Purpose of points?

I'm a huge fan of gamification, but so far I can't see any point in earning points. Will there be ranks and badges eventually?

And every time for any cases, it add only 1 point. And even every view of page, unique or not also give you points.

We are going to revamp the gamification but this is a lower priority than other initiatives. We may end up removing it until it's fully baked.

I thought the points were more to show off who was the heavy user/poster, with more points for more important contributions. Bragging rights, etc
