eframe, but even it's newest Iris version, the Entity Framework is very old .NET Framework (2013) and not supported by Microsoft anymore. Are there any plans to support Entity Framework Core?

Our ERP solution runs on different sql databases (such as ms sql and posgre). We are using the same code for all plattforms, doing database-specific changes in the db driver for each type of database.

There is one function in our program, where the user can store long text to discribe something, which is used in print and web. This text is treated/stored as html and can include pictures. The pictures in the html are stored base64 coded inside the html and the html is stored as text in a column. In other database systems, this is treated as TEXT or BLOB, and workings just fine.

Hi

I am upgrading our application from dotNet Framework to dotNet Core.

Prior to the upgrade I was able to connect to both my Cache & IRIS instances using the IRIS ADO.NET driver.

However, in dotNet Core, whilst I can connect to IRIS, I get the following error connecting to Cache.

InterSystems IRIS Provider is not compatible with Cache xDBC server

I am using the IRIS  driver from the Windows (x86-64) 2022.1 distribution (the one in dev\dotnet\bin\net5.0).

The cache version is Cache for Windows (x86-64) 2018.1.2

Thanks

Question Louie McLaughlin · Mar 10, 2022

I'm new to cache, come from an oracle and sql server background. In oracle and sql server I could write basically a stored procedure like script and pass it in as text to the command to execute.

Example:

Below would be the _sqltext

DECLARE @Id INT;

select id into @Id from something;

 if @Id = 9

BEGIN

do something

END

The _sqltext would work in sql server, what would be the equivalent for cache for it work?

I get a generic error when I try it with cache

using (var mdscmd = new CacheCommand(_sqlText, MyConnection) { CommandType = CommandType.Text }) {

}

Thanks

I'm using this Dockerfile to build .Net Gateway with my PEX BS. It works fine. If I change the image reference here to store/intersystems/iris-community:2021.2.0.617.0 in line 8 (so update from 2020.2 to 2021.2) it fails to build with:

KafkaConsumer.cs(4,20): error CS0234: The type or namespace name 'EnsLib' does not exist in the namespace 'InterSystems' (are you missing an assembly reference?) [/source/KafkaConsumer.csproj]

KafkaConsumer.cs(9,34): error CS0246: The type or namespace name 'BusinessService' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) [/source/KafkaConsumer.csproj]

 Native API  , IRIS 2019 regression vs Cache .Net provider

1. checking the native API, with .net provider, from IS docs, I realize,

that it is not possible to wrap objectSricpt Class with .NET (C# for example) pure Class with it's methods/properties

and make pure instance syntax of: new myNetClass - as wrapper of irisClass.

as I realize, you can run  .Net Class , only with .Invoke or iris.ClassMethodVoid("class.name","method")

such syntax, cannot execute event driven on proprety change, let say, with it's build in mechanizm in .Net

2. IRIS 2019.

this version is missing the class IRISObject  ?

Question neel Je · Nov 4, 2020

I am trying to use IRIS Native API in .NET code I see following code snippet here https://docs.intersystems.com/irislatest/csp/docbook/DocBook.UI.Page.cl…

  IRISReference valueRef = new IRISReference(""); // set inital value to null string
  iris.ClassMethodString("%SomeClass","SomeMethod",valueRef);
  String myString = valueRef.value;               // get the method result

But IRISReference is not available as a type.

 What reference (dlls) do I need to add for that? I have InterSystems.Data.IRISClient.dll , what else do I need? what am I missing here?

Question Daniel Aguilar · Nov 4, 2020

Good Morning,

I have this question for a long time. When I make an insert by SQL from an external application in the fields of type %String, if they are empty, it writes the character $c(0) in the global.

Is there a way so that if an Insert is received in a field of type% String with null value instead of the $ c (0) it leaves it empty?:

I have the class defined like this:

Class User.MiClase Extends (% Persistent,% XML.Adaptor)

and the property like this:

Property myProperty As% String;

I have tried creating a trigger or setting default values but it doesn't work.

Is there an InterSystems supported dotnet core library or community contributed repo on the horizon?  At this time we are exploring installing the ODBC driver in our containers but would rather use more robust solution.

I'm building a .Net Core Gateway container. Here's the issue.

As a final step I'm building a .Net Core 2.1 library. It has a runnable dependency - .Net Gateway, which I need to start first.

However dotnet publish generates .runtimeconfig.json and .deps.json only for my library and not for my dependency (.Net Gateway).

Is there a way to force dotnet to generate and .deps.json for a dependency?

Hi There,

I have Microsoft Visual Studio Community 2019 installed and tried to setup the entity framework as per Using Entity Framework with InterSystems IRIS Data Platform (https://learning.intersystems.com/course/view.php?id=1046)  tutorial but I can't see the ISC data source in MS Visual Studio's Data source section. Does this mean that MS VS Community 2019 is not supported with the Entity Frmawork?
