This post is originally posted on GitHub.

This discussion is open to anyone who use or know about WebTerminal project. It is a result of a long story of the project development, testing and maintaining.

While WebTerminal greatly improves user experience by enhancing standard terminal with additional features, there are numerous issues (#77#92#81#87 and others) showing that it performs not as expected in some cases, and does not support some very basic things (like $ZA/$ZB variables).

Hi,

I have a problem with the recent update 4.9.4 of the WebTerminal.

This message appeared after the loading of the page :

New update is available. Click here to install it now. Changelist:
4.9.4: No longer require /terminal to be at the root of the URL

So I installed the new version. Unfortunatly, after refreshing the page, I have this message again and again :

WebTerminal lost connection with server (code 1006).
Attempting to restore session in 10 seconds...
Please, refresh the web page to start a new session.

If I open a terminal and type the following commands, sc is an error:

set validator = "sc = ##class(%Library.Numeric).IsValid(""BLAH"")"
set @validator
write sc

At the end, when I write sc I get:

0 L'BLAH9
             DOCXT010,#e^zIsValid+1^%Library.Numeric.1^1e^^^1

However, if I call the following class method using the arguments "%Library.Numeric" and "BLAH", sc is undefined

 ClassMethod testvalidator(class As %String, value As %String) As %Status
{
set validator = "sc = ##class("_class_").IsValid("""_value_""")"
write validator,!
set @validator
write sc,!

version cache for windows, 2017.2.1 build 801_3 - windows 10

I had this system set up for 3+ years now, and background tasks such as converting emails,  have always worked, suddenly it's stopped working and I've tracked it down to any network references.

reading the emails, I look for any attachment files, and save them to a network drive before processing them within a class method,

I've been testing it by sending exactly the same email repeatedly and checking the saving of the attached file in both the background and in the terminal.

Hello!

I am taking the 'Creating an InterSystems Class Definition' course, and the Exercices asks to open a Terminal from the Management Portal to create and interact with a new object. I didn't found how to acces tot the Terminal from the Management Portal, and the documentation I have seen doesn't help me... sad

In some moment I saw a video wich explains how to acces to the terminal, but I can't find it. ¿Can someone explains me how to find the Terminal acces?

Thank you!

HI,

I am a newbie so excuse my basic questions.

I have installed Caché on Mac Os High Sierra 10.13.6 and have started the ObjectScript tutorial but I cannot open Terminal in Caché.

The instructions provided on the tutorial don't appear to be for Mac OS as there is no cube icon:

n order to begin practicing using ObjectScript, you need to start the Terminal. Click the Caché cube iconin the task bar and select Terminal from the menu. This brings up the terminal window, and you can see from the prompt that we are in the USER namespace.

HI,

I have been using evaluation version of Cache 2017.2, it was working fine and I was using Cache studio, SMP  & Cache Terminal/console till yesterday.

Today, cache was in shutdown status, then I restarted.  But, Cache terminal is not working and showing as Access Denied while otherthings like studio and SMP is working as expected. I checked all security level services on SMP, all are fine and enabled.

Can anyone help me to diagnose the problem and make it working.

Thanks.

Hi folks!

When I launch IRIS as a docker container instance, e.g. like this one:

docker run --name iris-sql -d --publish 9091:1972 --publish 9092:52773 intersystemsdc/iris-community

And then try to connect to it e.g. via irissqlcli it says I need to change the password:

irissqlcli iris://_SYSTEM:SYS@localhost:9091/USER

Password change required

I know that I can open Management portal http://localhost:9092/csp/sys/UtilHome.csp and change password manually, but is there a programmatic way?

Say if I have a password in a file and I can just provide it to docker instance for the change?

Question Eduard Lebedyuk · Jul 6, 2018

Let's say I have this simple script  file try.script

write 1
write 0

I can execute it in a terminal (csession) by calling:

csession cache < try.script

And I get the following output:

%SYS>
1
%SYS>
0

However I want to use a try catch block in my script:

try {
write 1/0
catch {}
halt

But as script is executed line by line, it's interpreted like this:

%SYS>
TRY {
      ^
<SYNTAX>
%SYS>

WRITE 1/0
^
<DIVIDE>
%SYS>

CATCH {}
^
<SYNTAX>
%SYS>

I know that I can write it all in 1 line, but I'd rather not do that. Is there a way to feed multiline statement into Cache?

Hi, Community!

Is there an option to get an archived file of globals in one command. Say for:

Do $System.OBJ.Export("Class1*D.GBL,Class2*D.GBL","data_gbl.xml")

get something like:

Do $System.OBJ.Export("Data*D.GBL","data_gbl.gz","gzip")

And also to have the convenient one click way to  import it to the namespace via terminal or Control Panel?

If anyone already has this module, share please?

It would be very convenient for import/export/continuous integration purposes cause globals can be really heavy.

Hello everyone, I'm trying to run a cache terminal script from cmd/ batch.
I run it like this C:\MyCache\bin#cterm.exe C:\Users\Me\Desktop\cache_scrip.scr
The command opens a terminal, but nothing happens, no title present, no log file written, no output, it's just stucked.
Here is my script:

case match: off
title MyTitle
; wait for the terminal to initialize and ask for our identification
echo: on
wait for:Username
send: MeUser<CR>
wait for:Password
send: mepass<CR>
logfile: C:\Users\Me\Desktop\cache_script.

Question Raul Munoz · Apr 4, 2017

Hello,

I have been involved with using terminal scripts lately (I use GE Centricity Business), that usually do not go beyond 'send:' and 'wait for:' commands.  Notwithstanding, I have been stuck with the message boxes since the script recorder does not record over this whenever I need to click 'Yes' in a given message box prompt which aggressively stops my scripts/macros from continuing.  I know that this commands are labeled 'Extended Escape Sequences', but I have been looking all over at the Intersystems document repository with no luck in finding anything of the sort.

Question Robert Cemper · Sep 4, 2023

For my Embedded Python ONLY demo package I need some user input.
Similar to ObjectScript

read "say somthing",reply

I use the Python equivalent

reply = input("say something")

And this works excellent without problems  from Terminal or Doker console

BAD SURPRISE:
withWebTermnial ObjectSscript works fine, but embedded Python fails badly.

I do not care about line terminators without <CR>
but it is just impossible to receive any input.

This is no improvement. The content is missing !!!!

QUESTION to the experts.

I am trying to capture the write of a method to test the response in an unit test. I know everything works because one of my colleagues ran the code and did not froze on his machine.

I don't what is the cause of the freeze. I know that at line Use $io::("^"_$ZNAME) it stopes because i have put some write functions after every line in WriteCapture method and i only saw the first write function in terminal

I also used debug and in this case it didn't froze

PS: forgot to put the status in the XECUTE (vstrCommand , .

Question Paras Batheja · Aug 17, 2020

Hi Developers

Is there any way that we can pass the values to the read prompts via cache routine.

For example, we have a couple of reports/routine in our system which accepts some inputs and after taking the inputs it generates some data. Right now it has proper UI and where User enters the value and in routines we have Read statements which accepts those inputs for further processing.

Question Niklas Thilmont · Jul 30, 2021

Hey ISC Community!

For a small automation feature I would like to login to the IRIS shell non-interactively, skipping the whole username and password prompts, providing the credentials through other means. Something in the fashion of "iris session <instance-name> --user myuser --pass mypass" would be great, but the session tool itself doesn't seem to be capable of doing this.

Does anyone know a way to accomplish this? It need not be through "iris session", any way that can be automated would be fine. Disabling authentication for the terminal is not an option, though.
