I worked through the Community for proposals to provide end users
in an easy way with data formatted as EXCEL sheet.

There is an great article Tips & Tricks - SQL to Excel

there's an important message embedded: "EXCEL can interpret HTML tables and display them as usual"

Nice!
But the result is on your server and you are left alone to get it out to your remote user somewhere.
Could be a subject to be solved using REST or WebServices

Hello! This article continues the article "Making Prometheus Monitoring for InterSystems Caché". We will take a look at one way of visualizing the results of the work of the ^mgstat tool. This tool provides the statistics of Caché performance, and specifically the number of calls for globals and routines (local and over ECP), the length of the write daemon’s queue, the number of blocks saved to the disk and read from it, amount of ECP traffic and more.

I'm breaking my head trying to figure how to solve this issue.

When using SQL, If the column (property) is populated with at least one value and is a %List, then I can check if it's $listvalid and $listlength(column) > 0.

Now let's suppose there's no data inserted for that column on next row.
I can't simply use $listvalid because $listvalid("") = 1. Yeah, empty values is a $list for Caché.

So my question is, how do I discover if the regarding column is indeed a %List independently of being empty or not when retrieving it's value via SQL?

I tried checking for the row metadata to discover any %List reference, but with no success.

Any ideas?

This is a translation of the following article. Thanks @Evgeny Shvarov  for the help in translation.

Let's assume that you wrote a program that shows "Hello World!", for example:

  write "Hello, World!"

The program works and everyone is happy.

With time, however, your program becomes more complex, gets more features and you eventually need to show the same string in different languages. Moreover you don't know the number and names of these languages.

The spoiler below contains a description of how the task of multi-language localization is solved in Caché.

So, one day you're working away at WidgetsDirect, the leading supplier of widget and widget accessories, when your boss asks you to develop the new customer facing portal to allow the client base to access the next generation of Widgets..... and he wants you to use Angular 1.x to read into the department's Caché server.

There's only one problem:  You've never used Angular, and don't know how to make it talk to Caché.

This guide is going to walk through the process of setting up a full Angular stack which communicates with a Caché backend using JSON over REST.

This is a parent page for the multipart series on creating a Material-Angular1x-REST-JSON-Caché application.  The current list of articles is

The Management Portal allows you to Export one or more globals to a file that you can then Import into that or another namespace.  However, the Management Portal can only be used to export entire globals.  For exporting selected nodes or subtrees within a global, a different utility is necessary.   This utility is the Export() classmethod in the %Library.Global class, which can export an entire global but also has the ability to export selected nodes or subtrees.

For example, consider this global named ^DATA:
^DATA(1)="ONE"
^DATA(1,2)="twelve"
^DATA(1,2,3)=123
^DATA(1,"two")="three"
^DATA(2)="TWO"
^DATA(2,"two")="2two"

Development productivity? Isn’t it kind of an oxymoron? Anyhow, we all dream a magic tool which does the tedious job of the software development and leave the intuitive or creative part on the developer. Atelier is the next generation tool of InterSystems aiming to boost the productivity of Caché/ Ensemble based software development. Atelier is based on the popular Eclipse IDE platform, which makes available the “infinite” pool of third party tools for Caché developers. Those tools can truly boost the productivity. This short article gives some examples how third party plug-ins can help developing for Caché. It is an absolute beginner’s guide, beginner to Eclipse but experienced to Caché.

In this article I would like to present the RESTForms project - generic REST API backend for modern web applications.

The idea behind the project is simple -after I wrote several REST APIs I realized that generally, REST API consists of two parts:

  • Work with persistent classes
  • Custom business logic

And, while you'll have to write your own custom business logic, RESTForms provides all things related to working with persistent classes right out of the box.
Use cases

  • You already have a data model in Caché and you want to expose some (or all) of the information in a form of REST API
  • You are developing a new Caché application and you want to provide a REST API
