I got this working fine... yikes.
Problem is openSSL.
Oddly, did not think it needed it on Linux but I was wrong.
I poked around cconnect.so and found out, it does!
And, Ubuntu comes with 3.x.x version. So of course it was going to fail.
So after downloading, compiling, and updating my LD_LIBRARY_PATH to also include the 1.0.2u binaries, it worked!
