Question Tim Stowe · May 15

I recently started using Cursor/VSCode with an IRIS container for development rather than Studio/Terminal.
I've noticed that whenever I use %G (so basically all the time), when I exit %G, the terminal window simply closes, rather than returning me to my usual namespace prompt.
%G also does not retain the command stack like it does in old school terminal, so I'm forced to constantly retype every global reference.
Anyone figured out a solution to this? It's a relatively minor problem in the grand scheme of things, but a time consuming and irritating one.

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if it is possible to use the InterSystems Server VSCode Extension to work in client side mode but importing locally the content of a project without having to choose the files manually.

It would be awesome to have all project-related assets synchronized in one go. Relying on InterSystems Projects (.prj files) would be convenient for several reasons:

  1. Projects bundle different file types (CLS, MAC, INT, CSP). Importing the project as a whole is much more efficient than picking individual files piece by piece.

When using VS code with multiple workspaces it requests "The extension 'InterSystems ObjectScript' wants to sign in using InterSystems Server Credentials.

Other than having multiple workspaces per environemnt (which never really works for me in principle as i end up code comparing in one manner or another) is there a way to only have intersystems log in to VS code whenever you open an actual workspace itself i.e. click on dev not on loading vscode.

This would also get around errors of "unauthenticated access rejected by" errors as VS code tries to log in without the password first.

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know how to export projects via VSC?

I opened the project through the "InterSystems Tools" plugin (command is "Edit Code in Project") and I can correctly work on it.

However, when I try using the "ObjectScript" plugin to export the project (right click on the project -> "Export Project Contents")

This message appears and it is not possible to export the project:

I've tried also to open a new window, then a folder and finally the project, but nothing changes.

This is an example of my workspace:

Anyone knows how to do it?

Thank you!

Hello everybody,

I would like to export project contents using Visual Studio Code, as well as I do with InterSystems Studio.

However, while attempting the export through the InterSystems extension I get the following error:

- There are no folders in the current workspace that code can be exported to.

These are the step to reproduce my error:

  1. Create and save a new VSCode workspace
  2. Open a local directory
  3. Go to the InterSystems extension
  4. Open "Projects" panel and right-click on the project you want to export
  5. Click on "Export Project Contents"

Anyone can help me solving this issue?

We are a group of interface analysts in a healthcare setting, running IRIS for Health 2024, having upgraded over time from an old ENSEMBLE environment. We have been working on a wish list of development goals, but are having trouble finding the correct, best practice method/path for getting to what we envision.

Current state: We run IRIS for Health on a Redhat 8 virtual machine. We run Interoperability productions (IE.cls) out of 6 namespaces. We have a dev/test box and a production box.

There are a select few in the group that have been using Github as a Local Client push to a Repository setup in GitHub. Questions were brought up today about the security, and possible issues when it comes to data being pushed in this method.

Looking over code we have noticed that there is Histogram data within some of the class files that could be considered a security issue. Does anyone else have concerns with the Histogram data being within the class files pushed up to github?

Hello

I'm using from visual code. My routines are server-side files. If I try to search patterns in files (e.g find all routines containing the string "version=3") , the search runs but didn't find anything. If I do the same search from the management portal, it finds all routines including this pattern with a good performance.

regards Matthias

InterSystems ObjectScript extension for VS Code, version 3.0.1

Am also asking this question on the extension's GitHub page: Request textDocument/documentSymbol failed. Error: name must not be falsy · intersystems-community/vscode-objectscript · Discussion #1530 - but suspect more eyes will see it here, which might help gather additional information.

Tried to compile some legacy ObjectScript code via Import/Compile in VS Code using the vscode-objectscript extension. Getting an error, and the content of the file is left changed on the filesystem simply by being compiled.

Hi

With this servers definition in VSCode:

"intersystems.servers": {
"iris4health202312_local": {
"webServer": {
"scheme": "http",
"host": "localhost",
"port": 52773
            },
"username": "_system"
        },
"iris4health20241_local": {
"webServer": {
"scheme": "http",
"host": "localhost",
"port": 80
            },
"username": "_system"
        }
    },

Access to 2023.1.2 works just fine, 2024.

Question Jochen Roese · Sep 15, 2025

Hi,

so we introduced GIT in our workflow and we exported all files with $SYSTEM.OBJ.ExportUDL

Everything fine so far. But for some reason the export adds an extra line for classes (Routines are OK as far as I can see):

On Serverside it isn't there

The Problem is now that when we checkout a branch and a class changed we automatically compile it from the repository to a namespace that is made for the developer. E.g. DEV_001, DEV_002 and so on.

When I open a class in VS Code and I want to save it I'm getting the following error : Non-JSON response to /api/atelier/v7/DEV/doc/API.Mollie.Execute.cls?ignoreConflict=0 request. Is the web server suppressing detailed errors?

Also I always get a popup when I open VS Code "The extension wants to sign in using InterSystems Server Credentials."

Question Stephane Devin · Jul 29, 2025

Hi,
I have a code that copy a method to another class for analysis purpose.

I also want this method to appear first in the source code to easily use it in VSCode with the classmethod debug button and not search it in the numerous method of the modified class.
Is there a way to do such a thing?
I tried the placeAfter keyword but I can't find a way to make it really work as I want. Is their other ways to control the order of methods?

Question Ricardo Alves dos Santos · May 29, 2025

Hello everyone,

I’m using VS Code with the InterSystems ObjectScript extension and I want to keep my local folder (client-side) as the “source of truth” while still using the built-in Server Source Control features (diff, stage, commit, etc.) against my IRIS/Ensemble instance.

So far:

  • I have a local Git repository with my .cls and .mac files.
  • I’ve configured "objectscript.serverSourceControl.respectEditableStatus": true and "objectscript.serverSourceControl.disableOtherActionTriggers": false in my .vscode/settings.json.

Question Colin Brough · Apr 30, 2025

We have classes in a Production environment that are causing us some issues - example attached.

When we export them from the production environment the XML contains a snippet like the following:

<UDLText name="T">

//Property any As list Of %XML.String(XMLNAME = "any", XMLPROJECTION = "ANY") [ SqlFieldName = _any ];

</UDLText>

When imported and compiled into an Ensemble instance this class works as expected.

When viewed/edited in a development environment we run into issues - the presentation is similar with both Studio and VS Code.

Windows 10/Windows Server 2016:

I am currently monitoring our license use with a new rest-service I am implementing when I noticed my licenses on my instance being consumed and never released by Visual Studio Code.

For this I restarted my Instance, watched the licenses for a while, which remained at 1 during idle (I am guessing my MMGT Portal session uses 1)
But when I connect to my Instance using Visual Studio Code (with my Instance setup in the extension already), suddenly 2 licenses are used.

I was using VSCode to edit a DTL because it seemed easier to copy/paste code from parts of the DTL I was editing. I tried to add <sql> tag and code to call a SELECT statement, but when I compiled I got the following error...

Question Colin Brough · Mar 3, 2025

The compile step in VS Code when using the InterSystems VS Code extensions appears to modify line endings in our class files when newly pulled from remote repo.

What steps can we take to stop this happening? / What settings can we modify?

We are doing local development with client side source control using git (BitBucket Cloud repository). We were previously using GitLab (locally hosted) and didn't have this issue. Developers are all on Windows machines, as are all the Ensemble instances. We believe we have autocrlf = true in all our local git configurations.
